Hello guys so I have been super busy, but this story has sort of erupted out of me.
Promises
Summary: It is easy to fall in love but far harder to keep every promise you make.
Two shot
PART I
Shaurya pushed her hair behind her ear and smiled at her.
"I promise you Home Executive, I will never leave you. I will only love you and You will always be happy with me He said, leaning towards her. Mehek smiled as his hands around her waist tightened.
"I love you Shaurya She said softly, making him smile. He pressed his forehead against her own. Mehek closed her eyes.

1 year later.
Mehek was tired she yawned as she sat Shaurya's bed. He was studying again. His handsome face, merrowed by a cute confused frown. She hugged his pillow, it smelled like his shampoo and sighed.
He turned and looked at her for a second, then stood up.
"Come I will take you home He said, picking his keys up. Mehek pouted glumly. She missed him so much. She had hardly seen him since his finals had started, and he always seemed to be studying. She was happy that he allowed her to be near him, while he studied so she never felt completely cut off from him.
He held out his hand for her, and half smiled as she held out her hands to be picked up.
"Carry me She said, he bent down to carry her and she smiled putting her hands down and stood up on her own.
"I was kidding She said, she wrapped her arms around his waist and hugged him.
"Good luck for tomorrow, you don't have to worry I will manage She whispered. He was writing his last paper.
"You think I will let my girlfriend go home on her own? He asked, his hands held her at her waist.
"Yes, because nothing will happen Mehek insisted.
"I will leave you home He insisted pushing her out his door. Mehek felt his fingers lace into her own, as he pulled her down stairs to the main door. His mother smiled at them, she had her feet up and was watching TV.
"Bye Mehek She said, Mehek smiled at her and frowned as Shaurya pushed her into his car.
"I wish we just lived together Mehek He said, suddenly. Mehek looked at him with wide eyes.
"Shaurya, you know how my parents are She said, He exhaled and touched his chin. It was something he always did when he was thinking.
Her family, was orthodox they did not believe girls should have boyfriends. They just went straight into arranged marriages. She had believed that until meeting him.

Mehek held the map and looked around. The buildings had different names.
"Why would they name you differently? She wondered.
"Are you a med student? A pretty girl asked her. Mehek shook her head. The thought was laughable with her grades.
"What's your major?
"Home economics Mehek answered, she heard a snort, a fair guy, wearing a white shirt and dark jeans came and placed his arm around the girl's shoulders.
"Why are you wasting your parent's money? He asked her, Mehek frowned. She knew a lot of people thought home economics was a waste of time, but she was not one of them.
"Ignore Shaurya, he thinks anything other than doing medicine is lower than him, you have to go down there, love She told her pointing to a narrow path. Mehek nodded and smiled at her, ignoring Shaurya.
"Thank you...
"Nikita and you are?
"Mehek Mehek took her extended hand. Shaurya raised a brow at her smile.
Mehek felt a weird flutter in her stomach. He was handsome. Very handsome.

"Oye Home Maker Executive Mehek was tired a week had passed since collage had started and she was just about to take off her apron, when she heard his voice. He was wearing a white lab coat, Mehek looked around her and found no one there. He was speaking to her. She pulled open the strings of her apron.
"Come here He said, Mehek walked towards him. She looked at him confused.
He got onto his knees suddenly. Mehek looked around again what was he doing?
"This is a dare, don't get the wrong idea! He said through clenched teeth.
"Ok
"Ask me what is love! Mehek frowned at his request.
"What is love? She repeated. He looked like he was having a hard time, saying whatever he had been dared too.
"Baby don't hurt me He said quickly. Mehek laughed. She let go off the apron. The soft sound surprised him and he stood up, his ears remained red.
"Who dared you? She asked picking up her apron and smiling. He frowned and looked off at, Nikita and another boy with her. They hid behind one of the pillars. Mehek waved at them and smiled.
"That chipkali Niki He said, annoyed.
Mehek placed the apron on a rack and picked up her books. He watched her.
"Smile again He said, Mehek looked up at him with wide eyes.
"What?
"Smile again He repeated. Mehek forced a wide smile, which looked more like a grimace. His frown deepened.
"I am going mad She heard him mutter, as he walked away.

4 months later.
Mehek pushed her hair behind her ear, they were having a bake sale.
Over the last few months, she had made friends and somewhat a life for herself at collage.
She saw Nikita and waved. Nikita waved back, but was busy talking to Vicky who was Shaurya's cousin she had met him through Nikita. He was studying accounting, while Nikita was becoming a nurse. She had learned a lot from them. About Shaurya, her stomach fluttered at the thought of him.
She had a crush on him. It was hard not to have one on him. He was handsome. Incredibly so. He was intelligent. Mehek should have expected him to come to her stall. But when he did just when she was thinking of him, her cheeks turned red.
He never called her, her name. He referred to her always as home maker girl or bambi(as in the reindeer), or whatever he could think of in the moment.
"You get marks for this? He asked her to pick up one of the cupcakes, she made and sniffing it as if it were laced with poison. Mehek rolled her eyes and took his hand and pushed it into his mouth.
He scrunched his face up and wiped his lips.
"I am not buying that
"You have to you ate it Mehek laughed. He took out a large note.
"I don't have change keep it Mehek took it and placed it in her till.
"Thank you for being my first customer She said, another student seeing him buy from her came in tow. Shaurya Khanna was infamous. A lot of people wanted to be like him. Mehek was sold out within an hour. Mehek saw him talking to Nikita and Vicky.
She now had enough change to give him back his change.
"Your change she said holding it out to him. He looked at the coins with distaste.
"I don't carry small change
"Oh Mehek said frowning. She would have to pay him in some other way.
"You sold out pretty fast Mehek Nikita said.
"Yeah I think seeing Shaurya buy from me caused it Mehek said smiling.
"Hmpf He snorted. Mehek looked at him, and for a second she saw him look back at her confused.
He cleared his throat and walked off.

3 days later.
"Where were you Home maker? Already tired of learning how to be a bride so you have decided to stay at home until you get married Shaurya called out to her, Mehek saw he was wearing his white lab coat and had some gloves on. What was he doing outside his lab, she wondered but said nothing. She had not been well for the past few days. Today one of her assignments were due, she came by to hand it in and go back home to rest. She felt slightly better but still a little weak.
She coughed.
"I wasn't well She told him, in and instant he took her wrist and to check her pulse. Mehek was taken aback by the suddenness, she looked at him though her lashes, sleepily. He touched her forehead. She felt her cheeks warm at the contact.
"You should be at home why are you here? He asked taking her towards the med block. Mehek tried to resist but she missed seeing him for the past three days and despite feeling sick was happy that she would be able to see him for a little bit today.
He ignored the nurse and went to the cupboard and pulled out some tablets. He held out some water and placed the tablets in her hand.
"Have these, lie down He said pulling the cover back. Mehek coughed and sighed.
"I have to go home She said.
"Just take them He insisted. Mehek took them and allowed him to cover her with an old blanket. He took of his gloves and looked at the nurse who was in the infirmary her brought her to.
"Give her 3 doses over the next 3 hours, she is not to leave until I am back He ordered. Mehek had never seen him in doctor mode. She sighed and tugged his sleeve. He looked at her strangely. Mehek felt her stomach flutter as his fingers grazed her cheek.
He took a step back and looked away.

"Wake up Mehek heard someone whisper to her she, looked up and saw Shaurya standing over her side.
"What time is it? She asked stretching, she felt much better her brain no longer felt foggy.
"Past 6 Mehek's eyes widened she picked up her phone and saw 30 miss calls.
"I have to go
"Come I will leave you, take these as I have written down you will be fine by tomorrow He handed her a packet. Mehek stepped on the end of her duppata and stumbled, his hands fell onto her waist to steady her Mehek looked up and then quickly away. He was so close to her. Her cheeks grew warmer than the sun, she moved away from him and looked at the floor.
"You cannot my parents would not let me come back to collage
"I will drop you a little away from your house He said, Mehek felt his hand go around her shoulders. She looked up and saw he was looking right back at her.
"I will manage
"I just finished 6 labs, I will not be cleaning wounds if you fall and get hurt He said, pulling her to his side and holding her firmly there. Mehek bit her lip and tried to think of anything else to stop the blush on her cheeks.
"Thank you Shaurya She said, he did not reply.

The drive home was awkward. He kept watching her with that weird expression by the end of it, Mehek was sure her cheeks were as red as the salwar suit she wore. She held her hands over them to hide them from him.
"Over time you will stop blushing around me He said, Mehek guided him to a road away from her house.
"What are you talking about? Mehek pretended not to know. He raised a brow.
"I should go. Thank you for all of this Mehek said, her hand touched the door handle, she felt him lean over her and stop her.
"I want to tell you something
"What?
His hand held her own, Mehek looked out the window. His thumb drew light circles her hand. Making her heart thunder against her chest.
"Soon not now He raised it to his lips and kissed it, Mehek pulled her hand away and got off the car and ran down the road.

Mehek walked into her cooking class. The door closed behind her and she felt him behind her.
"What are you doing? She asked him, he reached out and pulled her against him.
"I want you to be my girlfriend Home maker girl He said.

Now.
"Let's get married then Mehek laughed at his suggestion.
"I am serious He went to the side of the road.
"Shaurya please. No...
"What will happen next year? How will I see you doctors do not have time at all!
He was right it would break her heart not to be able to see him every day as she did because of collage.
"I need to think She said touching his cheek.
"Fine He said his hands were clenched.

Mehek paced outside, Shaurya's labs. It was almost time for his test to be finished.
"Mehek Sharma right Mehek turned and looked up, a tall boy with glasses looked at her curiously. He walked around her and frowned.
"Yes Mehek said.
"Shaurya Khanna's girlfriend?
"Yes
"Well I thought you would be and NRI type but you are so Indian He said reaching out and touching the end of her duppata. Mehek frowned and pulled it away from him.
"Well anyway, I am Ajay Verma He introduced, holding out his hand. Mehek looked away and smiled when she Shaurya coming out of the exam room. She went to him and hugged him.
"How was it? She asked.
"Ok He said, his eyes fell on Ajay and he frowned. He kept his hand on the small of her back and pushed her towards the doors.
"What did he want from you? He asked her.
"I don't know he was introducing himself Mehek said, taking Shaurya's hand into her own.
"Don't speak to him again He said tucking her into his side.
Mehek rolled her eyes.
"You two are so cute, you make me sick Nikita told them gagging as she came towards them, she had some books in her hands. Mehek pulled away from Shaurya and hugged her.
She blushed when, she let go and Shaurya pulled her back to his side.
"How was your test? She asked Shaurya, who shrugged.
"Mehek are your tests over?
"Yes, but we are having a competition thing
"What do you win? Nikita asked.
"It's a valentine's day vacation Mehek said pulling the flyer out of her bag.
Shaurya took it.
"Who are you taking? He asked looking at her suspiciously, Mehek laughed and pinched his cheek.
"I wanted to take part and give the tickets to my mom and dad She said, His shoulders relaxed.
"Cooking competition, home exec will definitely win He said kissing the top of her head. Mehek pushed him away.

Mehek had won just like Shaurya had said.
"A trip to goa Her mother looked at the tickets and smiled shyly at her father.
"But Mehek, it won't be safe for you to be here alone Her father said.
"I can go stay at Sonal's papa Sonal, was her neighbour/friend. Mehek felt her father's face relax and sighed.

Mehek texted Sonal.
Can I stay with you? -M

It was going to be dark soon. She closed the doors. If she locked them she would be fine, and stayed inside.
Mehek saw Shaurya, was phoning her.
"What is my love doing? He asked, Mehek smiled and went to her window and looked out into the lane.
"Nothing, I was going to watch a movie then go to sleep She said, she heard him sigh.
"Hmm? Where is that Sonal, when you two are together you two usually never sleep, usually you two would have prank called me already He said, Mehek laughed, whenever she tried to change her voice and prank Shaurya he always knew it was her.
"She is not home
"YOU are staying at home alone She could hear the worry in his voice.
"It will be fine
"No, it won't be fine
"How about I stay on the phone with you? Mehek asked.
"Yes, stay on the phone, and if someone comes there to kill you let me hear it from the comfort of my own home He said, angrily. Mehek bit her lip.
The line went dead and she stared at her phone wondering what had happened.

Mehek heard a knock on her door and went to peep by the curtain. Shaurya stood by her door, with a thick black coat on.
She quickly opened the door and let him inside.
"What are you doing here? If anyone saw you, my parents would kill me His gaze lowered over her oversized sleep shirt, mussed up hair and lingered on her bare legs. Mehek's heart felt as if it would burst out of her mouth.
He took her wrist and pulled her against him.
"Shaurya what are you doing, let me go Mehek said trying to pull away. He held her chin and forced her to look, into his eyes. Her cheeks warmed, with the intensity in which he was looking at her.
"Shaurya no Mehek said, pushing him away.
She turned around and he wrapped his arm around her waist holding her against his chest. Mehek tried to pull away.
He let go when he saw the fear in her eyes. His eyes grew angry.
"I am sorry Shaurya, I can't She said, looking at the floor. He pulled her close and kissed her head.
"I love you He said, Mehek smiled and saw that he was no longer angry.

Mehek placed a blanket on the couch. Shaurya pulled her into his lap.
"Come sleep here He said hugging her. Mehek relaxed and felt him pull the blanket over both, of them.
Mehek turned towards him and touched his cheek.
"Don't touch me too much, pagal ho jaoungi He said holding her hand still.

5 days later.
Mehek was walking with Shaurya in a mall, he held her hand.
"Let's get married He said.
"Shaurya...
"Mehek, I can't keep waiting at the end of the road to take you out for lunch. You either tell your parents I am your boyfriend. Or marry me? And come stay with me permanently
"My parents want me to finish my studies, if they know I have a boyfriend I won't be able leave my house at all Shaurya's hand tightened on hers.
"Let's get engaged then. Mehek I don't like being your dirty secret He said touching her cheek.
"Shaurya please try and understand...
Mehek saw her father coming out of shop and hid behind Shaurya.
"Papa is there She took his hand and ran in the opposite direction. Shaurya rolled his eyes and followed her as she hid in a corner. He blocked her. Her father walked passed them.
Mehek felt Shaurya's hand lower to her bottom, he pressed her against him.
"Don't take advantage of the situation She scolded him. He smirked.
"Tell your parents about us Mehek
"No, Shaurya, please
"When will you tell them Mehek? When your parents arrange your wedding with someone else?
"Shaurya I would never do that
"Then tell them He insisted.
"I am rich, I am going to be a doctor. Mehek your parents will not be unhappy with our relationship
"They don't look at money Shaurya
"Then...
"Fine I will tell them Mehek said. He kissed her forehead.
"Good. Don't be scared, I Shaurya Khanna would never let you go

"Mom there is something I want to tell you guys She said to them, blushing to the roots of her hair.
Her parents sat beside each other opposite her.
"What is it Mehek? Her mother asked looking worried.
"There is a boy at collage... Mehek started out and saw her father stand up.
"Is he worrying you. I will break both his legs
"No papa
"Oh?
"No there is this boy at collage. I love him. Mehek said, her eyes were trained on the wall behind her. You could hear a pin drop.
"What have you done Mehek? Did you let him touch you? Her mother asked her horrified.
"No...Yes not like that Mehek said shaking her head.
"I told you Meera, we should never have let her go to collage
"I did not think she would do something like this
"Mom, dad listen to me. The boy is good person. He wants to marry me Her father snorted.
"I was young once to Mehek, he is just saying that so he can take advantage of you
"He is not like that Mehek protested.
"You will not go to collage anymore, call Kanta Meera tell her that Ristha that was sent for Mehek we want to accept it now
"Papa, no I will die without him
"Take her phone away. Know this you will never see him again. I don't care who he is

1 week later.
Mehek stood at her window. Shaurya was standing at the end of the lane. She could see him, a tear ran down her cheek. Over the last week, her parents had declared she would marry someone else. Within in the next month. He looked at her confused.
Mehek picked up a note book on her table and wrote.
THEY WONT LET ME OUTSIDE
She wrote on it and held it up. His eyes narrowed. Mehek watched horrified as he walked towards her house.
She went to the door to try and hear what was happening.
"I am here for Mehek
"Who are you? Her father asked.
"I am her boyfriend. Why is she being kept like an animal in her room
"Oh you are that boy, You will never see my daughter again, get out and never show me your face again. If you come here again I will kill you
"Mehek where are you
"Here Mehek called out. She heard him come to her door.
"She is going to marry someone else, boy I am phoning the police today you will go to jail
Mehek heard the loud sound outside the door and it was flung open.
Mehek went straight into his arms. He held her.
"You think you scare me, I will take her away from you. In front of you
"Mehek come here girl you will not leave with this gunda kahika
Mehek felt, Shaurya's hand tighten on her hand.
"I am sorry papa, please forgive me She said, walking out with Shaurya.
"He will make you cry
"He won't
"You will regret this one day
"I won't
"You won't be happy
"I will Mehek said.
"If you leave this house Mehek, you can never come back you will be dead to us Mehek cried as her father held her wrist sharply making her cry out.
"Let her go, don't make me cross my limits Shaurya said, Mehek's mother took her by her shoulders away from them.
"You will never have my girl. On your face, I see that you are ill mannered and will only bring her misery
"I will take her with me.
"Shaurya let them calm down I will talk to them She said touching his arm. His expression grew cold.
"You don't want to leave
"No
"Pick now Mehek, its now or never me or them?
The police were at the door.
"Please papa no
"Arrest this jerk he is trying to kidnap my daughter
"No
The officer grabbed Shaurya. Who stared at her.
"I got in that last test I took was an entrance test. I am going to America to study. I want you to come with me
Now all his pushing made sense. He was worried about leaving her behind.
"Shaurya...
"She will not go with you get out
"Take her too her room
Mehek watched in slow motion as Shaurya was dragged out of her house by the police.

1 week later.
Mehek felt a hand grab her waist her back hit against a chest and familiar hand covered her mouth.
"Shh it's me
Mehek turned around and wrapped her hands around his neck. He kissed her shoulder.
"Come let's go He said opening her window. He had placed a ladder outside her window, Mehek looked at his hand.
"Shaurya, I love you She said, he kissed her forehead and pushed her towards the window.
"Wait She said, letting go of his hand. His face changed.
"What are you doing Mehek
"I love you, I will always love you. But if I left my parents...
He grabbed her waist, pulling her against him.
"I will never leave you. He said, Mehek tried to pull away but he forcefully pushed her out and like a rag doll carried her out of her house. Mehek was terrified her father would catch them and remained quiet.
"Shaurya no Mehek mummered trying to pull away he dragged her down her lane to his car.
"Tonight, we will marry. He said forcing her into his car. Mehek tried to open the door but he locked it and walked over to his side and opened it.
And then closed it again.
"Please Shaurya no
"I will never forgive you for choosing them over me. But I can never let you go He said holding her hand possessively. Mehek tried to explain but he did not want to listen to her.

Shaurya threw a red sari on her when she was let out of the car.
"Put it on or I will come put it on you He threatened. Mehek had never ever seen him as angry as today.
He forcefully married her in the end of it. Mehek could not remember much of the ceremony. All she remembered was feeling Shaurya's anger emanate from him.

He took her to his house that night.
"Mom is not here she went to London on business He said locking the door. He took her hand and took her to his room. She had been here a million times but never like this and never did she ever think in a million years he would have forced her to marry him the way he had.
"Who are you? She asked him quietly when he opened his door.
"I am your husband you will not leave this room until we leave for America is that understood. Mehek It was the first time he had ever used her name rather than calling her home exec.
He went out the door and locked it.
Mehek felt torn. Her parents were going to be devastated.
Shaurya was angry with her, she had never felt more alone before in her life.

1 week later.
He had bought her new clothing. And had one of the servant's pack everything. Mehek stood by his mother who touched her cheek.
"I tried speaking to your father Mehek, he is a hard man She knew how stubborn her father was, Shaurya's fingers held her wrist mechanically. He was still livid with her, she had grown used to his glaring the past week. And excepted nothing less.
"Let's go, good bye mother He told his mother hugging her.
"Be happy children

They arrived early the next day.
Shaurya went out to go visit the hospital he would be working in. Mehek laid down in the bedroom. He had hardly spoken to her since the wedding, she wiped her wet eyes when she heard the door open and went into the lounge.
He was carrying his laptop bag, He placed it on the sofa and watched her.
His eyes went to the set table.
"I ate out there is no need for that
Mehek's lips trembled but she turned before he saw the tear that slid down her cheek. He was angry. Very angry. She would win him over, she always did.
She went back into the room without eating. She had been waiting for him after all.

The next morning Mehek woke up and saw Shaurya was standing over her. She rubbed her eyes to ensure it was not a dream.
"What are you doing? She asked him. He looked at her blankly then at the window.
"I am going to work, you are not to leave this apartment. Without my permission.
"Where would I go, you have my passport and documents Shaurya
"I am reminding you not do anything stupid, don't make me more angry than I am
"Shaurya this is not you
"And you know who I am?
"Yes, you are not like this I am sorry about what happened back home
"You are sorry for taking the love and trust I had for you and choosing your parents who wanted to emotionally pressure you into leaving me. That does not cut it Mehek, I loved you more than anything in the world, when I would look at you and see you looking at me with those big nave brown eyes I wanted nothing more than to get lost in them, I wanted nothing more than to loose myself in the softness of your pretty skin. I fell in love with those smiles, that reminded me of sunshine and rainbows. How do you forgive someone for not loving you as much as you love them for not being able to risk everything for you?
"If you hate me so much why did you bring me here?
"Because I love you so much, that it feels like I would go insane at the thought of you being away from me. I married you because I love you so much, that now I can't let you go no matter how much I burn inside whenever I look at you He said shakily he walked to the door and left without saying another word. Mehek closed her eyes and tears fell down her cheeks. Her heart hurt so much.
He would forgive her. She would make sure of it.

Mehek made some tea and placed it on a tray, Shaurya was in his study. She decided she would try and speak to him. Today. She would try and explain to him that she had not chosen them over him rather she had wanted more time. She had wanted time for her parents to grow used to the idea that someone in the family would marry for love. To meet Shaurya and fall in love with him the way she had.
Shaurya saw her and his eyes narrowed.
"I am not in the mood please leave He said standing up.
"I made you some tea, you have not eaten anything... She said, he took the cup and flung it, Mehek gasped as the hot liquid touched her hand scalding her hand. She held her left hand over it and pretended nothing happened.
"If I want anything I will go out and get it. I will not eat or drink anything you make for me
Mehek went out the door, her hand shook. It hurt so much, yet she kept her tears away.

Mehek was picking up the glass, into a dustpan, when Shaurya dropped something next to her.
"What is it? She asked.
"Put that on your hand He said, Mehek put it on his table and continued cleaning, she heard him sigh in annoyance.
"I won't what do you care!
He grabbed her roughly forcing her to hold out her hand and put the burn cream on it.
"You will do as I say He said rubbing it gently on her hand. Mehek closed her eyes, she could smell, his body wash. And half wanted to press her face against his chest just so she could bask in it.
His gaze met her own, and she felt him lean towards her. Then he blinked looking away.
And let go of her hand.
