Mehek felt sick with tension the next morning when she woke up. Shaurya was dressing, she could see he was watching her from the mirror. She threw her pillow on him.
"I told you not to come here She said angrily. Getting up, she ignored, his expression seeing her wearing one of his shirts.
She closed her eyes mortified, why had she put it on last night, because she wanted his scent. The scent she loved so much so badly that she had done it. He threw the pillow back onto the bed and slowly walked towards her. Mehek looked away as his hand touched her cheek.
On his wrist, was the watch she had given him. She closed her eyes, as he leaned in.
Then she remembered he was with that lady yesterday. She pushed his hand away and went straight to the bathroom and shut the door. Leaving him standing there.

Mehek went into kitchen and saw, Shaurya drinking a cup of coffee. He was writing something in a file.
She ignored him and went on quietly about.

Mehek walked on the road, going nowhere really. Her head hurt, she had been out from the morning. Her chest hurt so much, she was sure her eyes were red now.
She sat at a bench, and curled into a ball.

"Mehek, would you give this to Shaurya Ajay said holding out a book to her.
"Why? She asked.
"He left it in class He said, Mehek nodded and took it, his hand brushed her own as he handed her the book.
"I will give it to him Mehek said, not wanting to disobey Shaurya.
"Thank you Mehek, can I talk to you a little? He asked, not wanting to be rude Mehek nodded.
"Uhm, there is this girl I like... He said, Mehek smiled instantly, he wanted help with love. She would help him of course.
"And you don't know what to do? She finished for him, as he looked like he was having trouble with what he was saying. He looked at her strangely as he always did.
"There is this girl, she's pretty, sweet and good and I really like her He said.
"Well than tell her silly, if you tell her sincerely she will not turn you down
"The thing is she would turn me down she has someone else
"Oh damn Mehek said frowning.
"Yeah he does not deserve her at all He told her.
"Wow does she have feelings for you?
"I would treat her far better than he did
"Well I don't know about this. It sounds hard.

"I am sorry Ajay, all I can say is try telling her, that's all you can do then at least you will know where you stand with her
"So I should tell her

"Mehek I want to tell you something you might not be ready for it but I will tell it you

"I am in love with you Mehek gasped. Within a second, Shaurya was there, he grabbed his collar and punched him.
Ajay staggered backwards. Mehek grabbed, Shaurya by his waist.
"I told you not to talk to him He said angrily.
"Mehek do you see him, do you see what he really is! Mehek bit her lip and tried to ignore Ajay.
"Shaurya calm down
"God if I see you near my girlfriend again I will kill you He took, Mehek's hand and pulled her away.

"Shaurya calm down Mehek said touching his shoulder, his eyes sparkled with burning anger.
"Calm down? Really Bambi calm down, some other asshole comes and says he loves you and I am supposed to be calm? He paced angrily. Mehek closed the classroom door and went to him, she wrapped her arms around him.
"Shaurya I love you only, you know that She told him rubbing his back until she felt him soften a little.
His came around her.
"Mehek if you don't want me in jail stay away from him
"Shaurya, breath Mehek said touching his cheek, he exhaled and closed his eyes pressing his forehead against her own.
Slowly his breathing steadied.

Several days later.
Mehek saw Shaurya walking with Niki and Vicky and went towards them.
Shaurya saw her and pulled her to his side.
"What are you doing for your birthday Khanna? Niki asked him.
"I don't know... Shaurya said looking at Mehek who looked at him innocently.
"Why don't we have a party? Vicky asked, he loved parties, Mehek half smiled at him.
Shaurya rolled his eyes.
"No party, Shaurya will lock Mehek in my room again Niki said winking at Mehek who blushed uncomfortably, who had told Niki that, she noticed the way Shaurya's lips turned she guessed it was him.
"Don't worry Niki we did not christen you bed, Mehek thinks it's a sin to sleep with people before marriage He said openly. Mehek elbowed him in his ribs hard, making him wince.
"Mehek I admire you, don't be embarrassed Niki said.
"God, you must have some really blue balls Vicky said wincing, Mehek blushed, and pulled away.
"I have class She said, ignoring the knowing looks, she got and went off.
She had decided to give him a watch she had seen in a vintage store. She had figured that all, of his friends would give him expensive things. Things he would expect, and she had nothing to give him. Nothing at all, perhaps one thing, her first kiss. She wondered how he would feel about it?
He would be happy, surely.
She opened her bag and touched the box with her finger. He would love it, she reassured herself.

Shaurya's birthday.
"You know Mehek, you are lucky that my parents are not here and Vicky is taking me out Niki said finishing up her makeup, Mehek wore a light pink dress that came to her knees. Her hair ran down her back like silky black curtain.
"You know you look illegal Niki said tapping her cheek.
"What...? Mehek blinked wide eyed at her.
"You look like an innocent baby Mehek looked back at her reflection, she looked like she usually did, just her cheeks were pinker than usual, because she excited it was going to be Shaurya's birthday soon.
"Is that a good thing or bad thing Niki?
"Well good, because your man likes it Niki laughed, bopping her nose.
"I will be going, my darling kiss kiss Niki said air kissing her.
"Thank you, Niki, Mehek said hugging her.
"Don't mention it, Shaurya is like a brother to me and you are practically my sister in law
Mehek smiled and let go of her.
"Niki what do you usually give Shaurya on his birthday?
"Well I got him you alone here, so I say I gave him the best gift Niki said, with a naughty smile.
"I got him something, I don't know if he will like it
"God Mehek, as long as it's from you Shaurya would treasure it

"Bambi, you know when Niki said you wanted to give me a surprise all alone, I could not believe it He said, Mehek smiled as he walked towards her, wearing a black leather jacket and black jeans. His hands were in his pockets.
Mehek walked towards him slowly holding a cake, she had baked that morning.
"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Shaurya happy birthday to you She sang, softly. He bent down and blew the candles out. Mehek handed him a knife with a blue ribbon tied to the end.
He cut a small slice and gave her bite, Mehek fed him back. She put the cake down. He reached out and pulled her against him.
"Wait She said, pushing his hands away he frowned.
"I thought because it was my birthday, I could push my luck a little He said reached out for her again, Mehek smacked his hand away.
"I want to give you your present first She said, pulling out the box. He took it from her fingers before she could say another word and opened it.
"I know it might not be much but... She said, a little worried as she could not understand his expression. He pulled it out of the box.
"I love it He said, taking out his fancy watch and putting it in his pocket.
"Put it on He said, Mehek smiled, and slowly put it on his hand, as soon as she was done he pulled her close.
"Hmm, thank you He said pressing his forehead against her own.
"Shaurya, I love you she told him, making him smile.
"I love you more
"I wanted to give you something else she whispered, shyly. She had never thought she would do this in her life, but she could not imagine anyone else besides. Shaurya being her first kiss. Her family was conservative.
It would go against everything she had been brought up to believe in but, Shaurya's happiness meant so much more to her.
"I want to give you my first kiss She said, his arm around her tightened.
He said nothing and tilted her face towards his.
His thumb ran over her full lower lip.
His lips were inches from her own, she closed her eyes. He kissed her gently. So gently almost as if she would break.
His tongue tongue ran over her lips, Mehek inhaled in she felt him enter, her mouth, it was so gentle and sweet. His mouth smelled like mint, and still was sweet because of the cake he had eaten.
Mehek was unsure how long it lasted, but when he pulled back his eyes were closed.
He pulled her into his arms and held her, almost crushingly.
"Is it just that or do I get more? he asked his hand lowering suggestively, Mehek pulled it up.
"Don't push your luck Doctor Khanna

NOW.
Mehek realised she was lost. When she walked down the same lane again.
She wanted to scream in frustration. She sat back down on the bench she had curled up upon and looked at her hands.
She half wondered if Shaurya was looking for her.
"Tum teek ho? A voice asked her, Mehek looked up and fair man with a beard stood in front of her, the fact that he spoke hindi, made her feel relieved.
"I am lost She told him.
"Do you know where you are staying? he asked her.
"Arena park She said, his eyes grew wide.
"How did you end up here on the other side of town?
"I was heartbroken
"Had a fight with your boyfriend?
"When he was my boyfriend he was much nicer, if I knew after we got married he will become such a demon it hurts so much... Mehek said, a tear falling down her cheek. She held her chest tapping it a few times.
"I know how to get rid of the pain He said, holding out his hand. Mehek looked at it.
She looked at him, her eyes narrowing, what if he was a crazy murderer?
"I am not crazy He told her after a minute.
"We will stay out with people around He said pointedly, Mehek noticed he was right there was a lot of people around. She allowed him to take her hand.

Her ears hurt, he handed her a glass of brown liquid that smelled bad.
"I watched tv enough to know this is alcohol Mehek said, scrunching her nose.
"It is the cure to all pain He told her, Mehek looked at, she had always noticed sad people always drank it.
She took a small sip, it was disturbingly bitter.
"Yuck She said.
"Drink it, what is your name?
"Mehek
"I am Sandeep He said shaking her hand, Mehek nodded. And finished the whole glass.

A few glasses later, Mehek grabbed Sandeep's hand.
"He used to wait outside my house for so long and now he won't even look at me She said crying.
"I think maybe we should call your husband now
"No don't call him, he doesn't care about me
"Why do you say that?
"He found another girl, I saw him She hiccupped, he patted her back.
"Where do you stay in Arena?
"Blightens Avenue Mehek said, taking another sip, Sandeep took the drink out of her hand.
"I think you have had enough He told her trying to help her up. Mehek stumbled into him he held her.
"Shaurya I miss you She cried out.
"Forgive me She said.

Mehek woke up against a warm chest. She blinked a little, her head hurt. Shaurya was holding her. She looked at him, he was holding her hand and sleeping peacefully next to her.
Mehek, pulled away from him, how did she end up back home.
She wondered.
She slowly pulled herself away from him.

Mehek was about to go out, when she felt a hand above her head close the door.
"Now why are you going out, to look for more trouble? He asked her, Mehek did not turn around. She just let go of the door handle.
"I was not looking for trouble
"Do you realise what could have happened to you last night? He asked her, Mehek exhaled.
"So, you were home yesterday She noticed there was flowers on the table, she side stepped him and picked them up.
"These were for me? She asked, he scratched his head.
"A patient gave me those... Mehek noticed her name on them with his hand writing.
"And they called you Mehek She said putting them down. He looked away.
"Don't change the topic. I was out of my mind yesterday looking for you Mehek, and you were out drinking with some gay man Mehek gulped she did not know Sandeep was gay, but judging from Shaurya's expression he knew full well.
"My wife will not go out drinking
"My husband should stay at home in the evenings
"I can't
"Then don't expect me to Mehek said going towards the door.
