I can keep gazing them here whereas in the show it was more cute kind of chemistry.

MH is very pretty but she looks disturbing when she cries.

The excuse Asher gave for Hareem and after that finally breaks down and confesses that he had never moved on over her..!! He is ready to forgive her dumping all his male ego. But Khirad is still dignified.. The fact which I love! But also a mention of the scene between Zarina and Sara.. Sara's breakdown was heart wrenching and emotionally charged!! The way she says.."I hate her!" made me cry.. She was the one who died expecting Asher to be hers one day.. If not in this lifetime then maybe in next! And Fareeda..😡😡 My words of disgust has seriously been lost for this woman!! Even today she was lying saying that Khirad wanted divorce. Seriously?? The woman who cud never love her own son, how can she be expected to care about sum1 else.?? Tomorrow episode seems to be one of the most awaiting one.. Asher's breakdown!! 😭😭

I know many think that i favor Asher but when you look at from his side then he was also the victim in his mother,s game where she really gave a damn about his own son,s life . And went on lying after one lie . And again today she did the same to save her own skin and to again oust Khirad from the house . Again she put seed of doubt in Asher,s mind . But Asher seems to be fighting his own battle when he is looking at Khirad . And seems to be confused . One on the staircase where he himself is analyzing Khirad then in the washroom where his inner conscious mocking him about loving Khirad .
And loved the Whole sequence where he is ready to accept her despite her being the tarnished woman and , for hareem sake then , in desperation accepts that he loves her . Loved Khirad who was silent most of the time and her eyes did the talking . Her silence more is killing Asher . And her proud look when she goes leaving Asher behind confuse .
Sara needed psychiatrist help when Farida shattered her .

And then for the next year we will have HS lookalike productions which will soon abandon the original path and drag on for 2 years, disgusting everyone. Production houses are typically ad-driven and if a formula works, there is no one better than us at killing the goose who laid the golden egg.
Don't have any faith from our television industry. But yes the film industry definitely will be benefited. I agree with you that this is actually a game-changer. The ad - revenues that Zee zindagi is presently commanding is growing. I believe that they want that there should be somethin with Fawad Khan running every week on television. They are not featuring Pak shows in the TRP so you cant measure it objectively but Zee Tv trp are thru the roof only because of HS, otherwise Colors with Salman Khan and Bigg Boss shld have been riding it out now.
I really think Pakistani directors and actors should work in India. Its impossible for the fledgling industry there to have production values and professionalism as is here. An actor's shelf0life is rather limited and they should seize the day now. The buzz around Ali Zafar's Kill Dil is great and he is the first to benefit by the interest in Pak actors here
On a related note FK should not go for Anil Kapoor's production house but work with the real biggies like Ali Zafar has done. they showcase things much better besides paying very well. FK should definitely move out of his comfort zone with Sonam Kapoor because they are not A-listers, either as producers or actors

aman-ki-asha,

As a followup to the message you sent - you could perhaps add this reason for the attraction of HS/ZGH as well ..

A common thread in both HS and ZGH is that both plays are essentially an examination of what makes "a wife" and what makes "a friend" (female friend of a male) - and by the way the wife wins in the end (which is affirming for a lot of women i.e. the reassurance that "all will be well" for wives).

Regarding your comment about Fawad Khan not working with Kapoors and instead work with others ..

The only problem I see with Fawad Khan is that he may lack athleticism - of the type that is now rampant among indian actors - and may have to be careful with his diabetes - so I doubt he will be making his body go through big transformations - or to be taking steroids etc.

I have not seen him in the other plays that people have mentioned here - but my guess is that his "area" really is the suit-wearing hero - and there may be few prototypes for that to compare with.

But I just had a thought - that if you combine Fawad Khan - with Sanam Saeed (in her comedian avatar - as in Black Fish, Chicago, Mamma Mia!) - and you could make something like a Get Smart (Anne Hathaway played the lady agent in that opposite the Maxwell Smart character). And going by the Chicago and Mamma Mia! musicals - Sanam is also quite athletic. Except in the movie Fawad's character would not be an idiot (as in Get Smart) - but competent - except he is wryly dismissive of Sanam - yet is upstaged by her competence.

Add in witty repartee between them - and have Fawad always being upstaged - but then doing some truly remarkable acts of heroism or whatever - could work but would require a smart script.

And may appeal to both women and men.

EDIT: ok, since people are saying they like Fawad "bawling" in front of mirror - then put in a scene (ala Indiana Jones) - where Fawad character thinks that Sanam Saeed character may have died - and show him crying in the bathroom stall - then coming looking all stoic (as if he didn't cry etc.) - will appeal to male audiences (i.e. macho who's actually like the guy watching the movie in the theater) ..

HUMSAFAR REWATCH PARTY : Episode 21

Posted by Sadaf On April - 2 - 2014

"Mein tumhein khud maaf kar raha hoon"

"aap ki iss ala zarfi ka shukriya...ab hum chalein ?"

Now that Hareem's operation is successful Asher realises that his wife and daughter may leave at any moment. He tries to connect with Khirad who cuts him off at every point because she has quite sensibly decided never to rely on this man again. The scene where Asher takes he hand and Khirad pulls it away, covering it with her duppattah stood out for me more than the later sequences of Asher sitting on the stairs or even of him crying in front of a mirror in the hospital washroom. It took a long time for someone as supposedly intelligent as Asher to finally question the events which led to his current state of misery. He just cannot reconcile the simple, honest girl he married or the dignified, honorable woman before him with the conniving woman he saw at Khizar's apartment. However that level of critical thinking doesn't last too long, one glimpse of Khizar and a few choice words from his mother set him straight back to square one.

When I first watched this episode I was quite literally hopping mad, "akhir Kiyun ?" I shouted at the TV screen. After watching countless drama serials and Bollywood movies I had been conditioned to expect reconciliation the moment The Man' realises his mistake. Most of them allowed for a few dialogues expressing some perfunctory doubts on the injured heroines part as in "Aap ney mujhe bohat satiya hay Murad/Abdul Wajahat" before she forgives and forgets. Although I have to give Asher full credit for being able to "forgive' his wife for what he thinks is full on adultery and admitting that despite that he still loves her; this time around I could not help feel disgust for his sheer arrogance in not doubting his version of events. Not once does he ask Khirad what her side of the story was except as a sneering taunt about what happened to her honesty?

Fawad and Mahirah were amazing in the sequence by the shore which required so many changes of mood and expression, all of which needed to look spontaneous. Asher swings from comand, to plea to anger and again to plea and again to anger and finally desperation as he tries to gather his scattered emotions. Endearing one minute and exasperating the next he began to sound like an unhappy little boy whose toy wouldn't work. Being a failed literary snob I would like to compare it to Darcy's initial proposal to Elizabeth Bennet in its passive aggressive, subtly insulting intensity and tone. Khirad was quite right in rejecting Asher while it did my feminist heart all kinds of good to see the look of control and power on Mahirah's face.

As usual we must spare a moment for Sara and her descent into a self-destructive spiral of spite and jealousy which will not allow her to live in a world where her wishes are not fulfilled. Again I wonder whether her Zarina did the right thing by never addressing how ridiculous Sara's assumed victimhood was; neither did she try to right the wrong she acknowledges she had a part in.

There are times when we have to support the better side of a person no matter how much we love them. The promos for the next episode pointed to another suicide attempt and this was not part of the novel. I still wonder if Humsafar would have been better if they had stuck to the original story for Sara.

'Woh Humsafar tha, magar ussey humnawai na thi'...sung by Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch, and words put together by Naseeb Turabi is captivating!

As the clock strikes eight in the evening, I surf past every other channel on my television set, to finally stop at Zindagi. As soon as the song by Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch starts playing, my living room witnesses pin drop silence, as my family gets glued on to their seats to watch 'Humsafar'. Subconsciously, I hum this song more than any movie song nowadays (and I hope this continues).

The Pakistani serial, which is now a super-hit in India, was first telecast in 2011. It garnered a large viewership back in Pakistan and was a trendsetter of sorts in the genre of drama.

The lead pair, Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan, has struck just the right chord. We as audiences have been finally gifted a new albeit quite believable on screen couple. Based on an eponymous novel written by Farhat Ishtiaq, 'Humsafar' certainly tops my bucket list of must-watch television shows.

I have to confess that the day it premired on Zindagi channel, I was not that interested. But as I pulled myself to see what the hullabaloo was about (and since Fawad Khan is adorable), I realised why people chose this over the others. There is a very fine line between realism and a shoddy presentation of reality and this serial proudly falls in the first category.

I have to say, the makers are focussed on story presentation, therefore the audience can relate with the struggles and emotional upheavals of the characters on screen. The progression of Khirad's (Mahira) character from being a coy and shy girl, who under a scheme of things is thrown out of her husband's house, to her being a hard-hitting, confident mother to a daughter, is extremely commendable.

I often find myself thinking about the characters and the turmoil which they go through subconsciously.

There are very few good television serials, which leave a lasting impression on the viewer's mind using the power of the medium"this one thankfully does that unfailingly in each of its episodes(at least for me). The subtle and enchanting background score makes it feel that the director has been influenced by world cinema and uses that knowledge to put such strong rhythms, reflecting the mood of each scene.

We are so used to watching the same old husband-wife saga, that when Ashar (Fawad) and Khirad's chemistry is depicted in a 'held back' and restrained style, it is quite refreshing. There is tension between the 'saas' and 'bahu' (like Indian soap dramas) but it doesn't go beyond words. The quintessential docile 'bahu' does not become a vamp in one day (with layers of make-up).

I love Mahira's costumes, by the way (the tone of white and black is completely in tune with the series).

Here, Khirad cries and you feel the pain. The realism is such, you possibly can't miss the emotion. I am actually dreading to even think that this beautiful story about relationships is going to end, as it is nearing its grand finale episode this week.

Somewhere I think, the void created by 'Humsafar' will take time to fill. I feel connected while watching this meaningful narrative unfold on the small screen, with performances by all the actors raising a toast to each other. I shall never refrain from recommending this television series to people who prefer watching acting prowess matched with a great story on the idiot box (pun intended).

For now, I am most hooked, booked and cooked by 'Humsafar'!

Humsafar is a superhit in india.. Bitch please now let me forget the thousand debates on why it deserves the success and take a breath of happiness... its so easy to love and crave for lovable and RIGHT characters onscreen, but its always a 360 degree manioulation with your heart when you know in your head that the character is supposedly wrong but your heart still cannot help but love him.. ASHER ASHER ASHER ASHER ASHER ASHER..
