Its strictly my personal opinion here, and I request not to bash me for this but I think all the violence happening on each side was simple dacoity done by those who just wanted to loot the vulnerable victims on either side and fill their pockets on the pretext and excuse of turmoiled political conditions.
I am an Indian, but I would feel as much for the pain of a Pakistani woman who suffered during partition as I would for an Indian woman. They suffered for no fault of their own and its quite natural for them to blame the other country for their sufferings, they are human after all who can forget all sense of judgement when the pain goes beyond tolerance.
I will definitely give this one a try and would recommend this to all my Indian buddies. Time heals everything and I feel bygones should be bygones and its time we move on. N by doing this I am not being a traitor, just a humanitarian!
P.S. I feel this is more inspired by 1973 B/W film Garm Hava featuring Balraj Sahani which showcased the confusion of a North Indian Muslim family on whether to stay back or move to Pakistan. Just the concept, not storyline!
And TM, if possible, please correct the title of the post. its Fawad Khan here šŸ˜‰

Just a clearing this up for you, this show is not inspired by any film but is actually based on a Pakistani novel (called "Bano") written by a women who had witnessed the partition first hand.

Thanks for the info!
Have never heard of that novel, maybe because it had some content apparently offensive to India
Will try giving it a read, if am able to order online.

this show was one of the best show i have ever seen . As a pakistani it was the first ever show in which i saw pakistan side story of partition . I have seen gadar and other indian films too depicting their stories . I think both sides got affected and i have respect for all thoes who lost thier lives during partitiion . I like dastaan because they have not only shown wat bano faced in india after partition . they have aslo showed that a hindu saves her from being raped .And they have alson gave us a lesson that bad ppl are everywhere . like when u will watch it u'll get to know that they have also shown some bad ppl from pakistan too who affects her life after she comes to pakistan ... There is a lesson for both sides in the story that wether its india or pakistan ... we have gained this freedom by giving so many sacrifices we shoudlnt let these sacrifices go waste . We should respect wat our ancestors did for us ... so i think being pakistani or indian u ppl will enjoy the show . Do give it a try .. its beautiful and yea ending is bit sad but i think it was appropriate . All stories don't have happy ending . But at the end it was realistic ,

Sanam Baloch is a fantastic actress.

At times I feel Humsafar and Zindagi G Hai are kind of overrated. Pakistan drama is more than just these new overarated ones. Have been watching Pak serials since last 25 years first in India and now on YT.

Dastaan is a love story set in the Pre Independece struggle in 1947. In my opinion one of the best dramas made in Pak. Watch it with an open mind. And remember it is made / based on the Pakistan point of view. There is no right or wrong its just a viewpoint.

We had a similar Urmila Matondkar movie in India..called Pinjar. Both the plots bear a striking similiarity.

Loved Fawad Khan and Sanam Baloch in this one...

I second you, well said.

Fawad Khan, hands down, has the best chemistry with Sanam Baloch.

I think in the end, it cannot be expected to show both sides considering that the Indian film industry always shows only one side of the story when they release movies based on the partition as well. Always keep an open mind. It helps to understand that both countries went through the same turmoils. However, there were times in this show where they showed some positives about Indians and some negatives about Pakistanis. You will know what I mean once you watch it.

@Bold! So true.
I like how there was subtle points in showing there there are always two sorts of people in every group. I dont want give away spoilers. But vaguely the point is, there were good indians and good Sikhs and then also the bad pakistanis.

Dastaan is my absolute all time favourite show. Fawad and Sanam together were fantastic there. I too feel this is one of the best out there.

the vm is beautiful
i've watched the 1st epi of Dastaan but could'nt continou because of time as i want to watch Sanam Saeed shows first 😳
but Dastaan is in my watchlist for sure
i think the best option to watch Dastaan is watch it without being an indian or pakistani just watch it as a girl as a human because the story is about a women life & this way it surely be justified

Hey the drama is indeed beautiful, if u are a sucker for intense and tragic love sagas , u will love it.. I loved it so much, every angle of the plotline, every actor were top notch. I would say that Fawad was classic, be it the style he adorned as Hassan, be it his performances as the die hard lover boy and then the tragic hero, or be it his chemistry with Sanam baloch, eevrything was so perfect. A special mention to his onscreen bonding and the chemistry with Mehreen Raheel and Saba qamar, both were excellent ..
Plotline here :-

Bano ( Sanam Baloch ) Has two bros, fahim and salim. Salim gets married with Haasan's ( Fawad) aunt Suraiyya who is almost the same age of Hassan and thus have more of a friendship kind of bonding. Hassan is immediately smitten by bano when he comes back from his college where he is taking engineering degree to attend the wedding. Bano and Hassan fall in love, and Hassan as he always confides in Suraiiya , tells her about the affair.

On the other hand Bano's father and Salim her brother are hardcore congress supporters whereas Hassan supports Muslim league, these two were the stronges political parties during that time when partition happened. Slowly partition comes near, and Bano and Hassan both supports muslim league, Bano and Hassan develops a very intense love between them, a point comes when Hassan passes engineering nd then gets engaged to bano, Suraiyya becomes pregnant. Fahim always loathed Hassan as he thought Hassan supports muslim league where he supported congress, but later after beating up hassan, he realises that he shouldn't have doen that and they patch up.

Hassan gets a job in rawal pindi, and he goes there to pursue taking his mother with him, the plan wa sthat he will come back after 2 months to marry bano. But as soon as he leaves, the riots take place, the hindu community conduct gencide and fatally rape women and kill any muslim they approach. Bano's whole family gets killed, she gets raped but she survives somehow and is taken as a captive by a sikh man who manipulates her to marry her. On the other hand months pass in pindi, Hassan after immense search does not find bano and he is left to believe that she died and later he starts living his life with her memories and with the grief of losing her.
Bano is terribly abused and molested by the sikh guy who married her forcefully, later she has a kid with him. she stays there for 5 years and hassan is trying to cope up with life and move on .

Bano somehow finds a way back to pakistan after in an accident the sikh guy who is her husband dies, whereas Hassan meets Rabiah the daughter of his mother's cousin and he slowly feels that she is the girl who can give him the love which he needed, he gets engaged to her and on the other hand Bano comes back to pakistan and Hassan is being informed. After learning the truth Hassan goes beserk and runs to bano, brings her back to him and is all broken to hera the abuse and trauma she has went thru. he immediately breaks off his engagement with Rabiah because he wants to dedicate his life in curing Bano and giving her all happiness. Hassan slowly makes Bano believe that she is in safe hands now, gives her a lot of tender and wants to marry her and accept her kid whereas Bano has no feelings anymore, she is like a dead soul and already mentally imbalanced at that point. Hassan's mother is against Hassan's decision, but he is firm. Later Rabiah comes to him and after a lot of arguements realises that Hassan loves bano a lot and he should get her, but Bano gets to knw that Hassan was actually engaged to Rabiah and so she leaves him . Hassan blames Rabiah and his mother for losing Bano again and he loses all his hope, he wants bano at any condition, on the other hand bano is very shocked and disheartened to see the condition of pakistan where women are still not treated in the right manner.
Later she gets a job and gives a message to hassan that how he must marry Rabiah otherwise he can never see her back, so Hassan agrees to marry Rabiah. Lastly , Rabiah gets to know about Bano's whereabouts on her wedding day and confronts bano that Hassan needs bano an dnot her, and bano should come back to him and marry him otherwise Hassan will never be happy in his life, Bano agrees. Bano goes to her office to finish her work before going to Hassan's place but there her boss attempts to rape her, and she loses her mental patience an dkills him brutally.
Bano comes to hassan in all that condition, and tells him how she killed the man and how she has taken revenge, Hassan is all shocked and believed that he lost his bano. At the end Bano is shown in the mental assylem/jail where Hassan and Rabiah goes to meet her everyday and they are married now..

it is one of the most amazing show i have seenšŸ‘šŸ˜³

it is tagic in most senses...but the initial happy moments make u skip a hearrt beatā˜ŗļø Hassan and Bnao are a delight...so many scenes are my fav...like the honeymoon discussion and Bano says "Tauba"šŸ¤—...the scene where she comes out without covering her head in front of Hassan and he is jus staring at herā¤ļø.."Bha vaai koi nahin " scene😳...the moments where they cry ur heart sweeps away with them...both are brilliant...espeially Fawad...he is AWESOME and even BalochšŸ‘...these two have a breathtaking chemistry ā˜ŗļøand this show does full justice to thier talents and chemistryā¤ļø...even though i ended up crying all the times i sat and wathced it...it is a MUST WATCHā¤ļø
