ZGH - editing error(s)?

In this post, I intend to post my observations of what I perceive as editing error(s) -- well, one error that I am posting about now -- in ZGH. There will always be a few, even in well-produced and directed shows. But, it gave me some bones to gnaw over while watching this show.

Junaid's advice to Zaroon and the scene at the breakfast table

In episode 23, we had two scenes featuring a tete-a-tete between Zaroon and his father.

In the first tete-a-tete, Junaid picks up from Zaroon's behaviour that something is amiss between him and Kashaf. Zaroon reveals to him that he has only recently found out that Osama had proposed to Kashaf before him. On being asked, Junaid tells him that, if he were in his place, he would consider himself to be a lucky man.

In the second tete-a-tete, Junaid starts the conversation by telling Zaroon that he is happy that "Sara apne ghar ki hone jaa rahi hai". Zaroon agrees and expresses his view that Sara has now matured. Zaroon's father then praises Kashaf as a good wife and advises Zaroon to not allow small issues to flare up. He then tells him that the next time, he comes home he should sport a smile on his face.

This is followed by the scene in which Zaroon decides against going out to lunch and the scenes of Sara's marriage.

Now, after Sara's marriage, we have a scene at the breakfast table on the day Zaroon was to leave for Islamabad. While Zaroon was at the table, Zaroon's father picks up on the nuances of Kashaf's and Zaroon's behaviour. As Zaroon leaves the table, he looks at his departing back with concern. This indicated that he would have followed him later and sat him down for a conversation.

Interestingly, Zaroon and his father were wearing the same clothes during the second tete-a-tete mentioned above and the breakfast table scene. Also, during the second tete-a-tete, Zaroon's father tells him that he should sport a smile the next time he comes home. This could indicate that Zaroon was about to leave home.

It led me to think that, from the point of view of scene continuity (both in terms of script and props/costumes), the second tete-a-tete was to have followed the scene at the breakfast table. At breakfast, Zaroon's father would have realised that the issue regarding Osama's proposal was still unresolved between Zaroon and Kashaf and therefore advised Zaroon to resolve the issue with Kashaf.

Of course, there is another observation which does not accord with this hypothesis. Starting the conversation in the second tete-a-tete, Zaroon's father says that he is happy that "Sara apne ghar ki hone jaa rahi hai", which indicates that the marriage is yet to take place. But, one could also construe that Sara would be leaving for the US in a while and settling there (one can assume that since Gufran and his parents are settled in the US, she too will be settling in the US).

Overall, from my point of view, the second tete-a-tete after the breakfast table conversation (as it appears to have been scripted) made for a better flow. Or am I just imagining an error, when there was none?

PS: Does anyone know how to post accented characters on IF?

There was another blooper I think. At the breakfast table Zaroon tells he is leaving that night for Islamabad. Kashaf tells Gazala she will go to her mom's place. Yet the same night Zaroon and Kashaf have a fight in their bedroom. I assumed then that Kashaf and Zaroon are back in Islamabad...yet later Kashaf is shown at her mother's house.

I understand what you are saying and all the points in both posts above make complete sense.
All editing and continuation bloopers.
There are many more that caught my attention and created a imbalance in the story for timeframes. I feel the the timeline of the serial was really screwed up.
These are some that were glaring:
1) If Murtuza married again because they only had daughters, then why is it that Hamad and Shenila are of the same age? He should have got married earliest during Rafiya's 3rd pg, if they knew it was a girl child. Of course, presuming that Hamad was their 1st born followed by the 2 sisters (whom we never saw and knew what kind of father Murtuza was to them)
2) Kashaf took 2 years to do MBA, and then about 3 years to do CSS (I think they showed like she took a break for a year to work and earn) Hamad had just finished matric (I'm thinking Gr 10 or 12? ) Shenila was going to do engineering when Kashaf was working.
When Kashaf got married Hamad was doing masters, Shenila was doing engineering... that timeline was so screwed up! I stopped thinking! 😆
3) When Farhan came to meet Sara and she kept him waiting, he asked Zaroon how college was going. Zaroon said it was very hectic. Excuse me, the 1st day of college happened after that!
4) Rafiya told Kashaf on the phone that Sidra was expecting. How? She had just gone back to her husband after God knows how many months. And then poof! Kashaf was pregnant?
5) While Kashaf and Zaroon were fighting about Osama's proposal, at the breakfast table he says that it was weeks since this was on. At Sara's wedding shopping discussion they were almost going to complete a year.
Kashaf got a transfer to the same city as Zaroon within a few weeks/months (or what?) after marriage. The day she reached his house, Zaroon was already upset about the Osama proposal. so...???

This I am not sure. Shanila has to be atleast a year older than Hamad.

This was screwed I guess. I didnt pay attention.

Hmm...I thought they meant Bachelors level? Btw Zaroon is older or Sara is older?

4) Rafiya told Kashaf on the phone that Sidra was expecting. How? She had just gone back to her husband after God knows how many months. And then poof! Kashaf was pregnant?

I think some time had passed. The incidents shown in the show isnt on a day to day basis but over a period of time. Like after marriage once Gazala and Kashaf are speaking and we get to know Kashaf and Zaroon come on weekends. Kashaf even says Zaroon got ACs fitted for her at Badin. Explains why he was running out of money if he was spending on commuting and ensuring conforts for Kashaf. All that couldnt have happenned in weeks.

5) While Kashaf and Zaroon were fighting about Osama's proposal, at the breakfast table he says that it was weeks since this was on. At Sara's wedding shopping discussion they were almost going to complete a year.

Kashaf got a transfer after months of marriage I think. Probably it took almost a year. Zaroon gets to know about the proposal just before Kashaf moves to Islamabad. Kashaf gets to know of her pregnancy after Sara's wedding. She probably conceived before she moved to Islamabad. It takes around 5-6 weeks for a woman to realize she is expecting.

RockChicGirl, initially, I thought that there was a blooper there too, especially in terms of Zaroon's returns.

But, after some pondering, I gave them the benefit of doubt.

At breakfast, Zaroon excuses himself from the table on the ground that he has to pack up as he has a flight later that night. When Gazala asks Kashaf if at least she would stay for a few days, Kashaf tells Gazala that she will be going to her mother's place the next day and return to Islamabad after a couple of days. And then, as you pointed out, Zaroon and Kashaf have a conversation in the bedroom later that night.

But, I later noticed that Zaroon was dressed in a formal shirt (as opposed to casuals which he usually sports at home). So, I assumed that he had a late night flight. If that was the case, the sequence of events is fine.

Brilliant observations, nevah_mind.

Re point 3 above, I had missed that completely!

I had some thoughts (perhaps explanations) too re the other questions pertaining to the timeline and the story. I will come back when I have gathered them together. :-)

TwilightHorizon, I agree that Indian dramas have several technical and editing flaws. I would add that we also have far less logic and sensibility in most of our dramas.
This is the reason that I prefaced my post with "There will always be a few (editing errors), even in well-produced and directed shows." Pick up any show or movie -- even those produced in the US or England -- and you will find that critics / viewers have pointed out several errors -- technical, factual or otherwise.

Now, the post was intended to point out certain errors that are obvious to a discerning viewer. I have to admit that I have noticed the one mentioned in my first post only because I have been tempted and induced to rewatch the series several times over.

ZGH is a very good drama, which leaves the viewer thinking (and not just nitpicking for flaws). However, were these issues addressed in the series -- of course, in hindsight, it is easier for us to point this out -- ZGH would have been a superlative drama. But, that said, if I were asked to name my top-favourite shows, I would, without hesitation, include ZGH in that list.
