Mandy, I have given this some thought and I feel that we are best off exactly as we are.

In the main Jodha Akbar Zee forum, no one will be interested in posts on the re-run episodes. In the Zee Anmol forum, standalone episodes will be lost in the clutter of threads on all sorts of serials all clubbed together.

So I would want to stay as we are, and try and build up some kind of steady readership of about 50 people.

And yes, as suggested by Donjas and as I had told Shreya, I will make slight changes and add things to my old posts before putting them up, as suggested by a second viewing. This would of course be for the posts after that for Episode 9.

My dear Donjas,

Thank you so very much, but then, as I have noted earlier, you are an unfailing morale booster for me! I was very pleased that you loved the Mirror of Erised parallel.

I agree with all your comments here, except that to my mind, Jodha looks much more beautiful in all those heavy outfits and jewellery. There was one golden yellow one which made her look like an ambulant sunflower.

Yes, of course, for my episode posts from No.10 onwards, I will make changes and add points as and when a second viewing makes them appropriate. I hope you will still like them!

Shyamala, your post is a treat. I know you will not make new posts for the episodes that you have already covered but some modification in them too will be interesting to see the change in perceptions from watching them then and now.

Now to the episodes, the positives-
1 The portrayal of Bairam Khan by Naved was spot on. He is one of those unsung heroes. His part ended before the serial got really popular. But in hindsight, we can see how brilliant an actor he is.

2 I always like you your psychological insights. That mirror interpretation was inspired.

3 The return of the fierce, angry at the world Jalal. How we have missed him.

4 Jodha looks very beautiful and graceful. There is freshness in the acting, which slogging for innumerable hours over the next two years will slightly erode.

@ Shyamala auntie, wonderful take on the first episode, absolutely delighted to have you back among us ! 👏 I confess you made me nostalgic.😳
I'm not watching the show in ZEE Anmol , I didn't even know about the repeat telecasting, but reading your post , aroused in me me very strong emotions and I'm rushing back to watch the 1st episode of JA .😳

I also confess that I watched the beginning episodes till Ganghour only for Paridhi's Jodha, Jalal used to actually repulse me with his overdone eye make up , which was no fault of his I admit , ( but it was very annoying for me for some reason ) and what I consider as very poor direction in his scenes ( again no fault of RT) , but I found Paridhi's Jodha very refreshingly beautiful n her very picture of classic sheen n elegance, even in those very bad costumes . I used to really love her bonding with Sujamal. Jalal started capturing my interest from Gangaur onwards. Classic royal Rajput look suits RT very much .
I agree with you in totally, on what you said about Naved Ji's Bairam Khan. Absolutely delightful to watch. He had natural creepiness. 😉
I'm going to read other reviews on this thread,n try o take part in discussion, though nowadays due to grilling hospital duties, I've very little free time.
I still remember my 1st comment in your thread, fiercely defending Jodha , and for which , though our views were of contradictory type, I received your compliments and eventually managed to secure your affection even. And I hope that tradition continues. Our views will always contradict to some extent , but that's exactly why I love reading your views, it's gives me a high to read opposite views, laid down so beautifully as yours , and contemplate over them n even some times, look at a thing from an altogether different perspective.
Hope you won't deprive me from the pleasure of reading your analyses . Forgive me for any typing errors, currently OL from mobile.
Take care of your health m'aam. 😳
with regards. Gargi.

In epi 2, I loved the scene when Jalal says that Amer is calling out to him n it was actually Jo who was on a cursing spree 😆, calling out for Jalal's head...
I liked the directorial "intended" pun here...😉

I wish the serial were retelecast after sometime so that we might have shaken off the buddhuram image by then and the 'i'm breathing b'cos of you' chants and the general bhajans wouldn't be bajaoing in our ears in the background.

Epi: 2 was good too. Mainavati was at her hyper best. 😆 Shaggu too was okay. ( again the image of the pumpkin looking shaggu image of laboni track came to my mind...) Shaggu was doing her best to shoot Hypervati's hypertension. 'Today she will hear about her future for the first time.'

In the leg cutting scene and the last one, i felt that Jalal was behaving cruelly to win the approval of Khan baba and to please him. Like a student who looks up to his teacher for a nod while reciting a poem. Cruelty was not his nature.

Begumsa was into naari shakthi since episode 2...😆...only that these naari shakthi dialogues were more appropriate than the mismatched stuff dished out to poor toddy.

Beautiful analysis of episode1 Shyamala aunty! thanks for the
PM.
What I liked the most about your take is your description of the Makbara scene. Just loved it! You made it sound so much more romantic and deep.
The actor playing BK is a good choice. The cold menacing drawl and the brooding intensity in his eyes is a deadly combination. He (BK)is definitely not someone to mess with. 🤢
I personally liked Jo's entry a lot. Loved the dash across the mahal to save the kabootar, but like many here I too am a little perplexed about how the heck did the thing fly away when it was falling down due to injury in the first place? 😲But that apart, the cross mahal run had a flourish and romance to it with the flying dupatta and all the ranis, behenas, daasis running behind her trying to intercept her high speed marathon.😆
Jodha looks so beautiful, pure and innocent but at the same time exudes confidence and high self esteem.
The fact that she has never even heard of Jalaluddin Mohammad up until the temple incident tells us how sheltered and protected her life has been thus far. I am already feeling sorry for her😭
The contrasts between Jodha and Jalal's lives has been portrayed very nicely. She growing up in the warm cocoon of her family never short of love and affection while he has had his hands stained by blood in battle at the tender age of 14, almost growing up on the battlefield with a father figure like BK.
And of course dear dear Jalal who looks so hot, sexy and handsome, enough to make all ladies from 18 to 88 melt.
His lonely canter/gallop across the battlefield without any protection was probably to highlight his bravery and fearlessness 😃
Last but not the least, the Jai kali aarthi. There is so much energy and passion in it. It is hard for me not to stand up, sway and sing along.😊😊
A really interesting episode.

Hello Shyamala, thanks for the pm. So glad to see that you are well enough to write again.
I had no intention of re watching all the previous episodes. However your lovely description of the "soul talk" sent me right back to my computer and I watched the beginning "soul talk" which was mesmerizing. Jalal's voice was amazingly tender. Sorry I could not muster enough interest to watch the rest of the episode because I really did not find the first week or so of JA that interesting. My interest really peaked after Jalal goes to Amer in disguise.

About the comment about Jodha and Jalal not being shown as soul mates in this show...I have to agree with both you and sp108. However the only time in this show where I felt they were soul mates was during their soul talks and the episode after Hassan's death.

Shyamala , you must go to Sikandra. Akbar's tomb exemplifies what he stood for: it is a wonderful amalgamation of Islamic, Hindu, and Buddhist design. In fact the multiple chattri's in the rear of his tomb resemble a fort in the Rajputana rather than a Mughal Emperor's tomb. It saddens me that more people visit Itmatudaulah's tomb due to its proximity to the Taj than the resting place of one of the greatest monarchs of India.

I would like to add a small snippet to what Ela said about MUZ tomb. It lies exactly 1km south-west of Akbar's tomb. What's interesting is that Nur Jehan also positioned her tomb exactly 1 km south west of Jehangir's tomb exactly like the location of MUZ's tomb w.r.t Akbar's tomb. These are the only two examples in Mughal architecture where the Emperor and his chief consort are buried in this relationship each other. The tombs were intended to be connected by gardens. Sadly the gardens around Nur Jehan's tomb have dissapeared due to encroachement and her tomb now lies in ruins😭. Muz tomb has a surviving garden, but her tomb was used as a printing press by British missionaries and has also it's former splendour😭

Roohon ki baatein: The voices were softer than at any other time in such scenes shown later, and Jalal's was almost unrecognizably gentle. His Jodha, without the Begum, pleased me inordinately, as also that, in a charming contrast with his irritating habit later, he does not add Jodha Begum in every sentence he utters, as if he was in danger of forgetting her name!😉

Now where do you suppose this scene in Hamara maqbara ,as Jodha puts it, is situated? The opening line, by Jalal, is Tum yahan kya kar rahi ho, Jodha?, and she responds Aapko dekhne aayi hoon! Which would put it at Sikandra, Akbar's mausoleum, which seems to be in remarkably good shape, and not in Jodha's 1 km or so away.

There is a lovely, throwaway line from Jalal next, Tum to khudh ko aaine mein dekh rahi ho! It has deep, romantic implications, for she has come to see him, but now she looks in her mirror. Where she sees, not herself, but him, for he is part of her, indeed more. He is woven into the warp and woof of her being, and as Harry Potter when he looks into the Mirror of Erised, Jodha looks into her aaina, and she sees her heart's deepest desire, Jalal. It is an intensely moving line, but I wonder how many who watched it really grasped its true significance.

shyamala, how beautifully you have written rooh ki baatien..the beauty of that scene is, even though it is not akbar's tomb from inside it looks like salim chishti's dargah as akbar's kabar is made of white marbel and majestically stands in the middle of the huge tomb, the beauty is that it is history and it happened app 450 years ago..here is a shahenshah and a km away is his wife resting who was also the mother of his heir, and as per many they did share a special bond...now that feel and that nostalgia is enough to make one have goose bumps!..and then on top of that rajat's romantic soft voice and when he says tum to aaine main khud ko dekh rahi ho and how beautifully you explained the depth of that line which was enough to move me to tears...

aaj tak koi bhi ishq ki gehraaiyon ko samajh nahin paya hai..jab koi insaan apne aap ko parm aatma ko samarpan kar deta hai to wo mastaana ho jaata hai aur issi deewangi ko ishq kehte hain...and here when jodha looks in the mirror she is not looking at herself she is looking at her param aatma, her owner to whom she has submitted herself...

As for this show - its one single saving grace is Rajat - at the very start EK has called the Mughals as paapis who need to be sudharoed by Begumsa - Someone shd tell EK and her avid viewers who swallowed every thing that she dished out as the gospel truth that there are no black and white in life however much many may want it - Life is a Rainbow with a multitude of colours of every hue - and Akbar had all the hues of all the colors in him like all other legends who came before and after him - that is why they are legends.
