Don’t know why but since the news of the show going off air was broadcasted; I feel claustrophobic and have to resort to my favorite love stories of all times and of course watching reruns of the episodes to heal myself. My favorite love story of all time has been Erich Segal’s Love Story. I know I know - tragedy.
But what can I say? His characters, Oliver and Jenny tolerate immense pain, then have to fight for their place in the world and the Barrett family and then when finally, everything seems to be alright Bam! Jenny has cancer and she eventually dies. The adversities, struggles and the wretchedness of it all, along with the unfairness are very pragmatic and do happen in the practical world.
But there are some truths that we need to face in life:
“The only constant thing in life is change”
“Nothing in life worthwhile will ever come easy and if it does, it will not stay with us”.
“Love is the strongest force in the world and even hate is born out of love.”
The romantic in me, often draws parallels to the iconic dialogue in Love story and use it to that exact point on the bus rooftop where Abir fell in love with Mishti. He recognized the emotion and named it later in the exhibition but there was an unidentified predominant emotion all along which is Love and to quote Segal:
Jenny challenges Ollie:
“You don’t know about falling off cliffs, Preppie, she said. You never fell off one in your goddamn life.”
“Yeah.” Ollie said recovering the power of speech. “when I met you.”
The POWER OF EMOTIONS is not analyzed in our daily life and we often just act impulsively without asking reasons why often.
The power of love in Mishti is attached to sacrifice, and integrity. She accepts that she wouldn’t be happy if it were not for Kuhu and Kunal
The power and need to protect was shown by Abir as he hugged Mishti and say “Tum Maa banne waali ho” – That was music to our ears (not analyzing how it happened)
The power of happiness and success as an emotion ruled Kunal as he ran forward and hugged Abir
Relief ruled Kuhu today and later a discontent, discord, and agitation at not realizing her childhood dreams. (Well portrayed by Kaveri Priyam)
However, the most powerful emotion in the whole world is LOVE. It creates and procreates and “WHERE THERE IS LOVE THERE WILL BE LIFE”
The life that is growing inside Mishti, unaware, to which she talks and says that the baby has is harbinger of love and has fixed problems with her sister. She acknowledges that Kuhu and Kunal have out of love done so much for the family for which she is eternally grateful. That is our Mishti.
She is flustered, cooking with Maasi, ate ice cream without minding the calories, vulnerable when she hugged Maasi in yesterday’s episode where the latter pacified her about Kuhu being safe; Ever since she left home after Meenu threatened her and Kuhu called her a bag of emotions when she bid goodbye, she has been all over the place, unsettled and is probably pregnant.
Today the symbolic, mindless running that Mishbir often do resulted in Abir catching her and picking her up and swinging her – a full circle, welcoming parenthood.
Life lesson:
When angry/ perturbed stay calm.
The equilibrium that Abir portrays is an illusion but he balances it out though he is disturbed with Kuhu’s irresponsible behavior.
With emotions we act impulsively often and err. We gain experiences and they are the best teachers, but often people like Meenu, Kuhu, do not learn. They make the same mistakes over and over again. These people will never be truly happy. The point where we let go off our perceptions, emotions and thoughts and truly become one with the one all pervading consciousness is where one attains the state of bliss in meditation.
Life lesson:
Life is a balance of holding on and letting go.
Some like Mishti and Abir do it on a regular basis because despite not liking surrogacy as a means they agreed. They have let love and experience guide them and have an inbuilt sense of bliss and acceptance no matter what the circumstances. Kuhu running away, Meenu’s demand etc.
Varsha is right and Meenu’s longing and greed will make her spin another yarn for Kuhu. Where her feeling of love was snatched from her by Kuhu, she should ponder and respect the love that has been snatched from Mishti so many times, under the Maheshwari Roof.
The times she said: Uss ghar mein Kuhu ki khushiyaan teray sacrifice par teeki hui hain. Kya tu itna nahin kar sakti Mishti…Tu badi hai apne choti behen ke liye itna nahin kar sakti?
Mishti knows the meaning of sacrifice; Kuhu doesn’t have an iota about sacrifice or responsibility. The zabardast surrogacy is a deal for Kunal’s security, property and their future. Once she realizes that with her modeling career, she could get money and fame, her brain worked faster than a jet.
She laments to Kunal about sacrificing a childhood career? It is a choice that you Kuhu, made when you signed up for Meenu’s deal – IT'S A TRADE OFF NOT A SACRIFICE AT ALL
Life lesson:
When under pressure do not make a decision.
Abir and Mishti long for a baby and they make the decision under pressure. They do not want to trouble Kuhu but she volunteered under pressure because she has not used her experiences as her guide. She wants to be in the spotlight and she is but does not want to take on the responsibility just the benefits that come with the spotlight. No pain No gain Kuhu.
Life Lesson:
Even when you receive, you give. Your greatness is not what you have its what you give.
Mishti did that with the kangan. She and Abir hugged Kuhu, fed her sweets and truly appreciated her, did that with kind words too. When Mishti accepted that surrogacy proposal, she did not sign any clauses like Meenu did. In other words,Kuhu could have backed out.
Kuhu on the other hand, always had a conditional clause for Mishti to every event in her life, demand for her wedding to Kunal, demand for the mandap, the magazine issue, and all along in every walk of her life and when she doesn’t get her way, her solution was to criticize and insult Mishti
Life Lesson:
“Kismet bhagwan likte hain insaan nahin and Bhagwan ke ghar mein der hai andher nahin.”
Mishti’s life has always been with conditions attached. Kuhu darling, welcome to Angry Chorni’s life, conditions attached
- The Mahaan surrogacy deal with conditions attached,
- Your deal of fame with the modeling agency conditions attached as No pregnancy clause
Ironic huh? Now what will you do being in the spotlight just like you wanted and challenged? Act responsibly like Mishti or throw caution away – time for you to grow up baby and do the right thing.
