Still not over how they wrote him off - Jo deserved better. I wish he got an ending like Cristina or Jackson where we see him doing something bigger and better. I also wish they built up to his leave rather than have it out of the blue. Sorry IF for bending your rules and talking about a different show lol but Merlex and Sherlock&Watson (all versions but especially the elementary version cause it had a male female lovely friendship) was what I wanted to recreate with Haider and Akshu! The comfort those characters shared without being romantically in love with each other or calling each other siblings directly.

"Kya Abhi, tumne kaha tha ki tum kuch teen dino ke vacation days le kar hume join karge aur ab ye?" Akshara wasn't the type to sit down and mope. Even as a child, she was sensible and accomodating for everything. She'd happily settle for Manish and Swarna in the audience at her recitals instead of Kartik and Sirat because Aarohi's science fair was the same day. Today, that sensibility took a back seat. With Abhi, she forgot to share as well as she used to. He was hers. But Dr. Abhimanyu Birla was another thing - he was everyone's, and she was still learning to give up her boyfriend to the surgeon in him.

"Akshu, I'm sorry par ek emergency case hospital mein aya hi and they need a cardiothoracic surgeon."

"Hospital mein aur kitne surgeons hai Abhi, tum hi kyun?"

"Kyunki woh meri patient hai Akshu aur woh mujhe trust karti hai. Main unka trust nahi tod sakta."

God Bless him, Kairav thought as he watched Abhimanyu convince his sister with the utmost patience, even on her whinest days.

"Aur Bhaiya, woh kyun nahi aa sakte? Kyunki Bade Papa ne unke ek zimedaari di hai. Hum dono humara kaam jaldi katam kar ke aa jayenge."

Haider's chirpy voice drowned out Akshara's groans as he barged into the room. "Akshu tum abhi bhi tayar nahi hui? Yaar jaldi karo."

Abhi could hear, what he assumed, was Haider in the background, shuffling through Akshara's suitcase. It should be me, Abhimanyu thought, as he often dreamt of such domesticity, such comfort, with Akshara.

"Yaar yeh pehlon, Amar bahot bechaan ho raha hai hiking ke liya so jaldi aao".

"Haider main phone pe hoon, tumhe dikh nahi raha?" She rebuked him.

"Kis ke saath?"

"Abhi aur Kairav Bhaiya"

"Humph, isse mein konsi badi baat hai. Kairav aur Abhimanyu toh hamesha hoti hai." Haider's slung an arm around Akshara's shoulder and entered the facetime camera's frame. "Hi, Kairav! Hi, Abhimanyu! Come soon; everyone's so excited to meet you. Come soon."

Before Kairav and Abhi could respond, Haider zoomed out of the tent. Abhimanyu couldn't decide whether he was relieved that Haider was gone or irked by Haider's lax attitude.

"Akshu, beta hume jaane hai, tum maaze karo. We'll all be reunited before you know it!" Kairav exclaimed.

Kairav left the two alone so they could say their goodbyes in peace. Knowing them, they'd be playing the "pehle tum phone rako" game because neither wants to leave the call.

...

"What's this yaar Akshu," Her friend Samantha, urf Sammy, whined. "Pure din tum itni badi bore thi yaar. Jaanti hoon tumhara saiyaan nahi aaya par dostoon ke liya kuch to fun kar leti."

This trip included five of Akshu's closest friends from college - Amar, Sammy, Manik, Nisha, and Haider. The first five days were dedicated to her friends according to the itinerary. Each got a particular day planned to satisfy their wishlist. Akshara reserved the sixth day for herself. So when Kairav and Abhimanyu arrived on the sixth day, they'd experience it with her.

Today was Amar's day with trekking. Instead of joining the trek with her gang, Akshara sulked around in her tent. Every few minutes, she'd add to her anxiety by checking her phone for a text or call from Abhimanyu. He hadn't called once.

"Rehne do, Sammy, mujhe nahi suna hai ye sab," Akshara said. Akshara wasn't in the mood for her friend's teasing, especially when she had nothing to show for her doting boyfriend. Abhi just vanished today, like Mr. India, so Akshara decided to do the same. She sealed herself off in the tent when her friends returned.

"Akshu, yaar bahar aa jaa," the girls implored from their spot outside. "Please, Akshu. Our clothes are in the tent, and we're sweaty from the hike. We need to change."

They suddenly stopped pleading to her to open the tent. Akshara grew antsy when she couldn't hear her friends anymore. Had they abandoned her too, she feared. She planned to come out eventually. She was starving. She couldn't cook in the wilderness for the life of her.

"Total main," rang a chorus.

"Out hoon."

Was that Haider? Akshara asked herself when a husky voice echoed throughout the area. She moved closer, holding her ear against the tent entrance, waiting to hear more.

"Total tu." Akshara knew those voices all too well: Amar and Manik. Then, Haider peeped in with an "out hoon" and took the lead.

He sung,

"Behne phir hai yahi keh do jo na kahi

Talli hoon kehta hoon dil ki mil gaake yoon"

She lifted the tent open slightly to get a peek, but that was enough for the girls to pull her. Akshara was amazed. Haider and the boys wore the silliest tophats and danced around the fire. Haider held a bottle of Limca to feign an inebriated state.

She wouldn't give in that easily. She eyed them suspiciously, with her arms crossed against her chest. The boys carried on, and the girls joined their entourage.

"Love me little little little

Amar handed her a Limca bottle and nudged her to dance.

Her phone rang, but before she could check who it was, Nisha stole her phone and threw it into the open tent. Haider blocked Akshara from acquiring it and sang,

"Kar le idhar ho tukur tukur tukur

Kya tu dekhe udhar," gesturing to the phone behind him.

Haider went on with his friends backing his vocals, hoping to bring her out of that glum mood before the surprise.

"Love me little little little

Ho kunjum"

When her friends put on their Abhimanyu masks, Akshara couldn't stifle her laugh anymore. On Haider's lean frame with a sparkling tophat, the sight of her, Dr. Abhimanyu Birla, was too amusing to behold.

Her angelic voice sounded through the forest.

"Ho sharabi tera paara chadha

Isak mein namak na yoon hi zayda badha

Jahaan tu wahin pe mere wala khada," motioning to the gold locket around her neck. Abhimanyu gifted it to her on their one-month anniversary. She could've never imagined her solemn Doctor-boyfriend to be such a romantic, even for a holiday that didn't exist. Since then, she has worn it around her neck at all times. She even inserted a picture of him on one side and her family on the other. Her two loves, she called them.

"Akal pe nazar pe teri taala pada

Mujhko tu chhod de

Aaja hosh mein bottle tod de

Bolti hoon bolti hoon."

Along with her pals, Akshara danced and piped in for the song's last chorus.

So lost in their merriness, Akshara didn't notice their arrival until she backed into Abhimanyu's hard chest.

"Abhi, she shrieked as she jumped into his arms, like a sloth to a tree. "Tum aa gaye, I knew it! Dekha Nishu! Maine kaha tha na mera hero mujhe kabhi nahi disappoint karega."

Her friends giggled at her enthusiasm.

Unable to bear their PDA anymore, Kairav razzed, "main bhi yahaan ho, Akshu. Mere aane par itna excitement toh kabhi nahi dikhaya."

"Sorry Bhaiya," she reddened as she came off Abhimanyu. She was about to hug her brother when Haider reached first.

"Rehne do, Kairav," Haider said, greeting his friend with their special handshake. "Akshu ko humari kya fikar. Main jo itni derr se bandaron jaise nach raha tha, usne tab toh bhao nahi diya, ab kya karegi."

Akshara rolled her eyes. "Shut up, Haider."

"Main sahi toh keh raha hoon. Akshu ko humare yahan hone se koi farak nahi padta kyunki ab jo hai, woh sirf Abhimanyu hain."

"Tumhari zuban asi hi chalti rahi toh, toh main-" Akshara stuttered.

"toh tum kya?" Haider challenged.

"Toh tum meri shaadi mein sahmil hi nahi honge." She declared with a huff and puff.

Kairav loved to watch Akshara like this. Before Abhimanyu came, she only exerted such haq and childish demands on Haider because she surrendered her sisterly rights to Aarohi. Now, she has two remarkable men in her life and her brothers.

"Really?"

"Haan!" She stomped her feet.

"Ms. Akshara Goenka, main tumhari shaadi pe aaonga bhi, Abhimanyu se nekh bhi loonga-"

"Par nekh to saaliyan leti hai, na?" Manik's question burst Haider's stern bubble and earned himself a glare.

"Aur tumhari vidaai pe nachonga gha bhi," he insisted.

It was a dramatic showdown until Kairav enveloped the two in a warm brotherly hug.

"Kya hua, Kairav?" Haider asked.

"Tum dono kabhi nahi sudronge," Kairav responded.

When the hug was over, Kairav recounted a story from their childhood. "When they were little, Akshu would talk Haider's ears off about her grand destination wedding: 'main ye karongi, main woh karongi, Aaru yeh pehnegi, tumhe uske joote chupane mein madat karni hogi, etcetera etcetera." Kairav imitated Akshara's high-pitched and animatedly voice. "To which Haider would say," Kairav coughed before emitting a gruff voice, "tumhe jo karna hai kar lena, main toh nahi aaonga."

While everyone laughed at Kairav's mimcry, Abhimanyu dreamt of the wedding Akshara proposed and how he'd put every effort into fulfilling her childhood fantasy.

"Aur ab dekho," Kairav pointed to the two at his sides, "aaj bhi wohi jagra par sides badle gayi." Haider scratched his forehead and Akshara avoided everyone's eyes until they joined in on the giggles.

After they got Abhimanyu and Kairav settled in their tanks, the gang roasted smores around the camp and shared some stories. Akshara didn't mind that most of the stories were at her expense, like when Akshara accidentally spat out her smoothie on their principal's shirt because her friends and family were there.

'Just as I wanted,' Akshara thought as she snuggled into Abhimanyu's arms. 'Everyone together and happy. Tomorrow is my day, and they're finally here to live it.'

One or two more updates for this Rishikesh series left. This one was really tricky for me to write because of the different voices singing the song. I tried to make it as clear as possible but let me know so maybe I can add a legend or something.
