Hey dear...yes...Sameer indeed took long to realize his feelings n confess them to her...and when he wanted to...destiny intervened! Stay tuned to see how this works out for them both! 😊

Can't even guess whats going to hsppen next. Are you going to bring in a leap? Don't leave us like this. Never expected that Sameer has go through nanu's death all alone without Naina by his side. It's heartbreaking yaar. I hope you are going to atleast give a glimpse of naina in the next update. This update was heartwrenching man emotions on point i don't even have words to describe. Hatts off for taking the risk of giving this twist in the story. Can't wait for the next one.

Hey Shravya dear!!! So so sorry...I'm terribly late in responding to your comment!
I know it is a torturous separation yaar...but this has been a part of my story outline since the onset! Though I hadn't planned on elaborating on Sameer woes n misery...here I am doing that 😆 I didn't want to put Nanu's death n Naina's marriage news in the same part, but then I didn't want to pause at another cliffhanger...n already this update was long due! I'll try to give a glimpse if that is what you want! But I hope you'll be willing to wait a bit till their paths cross as I actually intend them to! 😳😳 Thanks yaar...yes, it is difficult to risk the reader's mood with such twists in the story, but I decided to go ahead with it rather than morph the story I had in mind!
Love you for the comments dear!

When you told me to remember the title of the story is Expectedly Unexpected in the previous update comments, I never ever even in my dreams thought such a twist in the tale 🤢
Aww dear...sorry!! Sameer style mein! But this is the twist I had in mind. I know the readers of this story expected a joyous confession after the realization, but...😆

Coming to the update: The title reminded me of There are those twists of fate where everything changes in the blink of an eye or shift of a season.
Very true! Sometimes, we have to agree that there is some power which controls our lives. Some things are never in our hands.

Fate controls who walks into your life, but you decide who you let walk out, who you let stay and who you refuse to let go. Had Sameer realized these words he would never ever have let Naina walk out.
True! Sameer realized it a bit late! But then, perhaps that was how it was supposed to be! I hope now people would know why Sameer was a dimwit in realizing he loves Naina. So that he could be a little late and this twist can come in! 😆

Sameer was numb and it became worse with the loss of Nanu. I could feel Sameer's grief, the pain to think that Nanu and Naina, the two most important souls in his life could be gone in a second.
I'm glad I could portray it well dear!
How could I not notice the highlight: warmth of relationships, two people who were nowhere around Sameer for a long time and Mundit, turn into his support system. Friendship is not about being inseparable, it is about being there when you need them the most. Kuddos girl👏
😊 Mundit and Preeti are two of my most favourite characters in the show after Sameer n Naina. Though I've given much weightage to Preeti here...I made sure Mundit would come into the picture on and off!
Sameer's mind is writhing in the feelings of loss and grief. It has hit him so hard that he feel hopeless and weak.

He craves for her and all he got in return is the news of her wedding. He faces the greatest pain of grieving over the loss of someone who was his world.
😕 Yaar...tumhare comments padh ke hi main udaas ho rahi hun! 😕 Sorry I put you guys through this!

My mind doesn't accept that Naina has married someone else and I believe there is lot of underlying story which you will be unfolding in the next updates.
Yes...there is a lot to it than meets the eye! But let's see how their paths cross again! 😊

Sur, I would say this update had all the elements to create the build up and anxiety levels. It is perfect by all means.⭐️
Aww! Thanks love! You made my day!

Sameer and Naina have touched each other's soul and True Love never ends!!!!
Beautiful! That's true! True love never ends...😳
Eager to read the next 😊

Love ❤️

Hey guys!
I'm out with the next part of this story! I'm putting in a warning here too...the part is again not cheerful...but I hope you trust me that it is the demand of the story I had in mind.
However, I've interspersed the part with some flashback moments in Italics for those who would prefer to read some adult romance.

Disclaimer: Parts in Italics tend to become erotic. Hence read at your own discretion.

Well for those who do enjoy reading 18+ content, this is the first time, I've ventured slightly into the explicit domain.

Dedicated to all lovers of 18+ on this forum!

Chapter 17: The Echoes of the Past

Sameer jerked out of his reverie as the taxi screeched to a halt. He peered out of the window at his destination- the magnificent white edifice, which he'd called his home since the time his mother had abandoned him. The taxi driver told the bill, and Sameer, as if in a daze, took out his wallet and handed him a five hundred rupee note as he got out of the car. And then without waiting for change, he strode inside the house, oblivious of the taxi driver calling him back.

As he opened the door of the house which'd always instilled hope in him, Sameer half-expected to see his Nanu seated on the big armchair as usual, listening to some ghazals or the classics of the 60s. He wanted his Nanu to embrace him, for tonight, nothing less than that would stop him from crumbling to the floor in a heap. He needed the solace his words provided. Maybe Nanu could come up with an idea to end his misery or maybe get Naina out of that marriage. Or perhaps, he could somehow ring up a few important people and find out that Naina wasn't married at all. It'd been a huge misunderstanding on everyone's part.

"Nanu...? Sameer squeaked, and his voice echoed across the empty hall. No one answered. Nanu was gone forever. The one person who had loved and trusted him unconditionally! Nanu had always believed in him- believed that he would come around one day. And this last bit of love was snatched away from him. Sameer was shattered- shattered by Naina's betrayal and by Nanu's demise. There was nothing to look forward to in life now. He slumped down against the big French doors overlooking the garden.

Did she have no feelings whatsoever for him? How could she marry someone else? And even if she had not loved him, had never loved him, why couldn't she have told him that she was getting married? She had tried to, hadn't she? But then, she'd only told him about Arvind as a prospective groom, not that she was getting hitched to him so soon. Nothing was fixed at that time. He was sure she'd said so. Naina knew him better than this, didn't she? He always snapped at her or anyone for that matter, whenever he was angry and always turned up to apologize later. But you hadn't that night Sameer! You hadn't gone after her.

He'd been late in deciphering his own feelings- late not by a day or two. He was late by years. And this time, Naina hadn't forgiven him. But his anger- wasn't it a clue that he had not liked the fact that she was thinking of marrying someone else? She was smart, wasn't she? Wouldn't she have guessed that he was in love with her, and couldn't bear to even hear another man's name attached to her? Was it her revenge on him for behaving so badly? Or maybe she knew. All along! She knew, but couldn't reciprocate and that's why she chose to break all ties with him and marry that Arvind.

This couldn't be happening. God cannot be so cruel. What has he done to deserve all the misfortune in the world? Everyone says, Sameer you are lucky- you are so rich, you are so handsome, you have a way with girls, you are an excellent musician. But now that he came to think of it, he was the most unlucky soul alive on this earth. Howmuchever he craved love, God never seem to think he was deserving enough. He gave him a rogue, a philanderer as a father who deserted him when he was too young to realize the importance of a dad in life. And he'd done it for a woman! Abandoned his only child! All for a woman? How perverse, how evil that female would have been who stole his dad from him! And then his own mother- she too had betrayed him, hadn't she? For a better life! For stability and support, she'd decided her five year old son did not need her. And now that he was getting used to love again, feeling the warmth of someone's care again, Naina too decided to ditch him. For he wasn't good enough. Had never been good enough. A failure in life- that's what he was!

***

"Bhai chod na...ladkiyaan to aati jaati rahengi! Ek ke piche tu kyun gham kha raha hai..wo bhi wo maniben...saali...chod use...uska to naam bhi nahi lena hai mujhe! Tu sher hai bhai...tu shikari hai...tu jis ladki ki taraf aankh utha ke dekh lega na...wo tere kadmon mein gir jayegi...abey kya kami hai tujhmein! Kaun si ladki nahi chahegi tujhe apna boyfriend banana aur tere se shaadi karne ke liye to na swayamvar rachana padega! Sameer sun na! But Munna and Pandit's words fell on deaf ears as Sameer gazed at wall in front of his bed, unable to absorb sound or sight or food, or even sleep. It had been two days since he'd eaten. However hard Munna and Pandit had tried to console him, to prod him to move on, it felt as if Sameer had lost himself in some other land, and none of their antics were able to retrieve him from there.

As the clock struck hour upon hour, Sameer stood still. The house was eerily silent. Munna and Pandit had left to their homes, after Ramdhari promised to take care of Sameer. Vishakha's phone calls went unanswered for long and then ceased. She must have discussed him with Ramdhari or Munna and Pandit. But he no longer cared. He did not need his mother. Not now. After all these years. And then as if Sameer decided something, he got up and put on his jacket, ready for a stroll. He lumbered out of the hallway, still in some other world as he stepped out of the house. He walked and walked. Aimlessly. He didn't know how many minutes swept by. Even if he'd known, it wouldn't have mattered. For nothing mattered now.

As he strode outside along a pavement, his eyes fell upon a blurred view of a shop to his right. He tried to focus on the name, "Navkar Medicals. And then his feet took him across the street to the shop and he found himself asking for some sedatives. These might help him sleep. The pharmacist handed out three bottles and asked which one he preferred. He heard a voice, somewhat like his own, asking, "which one is the most effective? And then he picked up the one the shopkeeper handed out. He paid for the pills, again unaware that he had to pick up the remaining change.

In something short of a miracle considering his state, Sameer found his way back home. The house was now pitch dark. Ramdhari must've retired for the night, trying umpteen times to feed him. Sameer entered his room quietly and turned on the lights, and waited, as if unsure of what to do next. A strong gust of wind whistled through the windows, and as the curtains billowed, a paper calendar of Maheshwari Industries hanging on the wall besides, rocked in rhythm. August had begun he saw. So soon! And then his eyes landed on one date, blaring out at him in red: 20th of August. Memories of that weekend gushed through him.

Sameer drew open his drawer and extracted a photograph that he'd clicked for her last year. He propped himself on the floor, his back resting against the bed, and stared at the beautiful woman, dressed in that royal blue churidar embroidered with golden threads. He remembered that day vividly.

They'd gone out for a long drive on the weekend after exams- deciding they would make the most of it before they had to head to their respective homes for the upcoming mid-term break. Sameer had specially borrowed one of his friend's car for the weekend, on the pretext of visiting some relatives in Lonavala rather than romancing a girl in his class.

Her hair was dancing as usual in the breeze- more so when she peeked her head out of the windows to take in the fresh air, or spread her palms out to experience the slight sprays of rain, or to catch sight of sodden lush greenery all around the meandering roadways. The antique style, golden earrings dangling from her ears, swayed to and fro everytime she turned to point out a beautiful view to him.

She'd closed her eyes in between as she inhaled the scent of rain, mingled in the breeze whizzing through the car windows. His eyes had been helplessly drawn more than once to the contours of the impeccably applied eye liner on her upper lids. And as she opened them again and her eyes widened in alarm to see his focus on her rather than the road, he could make out the line of kohl on the base of her eyes as well. She'd thrust his face back onto the road and he'd grinned.

However, the most alluring piece of makeup that she wore that day, had to be that deep pink shade of lipstick, which Sameer had known had heightened his desires to another level. He'd craved to lick off that lipstick from her lips everytime he set eyes upon her. And he had done that too- thrice during the journey. Once behind the thick ambush of trees, near the restaurant where they'd stopped for a break. And then the next time, in the front seat of the car, when Sameer had stopped on a lonesome patch on the road, unable to tame his yearning. Naina had been a seductress he knew, for everytime he kissed her, she'd reapplied the lipstick, casting an evil smirk at him, tempting to him to try again.

"Aise hi chalta raha to agle saal pahunchnge Matheran! He remembered himself saying this, and with striking clarity, also the sound of her reverberating laughter at these words.

The resort in Matheran was exquisite. Sameer had wanted them to be as comfortable as possible. It was around 8 in the night that they finally checked into the retreat. "Mr. and Mrs. Sameer Maheshwari! he'd declared at the reception and seen her eyes lift to him.

His heart now groaned at the irony of it. He'd proclaimed them as man and wife and still hadn't understood it. He recalled his reply, "wo unmarried bolenge to kham-a-kha tumhari badnami hogi aur faltu ka police volice ka chakkar rehta hai! he explained as he carried their bags upstairs to the room, Naina climbing besides him. She'd just smiled understandingly.

As the door had closed behind them, he'd grabbed her into his arms and successfully wiped the lipstick off for the third time. After willing himself in control with great effort, Sameer had proposed, "dinner kar aate hain...fir nahi uthne wala main! Naina giggled. "She'd known he couldn't leave food, even for her!

Sameer sighed as he eyed the untouched plate of food that Ramdhari had kept on his table, hoping he'd would take a few bites. He eyed the delicious samosas, khakra, dhokla, biryani, but the scrumptious aroma wafted right past his nose. He'd lost his appetite when he'd lost his girl.

Another bout of night breeze blew in through the windows onto his face. He fell back into his reminiscence, craving to turn back time and relive those nights again. Those nights!

After dinner they'd stayed chatting on the verandah for a while, looking at the gleaming moon and relaxing in the still countryside. An hour later, he'd bolted the door and taken off his matching blue T-shirt. Somehow they'd been colour-coordinated again! She flaked down on the majestic poster bed, amidst the hanging willowy white curtains and the smooth satin sheets.

"Ahhh! The bed does look extremely soft! he mused.

Naina threw her dupatta off in tiredness. Sometimes he couldn't tell if she did these things innocently or deliberately to arouse him. "Nahane ja rahe ho? she asked. "Haan! he ambled closer to her and then leaned over at the edge of the bed, resting his palms on the wooden footboard. He saw her eyes dart over to his chiseled chest, across his bare, muscular arms, to his sinewy neck, and then move along the thatch of hair on his torso, following it down along the navel to where his faded blue jeans covered his modesty. And then as her eyes met his again, she realized the naughty glint in them. "Toh jao na...yahan khade kyun ho? she remarked, apparently placidly, but the heightened colour in her cheeks was unmistakeable.

He wreathed across the bed and pulled her up by her arm. She landed right across his bare chest from the impact. He could feel her heart pounding against him. He bent his face besides her ear, his slight stubble tickling her senses, "jaa raha hun...par tumhare saath! And then his lips touched her skin just beneath her earlobe in a soft, lingering kiss.

Her body shivered at his touch. How strange was it even after all these times, a mere touch was enough to knock them both out of their senses. As he moved to face her again, he saw desire clearly writ across her face and without wasting a second more, he hurtled her along with him to the bathroom of the suite.

She placed her hands over his chest and pressed her lips against his in a smouldering kiss. It was hard to catch his breath, hard to think, but somehow he was pinned to the wall and Naina seemed to claim every inch of his face, chewing on the flesh on his neck, trailing along his shoulders. He found his hands wandering over the small of her back, against the extremely unnecessary fabric shielding her. And then his fingers found the fix and thrust the zipper of the kurti down, until he'd exposed her to his satisfaction. His hands claimed the flesh inside, his fingers cascaded over her back, under the lacy straps as he heard her whimper and himself moan.

He twirled with her in his arms. It was her turn now to be pressed to the bathroom wall as he yanked out the kurta and treated himself to the delectable womanly body in front of him. With his mouth enjoying hers, he searched for the shower handle and a blast of cool water began drenching them both. The sudden shower made them slam against each other. The lips competed to drink the elixir from the other's.

The water drizzling upon them became warmer, and so did the temperature of the two bodies entwined beneath it. Her hands unbuttoned his jeans and his fingers unknotted the churidaar. And then Naina broke the kiss and retreated a few steps, under the full force of the shower. She flicked her long hair to the back, and let him eye her with hunger at her now transparent remnants of clothing. Her hands crept to her back and Sameer swore he could hear the click of the hooks being undone, and in a moment the flimsy lacy fabric shielding her assets, fell to the floor in a heap. His breathing was hard, haggard as she stood heaving there, having shed all inhibitions, waiting for him to make his move.

His hands moved to bare his own body as he moved closer, step-by-step, like a predator watching its prey before devouring it. Instead of throwing himself upon her, he bent down as he reached her, stooped and placed his lips along her thigh, as if satiating his thirst with the water trailing down her skin. "Ummm! Her moans egged him on. His palms explored her skin, as it tingled at his sensuous touches. His lips moved up as her eyes shut and her body shivered at the intensity. He rubbed his mouth onto her belly, and then licked the water trickling along her waist with his tongue, down below her navel. He traced each and every curve on her skin, marking her as his own. As his lips reached her neck, he saw her tilting her head, giving him access, while she breathed slowly, heavily, her eyes closed in anticipation. He turned her around and repeated the suckling of water all along her body, till he felt her shudder uncontrollably. She was ready for him as much as he was for her. His eyes lit with a haunting need, he turned her again and moved her in position against the wall. She lifted her eyes to him and felt his hands lifting her leg against him. And then he entered her.

The lovemaking was intense, yet it was slow, as if the two were dancing to an unknown rhythm of ecstasy. They could shout out as loud as they wanted to here. There were no hostel mates or wardens to overhear them. As the rivulets of water streamed down them, Sameer claimed her. Cries of delight rose from them, interspersed with whimpers and groans as their hands fumbled every inch of their body they could find. He thrust himself harder, his lips bit into the soft flesh of her neck. "She was his! His forever, he'd subconsciously thought as he yelped in pleasure as he heard her demand more. "Love you babe...! he had croaked.

It was eerie how he had never remembered saying those words that night under the shower, but he could now recall each and every detail as vividly as if it had been playing in front of him on a screen. He had never, ever said the word love, even by mistake, even while succumbing to the deepest of passions to any other girl, nor had ever responded to their endearments. And there his sub-conscious had blurted it out to her that he'd loved her. Had she heard him? Or had she been too aroused herself to acknowledge or to process the words. Or maybe she too had ignored him like he'd been ignoring those girls in his bed before.

He felt her body thudder spasmodically, in sync with his own and he felt he'd achieved bliss- yet again. As he tried to catch his breathing and gazed into her heavy lidded eyes in stupor, he knew that she had too. He understood she'd been sated like he was. He'd had enough experience to tell if she, or for that matter any other woman had achieved the zenith with him or not. And Naina's eyes never lied- even during the times when he rushed things, and was too quick for her, when she tried to hide her disappointment, he knew. He always knew.

He turned off the shower as they lay crumbled against each other in exhaustion and her arms encircled his neck for support. She didn't say anything but rested her head against his chest, while he nuzzled her neck and peppered soft, meaningful kisses all over her shoulders, her cheeks and lips.

As they calmed down, he pulled her up in his arms and carried her to the bed. He took off a towel from the bedside and wiped the water from her body as she looked on intently. She was no longer shy post their love-making these days, he noticed. He missed her embarrassment, her shyness in bed, but despite that he loved the bold woman who claimed her right on him even more.

Loved! He'd thought he loved her. Again- after merely five minutes of confessing it to her, to himself under that shower. He'd been thinking about it all along, yet he had never realized it! Fool! You were a fool Sameer! He closed his eyes to prevent the tears which had threatened to come out since the day he'd heard about her wedding, only to feel them blistering his eyes. The only vision he could now recollect was of how after drying his own self, he'd laid her down and made love to her, again, and again. All through that night.

He reminisced the bonfire the next evening, as they lay huddled together on the wooden garden chair, in the warmth of the fire, a blanket covering them both, and the serene hits of the 90s playing on a stereo system of the resort. The advantages of choosing an expensive retreat was that they experienced relative privacy and not the hordes of families, friends and couples who frequented these picnic spots during the monsoon season. That weekend had probably been the best weekend of his life. It was as if they'd been a newly married couple on their honeymoon. He'd felt love as she lay cocooned in his arms.

Such blaring signs were visible all around him, inside him, yet he'd been unaware of them all. He'd felt complete with her. As if life was unimaginable without her.

It still was unimaginable without her. His heart refused to beat, drowning in misery at the fate his love had befallen. By now his cheeks were wet with tears. But he didn't care. He cared for nothing now. No one. Not for the teasing taunts of the senior boys in hostel who'd seen him wailing when he'd hurt his knee while playing.

"Boys don't cry! they'd laughed and bullied him since then. The matron had attended to the wound, while he'd waited for his mother to call or perhaps to take him back with her. The endless, fruitless wait, jarred with the taunts of, "Sameer is crying! Sameer is a girl! Sameer is a baby! And then as he'd limped out of his dormitory, he'd decided that he would never cry now. Never. For no one.

He was six years old then. At twenty one now, he knew he'd broken his promise to himself for Naina. As the reality sank in, his will lost the battle to his agony. He broke down, allowing his tears to flow uninterruptedly, lamenting the loss of his Naina forever.

He couldn't live without her. He couldn't even bring himself to breathe. As if his windpipe was choked and each inhalation craved for Naina. Something was strangling him, piercing his heart with a sharp knife.

"Naina! he bellowed as images of his love wrapping her arms around another man singed his eyes. "Naina! I love you! Please mujhe chod ke mat jao...! he cried to the walls of the room, but no one extended a hand of sympathy, no one came to salve his pain. Naina did not magically appear. No matter how hard he tried, he could not wake up from this ghoulish nightmare. And if he could not awaken to a blissful reality, he must not awaken at all.

Realization struck him! It was time to sleep, he sighed. He got up slowly and flicked out the lights in his room and bolted the door. With Naina's photograph secure in one hand, he lunged for the bottle with the sleeping pills- the dosage marked clearly on the labels. Sameer ignored the warnings. With shaking hands, he unscrewed it and thrust a handful of those small, white pills in his mouth, and gulped them down with a jug of water. "This should let me sleep peacefully, he mused. A smile crept onto his lips as he now knew that he would be beyond this pain soon. He kissed Naina for the last time in her photograph. And then he lay his head on his pillow, her picture pressed close to his chest. He would be asleep with his Naina in his arms. Forever.

Miles away, she jerked up bolt upright in her bed, perspiration beading her forehead. "Sameer! she stuttered. She was still shivering from the nightmare.
