The title of this show "This is love" depicts the many flavors and expressions of love...as parent, child, friend, lover, relative, employee and many more. The definition of love is subjective and personal. But if we remove all labels to the relationships between the characters, the only way misunderstandings and distance can ever be removed is acceptance. Ultimately the true definition of love is just acceptance of what is, who is and how things are.
Mihir's distanced himself from Shagun because he couldn't accept his sister's choices. To err is human, to forgive divine. I often wondered if Shagun were in mortal danger, would Mihir still refuse to have anything to do with her or come to her aid?
Shagun walked away from Raman and left him to pick up the pieces of his life with Ruhi. Ishita has been the balm to heal Raman's soul and believe in love and trust again. Even Raman who was deeply hurt when Shagun left him for Ashok has stepped up to help her for humanitarian reasons, not as his ex-wife or the mother of his children.
It was love at first sight for Mihir when he met Mihika. Every time he meets Shagun his anger and resentment of the past still simmers below the surface. He avoids her or hurts her with his words. If Mihir doesn't forgive Shagun for her choices and let go of the anger and resentment, they will show up in his own life down the road. Hatred and resentment eats away at the person holding such feelings...no matter how angry Mihir gets at Shagun it hurts him more...enough to impact his marriage.
Mihika now works for Ashok, the very man Shagun chose over Raman and her marriage. Ashok has plans to use Mihika to teach Shagun a lesson and it could become a situation of his words against hers. Will Mihir judge her the same way he judged Shagun? Will his trust in Mihika be shaken because once again Ashok is the reason and he judges Mihika bec' he's reminded of Shagun's betrayal of her husband. Or will Mihir face a situation where his love for Mihika overcomes all hurdles and he finally forgives Shagun? After all this is love, aka yeh hai mohabbatein.
