great post 👍🏼
Your analysis is a reminder of why the show is aptly titled ye hai mohabbatein. I was completely clueless about Mihir and Shagun's relationship when I had watched the Mihir-Trisha engagement scene. I had just thought that it was a Bhabhi-devar relationship gone sour, for obvious reasons. So them being siblings had been quite the shocker for me😃

Looking back now, it is evident that there was more to Mihir's annoyance with Shagun; her betrayal to Raman having hurt him more because she was his sister.
Note that even during the accident drama, Mihir had not only vehemently opposed Shagun himself, but was also miffed with Raman for having sided her.

As you rightly pointed out, I'm sure Mihir is deeply ashamed of his sister's antics. But I also believe that Mihika being the love of his life deserves to know the truth about this relationship. After all, what is 'mohabbat' without honesty and trust?

Interesting post btalwar.
I like your take on Shagun. I always thought that there is some part of Shagun, the woman beneath the greed and hunger for money, who regretted her choice. It is visible in some instances - in her care and interest for Mihir's life, in her pained expression when he dismisses her, it is there when she sees Raman going to great extremes for Ishita, it is there when she feels jealous of her daughter having a deep connection of love with Ishita, ...

As for Mihir I honestly think he wants to move on and he has been successful to a great extent so far. I love the bound he shares with Raman, I find it so so touching. Mihir once said that Raman took him under his wings since he was still a teenager and made him who he is today. When Shagun left Raman, I think he couldn't take his sister betraying them both, him the brother and the man who did so much for them, doted on them. He chose right from wrong and made Raman his family, his everything.

But one doesn't forget his own sister like that. For all she did, they must have shared sweet moments too. However there is extreme resentment in him towards her. In a way he must be angered that she took his lovable sister from him, she took happiness from them. His sentiments and him keeping the rakhi show that she is still in a corner of his mind and maybe she always will be.

Gud morning Bhanu ..
Firstly thank u for linking my post to ur post ... Ties that Bind & Bonds that tie ...
This is my fav post of mine ... not because of what i wrote in it .. but because of the title ... so thanx once again ...

I wrote last nite about the incredible simplicity in ur writing ... u are truly talented .. its not just ur talent with words but the depth of emotional connect & stirring that ur writing manages to evoke that leaves the reader with a smile on the face .. am an ardent fan ..

To wake up in the morning & log into IF & read ur post today ... has worked better than the morning cup of tea ... the relation between brother & sister is very special to me so it evoked a special pinch & stir for me personally ... so once again Thank u for articulating so exquisitely about a relation which is the one relation which u start from birth & is with u till the end ... its special as in theres love, mischief, fun, strength, promise ...

Ur post talks about the Mihir & Shagun relation ... ( they being brother & sister is a given) but if one reads it a bit more deeply & uncovers the depth of ur post ... what u get is the relation between Raman & Simmi as well ...

There was one brother Mihir who in his own way tried to stop his sister from making the BIGGEST MISTAKE Of her LIFE ... but he being a young kid all he could do was take a STAND ...
He without his fault is party to his sisters DEVASTATION ... yes Shagun is devastation ... she has lost everything ... the one thing she walked out for she does not even have that ... ASHOK KHANNA ... ( will elaborate in my post tonite) ... Mihir while knowing this from the outset COULD NOT STOP his sister from committing that MISTAKE ...

The tie that bound them together was severed by the sister ... but the bond which ties them together ..makes him keep the rakhi & makes her send the rakhi ..
What is RAKHI ... its a string that a sister ties on the hands of her brother binding him to be her protector for life ... that PROTECTION was torn apart by SHAGUN herself .
But a brother still manages to keep the string with him ... even while he has cut the connection .. his promise to PROTECT is intact ...

Then theres the other brother RAMAN ... THE ELDER BROTHER ... this part of the post shall continue tonite ... 😉

ALL IN ALL ...👏

Bold: I don't know whether that is regret or her massive ego that cannot tolerate raman's indifference towards her. Raman hated shagun before and he still does, but before ishita came along, his hate was obsessive. Now it is just dislike and intolerance, Ishita is the center of his life now which eats away at shagun. I don't think it is regret, just bitter jealousy.

Talking about Raman and Simmi's bond as bro and sis, the precap was telling...

Raman who was devastated by the betrayal of his ex-wife Shagun when she broke the bonds of matrimony and walked out on him and Ruhi for greener pastures into the arms of Ashok Khanna today couldn't care less if Simmi had to break her bonds of matrimony rather than send her to live with the pervert Param. This is his sister who has forged his signature, stolen his business files all at the behest of her husband (she was misled on occasion) yet the protective brother Raman wouldn't let her throw her life away to a man who lacks character. He prefers his sister to cut her losses now than regret later when Pervy could make decisions which would impact her and their daughter in a bad way. Raman is successful and can provide and protect his sister until she finds someone who would treat her right.

May i call u Mera ...

Super Mera ... sometimes one is incapacitated at the hands of love ... but that does not mean one can't protect ...

I think if u look at this ... the writers are being very deep with this thot ... while sometimes u can't forcefully change a persons thinking .. but u can be supportive & protect .. while u cannot stop a person from making a mistake ..but u can at least minimise the damage from that mistake ...

Its a really beautiful thot ... i wondered why the makers gave Rakhi a miss ... but the timing for Rakhi is absolutely brilliant In YHM ...

Simmi will tie a thread which will ask her brother to protect her ... & protect her he will ...

Very nice take on the relationship Bhanu..
LIke Ishu says to Bala - Divorce is between a couple, not between parents - which was a very deep meaning statement , likewise some relationships cant be broken forever.
Mihir in his heart must love Shagun but he made a decision to stay with RKB because of the reason shagun left him and he feels his loyalty lies there.

Shagun too has run after clothes and money whereas she never understood that the most beautiful clothes that a woman can dress in are the arms of the man who loves her.

Ishu understands that and in that way looks more beautiful than her

I would actually like to see a changed Shagun who returns to Mihir after she walks out on Ashok(I'd like to she her walk out on Ashok, than Ashok throwing her out) and Mihir taking care of her, making her financially stable and responsible, maybe even get her married to a nice guy

Yes there was definitely that before. Now I think it's a mix of both. Recently she has seen Ashok's despicable behaviour vs. Raman who can do anything for his wife. Regret and jealousy both work in the sense that she could have had this life but she let it go herself, she is no more that person who mattered most...not to Ashok, definitely not to Raman

Humm food for thought. It does put the new spoiler into new perspective but redwine I must say I am not convinced on how exactly damage can be minimized in the Simmi-param equation in the long run 😕

Read the post last night Bhanu. Loved it! Going to come back for a detailed response
Thanks for this post Bhanu. Penned it very well and agree with you completely. The responses on the thread have already covered all the points. I also hope CVs explore this Mihir Shagun track in more detail that holds a lot of promise. Sibling bond is an unbreakable bond...no matter what the differences, you are there for each other. Shagun has actually displayed her attachment quite a few times, now need to see Mihir do the same
