Here's part 8 of the story!! It was supposed to be the last part but unfortunately i couldn't wrap it up in 2500 words so i'll have to write another part. Hope you enjoy it, i've spent the afternoon typing for you guys😳

Part 8 : Raman talks with Ishita on the phone

The wedding is slowly coming to an end as the night starts. Ishita is feeling happy and at peace. The fact that she got to talk to Subbu makes her feel like she a found again a long lost friend. She feels like a weight has been taken of her chest, and she can't help but smiling.

All this time, she had this wound of her past in her, and now it feels like someone just put the right balm on it so it can cicatrize. Then something itches in her : she realizes she wants to talk to Raman because good news are meaningful only when shared with our loved ones.

She needs to borrow a mobile phone. Priya and Ragav are busy being lovey dovey so she doesn't want to disturb them and she doesn't know anyone else. She is disappointed because she really wants to talk to Raman, to hear his voice and his one liners. Subbu comes at her :

S : "ishita you look worried. What is wrong?"

I : "No it's nothing..."

S : "You can tell me, who knows, maybe I can help you?"

I : "Hmm. It's just that... I need a mobile phone, I wanted to call Ram... home. To let them know everything is well."

S smiling: "Here take my phone."

Ishita takes it : "Thank you so much! I'll be 2 minutes."

Subbu : "don't worry, take as much time you need. Really."

Raman is sitting in the living room, watching TV with Toshi and Bhalla (Ruhi is already asleep), when his phone rings. It shows "incoming call from unknown ID". He cancels the call without answering. A minute later, the phones rings again.

R ends the call again : "Why the heck this unknown number keeps calling me?"

Toshi : "what is it puttar?"

Raman : "I don't know maa, there is an unidentified ID that keeps calling on my phone. It's so annoying"

Toshi : "Don't get angry puttar. It's probably a mistake."

Ishita : "This Ravan kumar! Why doesn't he answer my phonecall?" She decides to try on the landline. "I hope Raman will pick it up."

At home : the phone rings. Toshi gets up to pick up. She is annoyed because she was watching her favourite movie.

Toshi : "Who is calling in the middle of the night!?"

Ishita : "Mummy jee? It's me ishita."

Toshi : "Ooh ishita! Now you remember about us, uh? Why didn't you call earlier?"

Raman's head turns in direction of toshi at light speed. His full attention is on the phone call.

Ishita : "Sorry I didn't call much, it was very busy here."

Toshi pouts : well, it doesn't matter now." Then she asks"How are you? Is everything going well over there?"

Ishita : "Yes mummy jee. how is ruhi ? I miss her so much."

Toshi : "ruhi chuhi is doing fine, she was a bit sad first but then it got better. By the way ishita, when are you coming back?"

Ishita : actually I think that I'll take the plane tomorrow in the afternoon and be back by the evening.

Toshi : "I'll ask Raman to come and get you."

Ishita : "No mummy jee, he'll probably be busy at work. It's okay, I'll take a cab.

Toshi : as you wish. Alright, good night ishita...

Ishita : "mummy jee wait !"

Toshi : "uh? What is it?"

Ishita doesn't want to hang up because she didn't get to talk to raman, but she is feeling too shy to ask Toshi to put Raman on the phone as Toshi will probably make fun of her.

On his side, raman is too eager to talk to ishita, he gets close to the phone, waiting for toshi to pass him the phone.

Ishita : "Err... How is my amma?"

Toshi annoyed : "Your amma? Why don't you call at her house to ask her? See you tomorrow, take care." And she hangs up. Raman grunt out of frustration. He can't believe his mom just hung up.

Ishita : "no wait! Allo?" she hears the bip at the end of the line.

Toshi to raman: "this madrasan... she asked me how is her amma!! If she is so worried about her amma, why did she call here? That too in the middle of the night. Uff."

Ishita decides to call back and gathering her courage, she plans to ask for raman. She dials again.

Toshi starts to leave but the phone rings again. She is about to pick up when Raman hands move on its own and picks it up.

Raman : "allo?"

Ishita hears raman's voice. Her hearts misses a beat. Her Ravan Kumar. She finally gets to talk to him after 4 days. She is so happy she forgets to talk back.

Raman getting angry and impatient on the phone: "Allo? Ishita ?? Allo!? Arre this phone is not working. Ishita? Are you here?"

Ishita gets back to her senses and laughs. Raman's heart is filled with joy when he hears the laughter of his wife.

Ishita says "He's the CEO of a big company but doesn't know how to make a phone work!"

Raman poutting. "I know how to use a phone, thank you. You're the one who is not working properly here. Why didn't you answer right away? If you didn't want to talk, why did you even call?"

Ishita smiles: "arre baba sorry! Why so angry uh?"

Raman smiles too but then he looks over at his parents, he tries to hide his happiness because of his ego. Toshi realizes what is going on when she sees her son beaming.

Toshi : "arre bhalla. I'm feeling tired. Let's go to sleep now."

Bhalla : "but toshi the movie is not over yet! And it's your favourite, don't you want to watch it?"

Toshi, trying again : "I've seen it a million times already. Bass, mene kaha amko jana hai to chalo. No discussion!" She tilts her head towards Raman. Bhalla finally understands.

Bhalla *fake yawns* "You're right Toshi, I'm feeling tired too. Let's go. Goodnight puttar."

Raman : "good night dad." Once he is finally alone, he sits near the phone, planning to talk to his heart's content.

Ishita : "Raman, are you here?"

Raman : "Yes. So, how is everything going?"

Ishita : "everything was so beautiful here. I kept on getting emotional during the whole ceremony."

Raman : "That's so you! You get teary eyed so easily!"

Ishita poutting "you don't understand this type of thing. You don't have any heart !

Raman : not true. I've cried at a wedding before.

Ishita excited to hear about the story : really?! Who was getting married?

Raman : "I was. To you. And I've been crying since then..."

Ishita : "Tsss. Ravan kumar! You got me!" They both laugh. Raman wants to tell her how much he misses her, he wants to tell her that he is ready to go and pick her up right now if she asked but his ego comes in between his heart and his mouth so he starts his nokjok instead.

Raman : "By the way, I know it's a wedding and there is plenty of food but don't eat too much alright warna tum moti ho jaye ghi!"

Ishita : nothing like that! We're in the south here, we eat only healthy vegetables, not like you Punjabis! There is no oil fried chicken here. You should be the one being careful!

Raman : that's not possible, since you're gone I've been stuffing myself with good Punjabis tasty food because I know that once you come back, mujhe sirf khaas pooss hi milne wala hai!"

Ishita : I do it for your own good, you eat so much fried chicken that sometime you look like one to me!

Raman : I may look like a fried chicken but at least I can make it look better with the right clothes. I've a sense of fashion. Worry about yourself maam! You look like a white eggplant and you dress with saabzi ke chilke over it! You're a lost cause Ishita...

Ishita : If I'm so ugly why does your mouth fall open whenever you see me after I get ready for an event uh?

Raman : that's because you amaze me.

Ishita gets silent. To herself : "did he just say what I think I heard?"

Raman continues : "Yes, I'm amazed because each time I think I've seen the worst but you keep coming up with new atrocious outfits and hair styles. I don't know how you do it, really."

Ishita cracks up. "Ravan kumar! Kabhi nahin sudre ghe aap!" Raman laughs too.

Raman gets serious : So ishita, when are you coming back ? I... I mean Ruhi, she really misses you, she can't fall asleep without burying her face in your pillow"

Ishita's heart clenches : Awww. I misses her too my baby girl. Tell her I'll be back tomorrow in the evening.

Raman : "What time? I'll come to pick you up at the airport."

Ishita : no raman you don't have too, I don't want to disturb you, I'll just take a cab, it will do just fine.

Raman : "I'm not doing that for you. But for Ruhi. Sirf ruhi keh liye."

Ishita : "for ruhi? How's that?"

Raman : I want to make sure you look decent before bringing you home. Who knows what you'll look like when you get out of the plane? I don't want you to scare the poor girl. Say yes.

Ishita tries not to laugh : "ok then. At 4pm. Sirf ruhi ke liye."

Raman is beaming. "Noted. See you tomorrow."

Ishita : "see you tomorrow. Good night Raman."

Raman goes to sleep, light hearted, smiling like never before as he knows that no one is watching him so he doesn't have to hide his feelings. He is just absolutely happy that he will get to see his Jansi ki rani tomorrow.

Once she hangs up, Ishita squeezes the phone on her heart. She is blissful. Subbu who was waiting a few feet away (to give her privacy) comes to her as he sees that she is done with the phone call.

Subbu : "You look very happy. Any good news to share?

Ishita smiling: Nothing like that. I was just talking to R..." she pauses. She doesn't feel at ease talking about raman to subbu

Subbu "Raman? You were talking to your husband Raman right?"

Ishita getting a bit uncomfortable "right... Well thank you for the phone." She is about to leave but subbu start talking.

Subbu : "you know Ishita. Right from the day I broke our engagement I've prayed." Ishita looks at him, not knowing where this conversation is going.

Subbu continues : "Each day, I've prayed for you. I've asked God to give you all you ever wanted, a loving husband and an offspring. A family to love and to care for. And I can see today that my prayers have been answered. I'm truly happy for you Ishita."

Ishita, tears filling her eyes: "why did you pray for me?

Subbu sighs with a smile: "For so many reasons Ishita... Because I wanted to. Because you deserved it. Because you've always been in my heart in one way or another. But mostly, because it was a way to make it up for the pain I gave you, and it helped me forgive myself, which is a thing I've struggled to do all this time. But today, I can finally be at peace as I know that you've found the true meaning of your life".

Ishita starts crying openly. He comes close and hugs her (like a brother), he is fighting the tears too. With this hug, they both put the past behind them.

Priya see them both crying and comes with Ragav. She is a bit worried but Ragav is not so much because he's a happy go lucky kind of guy.

Ragav : "Yaar what is going on, you two are more emotional than the actual wedding couple!" they all laugh. Priya is happy that Subbu and Ishita are on good terms.

Subbu wipes his tears : "I should probably get going now."

Ragav : "Can't you wait a bit more? We didn't even get the chance to talk properly!"

Subbu : "Actually tomorrow I've a flight early in the morning. I'm going at my brother's house, in the north. My babhi is pregnant so I wanted to go and congratulates her and my brother.

Ishita, suprised: "You're going to see Vandu akka? She is at my amma's house these days."

Priya : "At your amma's house? Doesn't that mean you two are going at the same place? Ishita's plane is in the afternoon. Why don't you two travel together? It'll make things easier."

Subbu and Ishita looks at each other, both hesitant but ragav and priya insist.

Priya : "ishita don't think too much. It's not good for a woman to travel alone. We all be at peace if we know that subbu is with you".

After some discussion, it's agreed. Ishita and Subbu will meet in the afternoon at the airport to take the same plane.

Before leaving Subbu calls out ishita : "Ishita, here take my phone number, in case we don't find each other easily at the airport." He gives her a piece of paper with his number written on it.

Ishita takes it : "thank you."
