It was crude of Raman to bring Subbu up the way he did but at least he felt guilty. Not apologizing to Ishita was unfair but then, now she has left to Chennai and with with Subbu's impending return to the scenes, RKB is going to feel the jalan. I'm waiting for the next update. 😊

Hi every one ! I'm back with Subbu... err😛 i mean with the 6th part of my OS "BYE BYE THE COUCH".

Part 7 : Subbu - Ishita confrontation !

For the next 2 days, all the preparations for the wedding are going on. Ishita takes part in everything so she is very busy. She doesn't find time to call raman, at first she feels guilty about it but then she says to herself : "this ravan kumar is probably so happy that I'm away, he always complains when I'm around. I don't think he even thought once about me..."

On the other side, raman terribly misses his wife. He misses waking up to her beautiful innocent face; he misses seeing her taking care of ruhi, he misses her lectures over what's right and wrong, the way she gets excited about little attentions towards her, how she takes care of everything for him without asking anything in return. During those two days he lives with a pang of loneliness.

Everyone is in the living room. Raman comes back from the office, angry as he has been since Ishita left, and trips over one of ruhi's toy.

Raman shoots angrily in the toy. Everyone is shocked.

Raman : "Ruhi! Your ishima is not here to clean up after you so you better start taking care of your belongings yourself." Everyone looks at him, more and more shocked about his sudden outburst.

Raman, sarcastically : "If you don't feel like doing it, please come and tell me. I'll happily do it for you, I'll take all your toy-shoys and throw them away." He glares at her and goes in his room.

Ruhi doesn't say anything. She sits still for a minute then goes in Raman's room.

Raman in sitting at the edge of the bed, staring into emptiness, frowning. Ruhi enters quietly, and without saying something, she climbs up the bed and hug tight her papa.

Raman gets back to his senses as he feels tiny arms around him.

Raman : "ruhi? What are you doing?..."

Ruhi looks into his eyes : "I miss her too papa." They look deeply into each other eyes

Ruhi : "don't worry papa. Ishimaa will be back soon." Ruhi hugs him again.

Raman hugs her back and wipes his eyes discreetly. Ruhi is truly the angel of his life.

Finally the day of the wedding arrives. All day Ishita is excited and happy for Priya but she is a bit anxious to see Subbu. She decides that she will go to subbu right when he comes, talk to him and then enjoy the rest of the evening without minding him.

As the wedding starts Ishita looks around. She doesn't find Subbu. Then she overhears the telephonic conversation of a man.

Man : "What? Yaar don't tell me this. This can't be!... But... You can't do this, you're my best friend! Well... alright then... let me now if you can make it. Ok bye."

Ishita sees Priya coming to the man : "Ragav ? You look worried. What happened?"

Ragav : "I just got Subbu on the phone. There are some troubles, he can't come at the wedding. His wife is feeling sick so she won't come and there is no one who can stay with her for the rest of the day so subbu isn't coming either. I'm so disappointed. He's my best friend, I wanted him to be here so bad!"

Hearing subbu's name, ishita got closer without realizing it.

Priya turns around and sees her : "Ishita? Come, I'll introduce you to my husband to be ! Ragav, this is ishita, one of my best friends."

Ragav : "Nice to meet you. I remember you from High school!" he innocently adds "You were Subbu's girlfriend back then right? " Priya elbows him to make him shut up.

Ishita laughs "Nice to meet you too. And yes, I was Subbu's girlfriend back then. But it's all in the past now. I'm a married woman and as you know subbu is married too so no need to talk about all that from now on"

Ragav : "you're right, I'm sorry. It's just that Subbu talks so often about you, you know? He has so many good memories linked to you."

Ishita doesn't respond. She is trying to prevent her brain to remember all the good memories with subbu because it's only going to hurt her in the end.

The thing hurting her to no end is that ALL her memories with Subbu are GOOD ones except one: the day he told her he wanted to break the engagement. That's why it hurts so much, he didn't let her fall out of love with him : one day everything was perfect and the next day, everything was over. It went from bright to dark in the blink of an eye. Her heart clenches, her stomach twists.

Only one thing makes her feel better : Subbu is not coming at the wedding today. She breathes deeply at this good news. She was wrong when she said it was all in the past. She may not have any hard feeling towards HIM, but the pain in HER is still here.

Priya tries to change the subject of discussion: "Talking about your husband, you didn't tell me anything about him yet! Ishita, don't keep secrets from me! By the way why didn't he come today? I would have loved to meet him. His name is Raman, right?"

Ishita smiles, she feels better as soon as Priya mentions Raman. After the Subbu fiasco, she had lived for her family's happiness and only when first Ruhi then Raman made her a place into their lives, she felt like she deserved some happiness of her own.

Ishita: "raman Kumar bhalla... What can I tell you about him! If he's not here today it's mostly my fault, I didn't ask him to come as he's not so much into south Indian events."

Priya : "he's not into south Indian yet he married you? He must have fallen hard for you then!"

Ishita : "He's a walking paradox. You couldn't understand him if you tried. I've stopped trying myself!" they all laugh.

The evening goes with all the ceremonies. When Ragav puts the ring on Priya's finger, Ishita has tears of joy in her eyes. She remembers when raman put Ruhi's handmade ring on her finger.

Suddenly she feels a hand on her shoulder.

As she turns around, she sees Subbu, standing right in front of her, with a small smile.

Subbu : "Ishita... Hi."

Ishita is so shocked she can't speak for a moment.

Subbu : "... how are you?"

Ishite coming back to her senses : "Yes.. I mean... fine. Subbu... What are you doing here?"

Subbu : "It's my best friend's wedding . I had to be there right?"

Ishita : "Of course. But I mean, I thought you wouldn't come. Your wife... How's your wife?"

Subbu :" She is feeling better. Her sister came to stay with her for the evening."

Ishita : "Shouldn't you have stayed with her anyway?"

Subbu : "she herself insisted for me to come. She knows that it means a lot to me. And since Priya told me you would be there too, I just couldn't miss it."

I : "what ... what do you mean?"

Subbu : "It's just that... Listen ishita, after all that happened between us, I felt like I should have a proper talk with you."

I : " a talk about what? There is nothing left to say."

S : "there is Ishita. I wanted... I NEEDED to apologize to you"

I : "subbu, you don't have to..."

S : "let me finish Ishita. Please."
He pauses "Since the day you were diagnosed with infertility, I never got the chance to talk to you. I mean, talk to you without my mother around."

Ishita remembers how Subbu's mother developed a vicious form of hatred towards her as soon as the infertility word was spoken. The woman she considered as her mother in law back then brainwashed her husband-to-be and destroyed her life. Remembering this, she feels like someone just crushed her chest with a hammer.

I : "Let's forget about this Subbu..." she fight hard to not let tears come to her eyes.

S : "All I wanted to say is that I'm sorry for..."

Ishita is getting irritated with Subbu as he is insisting. "For what Subbu? Sorry for what? For leaving me?"

Subbu is shocked to see an angry Ishita. He had never seen her like that. Subbu looks at her without knowing what to say

Ishita continues : "No really Subbu, tell me. I'm ready to listen now. What are you exactly sorry for today?" As he doesn't answer, Ishita starts to leave.

S finally says: "For hurting you."

Ishita turns around. She didn't expect this answer.
After a pause, she says pensively : "for hurting me?"

S : "yes. I know you're mad at me and..."

Ishita interrupts him : "I'm not mad at you. Especially not because you've hurt me."
Subbu doesn't seem to understand.
Ishita says "Life is not a bollywood movie Subbu. It's what it is, with its share of happiness and pain. We're bound to get hurt, it's not the problem. Problem is you didn't only hurt me, you HUMITLIATED me. You believed I was unworthy of sharing your life, of being your partner... All because I couldn't ... conceive?"

The words disgusts her as it slip out of her mouth. Since Subbu left her, she has come so far to fight the idea that motherhood is only for those who can conceive that it literally disgust her to have to live it all again.

She wipes away the tears that have started rolling down her face. She continues "And now you're here to tell me you're sorry... Please Subbu, don't do that to me..."

Seeing her crying is more than what Subbu can take. He comes near ishita and takes her by the shoulders. "Ishita I'm sorr-"

Ishita interrupts him "I know Subbu. You're sorry. I got it. But... Why weren't you sorry when you walked out of my life? You crushed my happiness, my hopes and dreams in one instant. You broke my heart, my family's heart too. You destroyed everything I had without giving me a chance to talk to you..."

Ishita looks into his eyes : "You didn't want to marry me... I was okay with that. But you didn't have to cut me out of your life like that. As if I was no one... or nothing."

Subbu : "It was the only way for me to move on. I broke the bridges behind me...so that there was no choice but forward. I am the one who left you, but that doesn't mean things were any easier for me than they were for you. The day I let my mother broke our engagement, I too lost the love of my life. I lost the woman I had planned on spending the rest of my life with. I lost my best friend, my childhood friend, my soul mate." He has tears in his eyes.

Ishita's heart aches for the man who was once her friend.

Subbu wipes his eyes and says : "Not acknowledging your existence, as I did then, was the only way I had to make both of us look into the future."

Ishita doesn't say anything but she knows there is a part of truth in what Subbu just said. She wishes she could have stayed friend with him, but most probably she would have hoped all along that he would one day come back to her. She would have lived in her past, growing bitter day by day. Because Subbu got out of her life 100%, he gave her the chance to rebuild something.

They are both silent, trying to recompose themselves.

Priya and Ragav come to meet them. Ragav is extremely happy to see Subbu. They all chit chat together.

During the conversation, Ishita looks at Subbu without him noticing. She feels like she can give a real closure to her painful past.
Yes, one day she had felt like the shame of the world was on her shoulders because she couldn't conceive.
Yes, one day she had felt like her heart was bearing all the pain in the world because her fiance had left her.
But now? Didn't she find the true meaning of her life? She is married to someone who not only overlooked on her infertility, but gave her the most beautiful child of the world. A picture of Raman and Ruhi smiling flashes through her mind which makes her heart floats in happiness. Somewhat, she is thankful to Subbu. Subbu eyes fall on her. He smiles at her. She smiles back.

''Maybe now is the time to forgive him'' she thinks to herself.
