Part 10:
The sleepless night filled with sweet tortures and longings came to an end with a knock on the door. It was Ruhi who had woken up in an empty room. She had a letter for Raman. It was from Shagun.
Shagun and Adi had left with Ashok early in the morning and the letter just conveyed that. Ishita was literally fuming at Shagun's carelessness of having left Ruhi all alone like that. She once again swore in her mind that never ever would she leave Raman or Ruhi and give up this life for the sake of Shagun or anyone for that matter.
Meanwhile Raman was happy that Shagun left. Else having her around would have been so awkward especially after what she tried the previous night.
Though Raman wouldn't acknowledge it, he felt a unique relief at Shagun and Adi going away from the picnic leaving him, Ruhi and Ishita. A picture perfect family and the picnic became happier and exciting for him and he never felt such peace ever before.
Ruhi was cheerful just at the thought of the picnic with Ishima and papa. She was anyways feeling like a fish out of water without Ishima and in the company of her Adi bhaiya and Shagun mamma. She never felt at home with them. They were like total strangers around her.
Luckily the anti allergy pills and the ointment worked wonders and the rashes and blisters subsided considerably. Just a few light marks remained which needed time to fade out. But that doesn't decrease her enthusiasm for the picnic plans. She is all up for it when she sees Ruhi's smiling face and excitement.
Ishita, Raman and Ruhi have an awesome day out at the theme park, a super awesome lunch and also a kid's film together at Ruhi's insistence. It was a 3 D animation movie at the theatre inside the resort. Though Raman argued against the movie plan, Ishita and Ruhi weren't going to hear a No from him. So they were in the theatre again just for Ruhi. As they took their seats with Ruhi between them, Raman could only wish that Ishita sat next to him.
He craved for some lone time especially after their intimate therapy last night. Somewhere inside, his desires had got ignited but it also irked him that she was acting totally ignorant of whatever happened. She showed no signs of attraction or desire towards him. It felt as if she had long forgotten all that happened. She appeared perfectly normal and that indifference annoyed him beyond limits but he suppressed it and acted normal.
Ishita was all into Ruhi and her matters. He could sense that Ishita's happiness and her world just revolved around his daughter Ruhi. He didn't seem to fit in anywhere in that picture.
Not that he was unhappy that Ishita had become Ruhi's mother in all meanings but still he felt jealous that her love was just for Ruhi. Along with being Ruhi's Ishima, wasn't she his wife too? How could she forget that relationship? He did smack himself for doing these comparisons with his own sweet daughter or rather trying to snatch away a little love from her Ishima whose entire attention and love was focussed on just Ruhi. He knew that he was being a little selfish in thinking so and also knew that Ishita had married him just for Ruhi and nothing related to him would matter to her. But even then, he couldn't stop himself from thinking on those lines.
His ego was too big to ask her about it as well. He didn't know how to coin out his feelings for her. What would she think? How would she react? He had seen feelings for him in her eyes as well but then he was confused at times. Ishita's on and off behaviour kind of masked her feelings. He was puzzled if she was really nurturing love for her husband Raman or was it concern, care and compassion for Ruhi's papa Raman? Both were poles apart like sky and earth and he couldn't assume anything nor could he upset their smooth life by acting hastily.
He had to wait. The film had started and the lights dimmed but he wasn't focussing on the screen. His thoughts were only regarding Ishita and their previous night's encounter. Meanwhile the focal point of his thoughts and his life, Ishita, was fully into the film along with Ruhi. She was laughing, giggling and enjoying the movie, just like little Ruhi! His glances darted towards her and her childlike antics enchanted him. That's when he noticed that it was a young guy, probably from some college sitting next to her. His eyes were fixed on Ishita and not on the screen. That was more than enough to set Raman on fire. Added to that, he saw that the guy's hands were casually brushing hers and also trying to gain more access. He fumed and also mentally scolded her for being totally oblivious and ignorant to what was happening around her. All he wished was to punch that guy and drag her away from that movie hall but Raman didn't want to make a scene either. There were families all around and he couldn't create problems and embarrass his wife and daughter. So he slowly whispered into Ruhi's ears, "Ruhi, apne Ishima se kaho ke papa ko baath karni hai..."
Ruhi didn't oblige first as she was totally into the movie but then his constant urge made Ishita look to this side. Raman glared at her and gestured her to move in to the seat where Ruhi was sitting which she didn't obviously understand.
Raman had to do something now. So he moved Ruhi to his seat and sat next to Ishita. Ishita was really perplexed wondering what he wanted. He grabbed her hand tightly for her complete attention. With his hands on hers, there was very little she could concentrate on. She turned to him, "What are you doing Raman?" And he replied, "utto...aur yahaan beito"
"huh???kyun?"
Her question angered him more and he almost yelled but in a low voice, "iss chote se dimaag ko zyaadha use matth karo...just do what i say..."
In a quick action, he literally pulled her away from that seat and sat there instead. She had no choice but move and sit on his seat. In the darkness, all she could do was silently fume for whatever he was doing and term it as unreasonable.
Ishita didn't know what Raman did after the switching of seats but during interval, the other guy got up from his seat and walked away giving weird looks at Raman and Ishita. He never returned to his seat after that.
Ishita now sensed what was really happening. She couldn't stop grinning at Raman's behaviour but she was silent and didn't dare to ask him about it till the movie was over.
That same evening they had to return back home as Ishita had some important appointments which she couldn't postpone.
All along the drive, she was dying to ask him about the incident at the theatre. Finally he hissed in frustration at her stealing glances at him and enquired, "kuch poochna chahti ho toh poocho...aise gurrne se koyi jawaab nahi milega"
"haan...nahi matlab nahi..."
Her confusion tempted him to taunt her again, "tumaare dictionary mein sab matlab ulta hai kya? Kahaan se kareedha aisa bhakwaas dictionary?"
She stared at him for the untimely joke, "bohat puraana joke tha..."
Raman: "toh?"
"Toh bilkul maza nahi aaya" her reply pushed him to taunt again but she snapped him short, "woh theatre mein aisa weird kyun behave kiya?? Why did you shift the seats? And what did you do to that guy? Bechaara aisa kyun bhaag gaya?"
"woh bechaara tumaare saath badtameezi kar raha tha..."
She looked at him inquiringly as she hadn't even noticed anything while he snapped her words, "tumhe toh banak tak nahi hui...tumaare bass chale toh uss film ke andar chalke beit thi...tumhe aas paas ka koyi khabar nahi..."
She questioned immediately, "aap ko kaise patha? maine toh kuch nahi dekha..."
He just blurted out in impulse, "main toh dekh raha tha na..."
He closed his eyes realizing his slip and his words ceased while she chuckled, "matlab aap mujhe dekh rahe teh"
He immediately found the damage control in Ruhi, "In your dreams madam...main tumhe nahi Ruhi ko dekh raha tha...usse paani chahiye thi aur usske Ishima toh film ke andar thi...accha hua mere nazar padhi warna na jaane woh ladka kya kya kartha...aur kahaan kahaan touch kartha"
The last part never voiced out of his mouth but just muttered in his own head. He was plain angry at the thought of another guy gazing at his wife and touching her.
Ishita didn't take that explanation as she knew that she wasn't so engrossed and she knew every move of Ruhi so well that she was confident that she wouldn't slip away in her duties but she didn't probe more as she knew that Raavan kumar would never agree to any of it. She felt good just with the realization that Raman was protective and possessive over her to this extent.
The day ended with the sweet memories being narrated to the family and Ishita proposing a picnic again with the entire family. Raman silently retired to the room after dinner. He really wanted to speak to Ishita but he was so exhausted after the drive that he fell asleep the moment he hit the bed.
Ishita covered him with the duvet and also switched off the TV and the lights before retiring to the couch.
A new day and both Ishita, Raman had the unique ability of painting their slates afresh as if nothing unusual happened and everything was as before. They behaved normal like Raavan and Jhansi ki rani or probably it was a mere pretence of indifference owing to their own egos. Or perhaps ignorance to their growing feelings and myriad emotions for each other!
Ishita had to leave her car at the work shop owing to some repair work and then went to the clinic. She had a lot of appointments lined up since she was on leave the previous day.
The day passed by smoothly...
It was almost closing time for Ishita and she was about to step out when Sarika barged in with something important. "Mam, Dr Bhatra called up...he is held up in something important...he was asking if you could handle his appointments for today..."
Ishita pouted first at the thought of staying back as she had promised Ruhi that she will be home soon but the doctor in her knew that it was her duty and she nodded. Sarika added, "zyaadha nahi hai...bass dho teen urgent appointments hai...He asked me to postpone the others to tomorrow"
Ishita nodded, "No problem Sarika...send them in after 5 minutes"
She took a deep breath and went back to her seat. She had a tough task of calling Ruhi and cajoling her. Once that was done, she was about to ring the bell to Sarika when Raman called.
He didn't wait for hello's and hi's but just spoke, "Ishita, tumaari car workshop mein hai na? I am coming to pick you up"
She cut him short, "hello Raman...listen...I have a few more urgent appointments...it might take a hour or so...dont worry...main rickshaw se aa jaavungi..."
Raman was annoyed by her formality and also her usual excuse of urgent appointments. He often wondered what was so urgent in pulling out teeth. "Agar kal kiya toh marr thodi na jaayenge...aise urgency dikaathi hai jaise koyi heart specialist ho!"
Here he was concerned for her and offering her lift and madam was conveniently avoiding him. It sort of irked him and he replied, "koyi zaroorat nahi...I will come after an hour..."
Ishita nodded knowing that there was no use arguing with Raavan Kumar. Offlate he was becoming overly protective for her and there was nothing she could do to stop him.
An hour later, Raman parked the car in front of her clinic and took out his mobile to call her. That's when he saw her stepping out and there was a guy with her. He scrutinized his eyes to know who it was and he realized it was none other than Subbu
"Toh yeh tha madam ka urgent appointment...ho bhi kyun na ho...aakir pehla pyar jo tehra..."
His insecurity and possessiveness reflected in his mind thoughts and he kept glaring at the duo. He pretended that nothing affects him and said to himself, "Let her do what she wants...mujhe kya farq padtha hai..."
Instantly, he reasoned and battled back his own thoughts and then all of a sudden snapped out of his laid back attitude, "farq kyun nahi padega...biwi hai meri...mujhe farq nahi padega toh kisse padega?"
He instantly pulled out his phone and called her. He could see her casually pulling out the mobile from her hand bag. He smacked her for the slow casual attitude and the moment she took the call, he spoke up,"Jaldi aa jaao...I can't wait long..."
"huh?" she looked at the phone in confusion. She muttered slowly, "Typical Raavan Kumar...naah hello naah hi..."
She just hummed into the phone and cut the call. His eyes were fixed on them and he could see that his wife and Subbu were again talking something casually and she smiled at what Subbu said.
Then Subbu laughed at some reply that Ishita gave. Raman's blood boiled in rage wondering what they were talking. He was quite curious to know what made her smile, what she commented that made Subbu laugh etc etc. In short he wanted to know the entire commentary of what was happening. He saw her bidding bye to Subbu and walking towards the parking lot. She had a sweet smile playing on her lips as she walked closer. He wanted to know the reason for that smile as well. Was it for Subbu? Or was it for him?
Curiousity killed him and he wished to know it all but he didn't know how to find out.
[To be continued]
Precap:
Raman: tum khush ho iss shaadi se?
Ishita looked at him intently trying to find reasons for this sudden question from his side. His question only gave rise to the same question in her mind which she didn't delay in asking him, "Kya aap khush hai mujh se, iss shaadi se?"
