I have been finding that as of late, Punjabi's are shown as ill mannered, illiterate and low class in the show

This can be seen through Toshi's beh'r, Simi, Romi and Raman..the only respectable man is Mr. Bhalla

Raman has such a bitter tongue..it doesnt suit someone who is a CEO in the business world

Toshi and Simi...they are always shown putting down people and swearing

In contrast you have Ishita's family aka Madrassi

Aside from Bala's mom, everyone is shown as educated, respectful and intelligent

Both Bala and his wife have good jobs and are well educated

Mrs. Iyer is shown a bit emotional but not as crass as Toshi Ji. Mr. Iyer is the same as Mr. Bhalla..shown as calm cool and collected

Is this on purpose??

Ekta, being a punjabi herself I believe, is showing her own people in such a bad light??

Why is this?

Am I the only noticing this ? Its getting worse actually

Yes actually I'm seeing that too. I don't understand the purpose of it.
Everyone's getting angry at the way the Bhalla family says "Madrasan" yet no one seems to realize that the show itself is portraying the Bhallas (Punjabis) not the Iyers (Madrasans?) in a bad light. Is there a reason to make everyone that is negative in the show a punjabi? aren't ashok and shagun also Punjabi? As is Parmeet? Not one character (besides Bala's mom but she isn't shown that often) who is negative is a "Madrasan".

In general if CVs could tone all the hatred down and the crashness it would make the show even better. Personally I have not found Raman to be too offensive (mainly because he is slowly changing and I hope that he continues to evolve) but the rest need to cool off a little.

I agree dear. whole family is shown in bad light. only mr. bhalla and ruhi are kept as exceptional case. and on other side whole family is shown in bright light leaving mother in low of vandu. i dun understand this difference

Is it not true? The crime rates in the north which includes Punjab are much more than they are in the south.

Iyers are quite timid people compatred to brave punjabis.

When it comes to armed forces, no one can beat punjabis.

They are brave and courageous.

This really isnt about who is better

My comment is more about these silly stereotypes that Ekta is feeding off of

She needs to show a balance between both cultures and families

Every culture has its good and bad

Here all she shows is bad for the Bhalla's and good for the Iyer's

Dont take it too seriously. It is all fun. I love Bhallas more though they are not as good as iyers.

Without boisterous bhallas, the show will lose its steam.

I don't mind the addressing as Madrassan and Punjabis... they want to show the difference in a humorous light but what I minded was how Raman answered the phone in the hospital when Ishita called. He said Jhahil sth... that is not the way to address any woman let alone his wife. He could have said something harsh like Shut up and don't call me again. But for no reason to say that was a little too much.
But even after all this, this is the only serial I watch. I love Raman and Ishita and the concept of second chance in love. Was tired of the mushy love stories of staring and falling. This show also has the same Hindi serial ingredients but I love the wit and humor here. The usp here is the love for a child.
Is there any other serial you can recommend watching which is going on now? The last I watched was Iss Pyar Ko (arnav/Khushi).
thanks.

Tumhari Paakhi on Life OK is great

she is not your typical heroine..who cries and slaves after a guy

her character is strong and does not take any shit from her husband or anyone really

Veera is awesome as well

Shows Punjabi's in a NORMAL light ..as everyday hard working people with a few bad seeds
