Fabulous and well-needed post AshRun.
I know the history of Ekta's serials and I have been dissapointed in the past as well, but in this serial in addition to doing what does extremely well (Choos great actors, creatic epic couples etc).
She has chosen a mature story with potential, depicting real, flawed characters, with fabulous dialogues, and humour. They have given many content packed episodes. Often I have noticed that I have only finished watching a rivetting first part (10 minutes) and I am surprised there is still another 10 minutes to go.
Credit goes to her and the writers for not overstepping ugly or uncomfortable issues. They are stepping out of their comfort zone with the 11pm slot and they are going to make some mistakes.
In this story we have a hero who pre-judges other from his past experiences and not from a fresh in the moment perspective relaticve to the actual situation at hand. he is critiscised for this.
So when we pre-judge Ekta from her past serials are we not doing the same. She has grown as a producer and director and it shows.
I have seen many post bashing ekta or moaning about Ekta when things in the serial didn't go the way we want them to but rarely do we see posts praising her when she does something well. She and the writer have written plenty of surprise that were way bigger, better and more impactful than the ones we wanted. Don't get me wrong I have bemoaned Ekta myself in the past when watching PR. Is there room for improvement, sure.
The writers know what they want to do and where they want to go with the script. They are running a daily soap and have to keep the plot going in a way that engages viewers.
We are not going to like everything the Director/writers do but as long as the overall plot maintains a high quality, they derve that respect and leeway. After all it is their show and viewers have plenty of choices of what to watch or not.
I just re-read the synopsis of the show:
"Moving away from the genre of a typical romance, Ye Hai Mohabbatein showcases mature love in a very unique manner and deals with societal issues that people are reluctant to face or discuss. This is the story of Raman and Ishita who are connected by their common love for little Ruhi."
In my mind she and the writers have remained true to this synopsis overall perspective
