Why

She was running. She was scared. She didn't know when she entered there.

It was midnight. The moon was shining. But there were many trees. Some places were quite dark. There she met him. She had heard a lot about him, but never met him. "Yes, it's him", she thought.

Suddenly she felt even more scared.

"May I ask you for something?", she asked hesitantly. "Why not?", said he. She stammered "Actually,.....I.....have heard....that it's not right....to ask you for....anything."

He grinned. The moonlight fell on his face. She looked at him wonderstruck. It reminded her of lightning piercing dark clouds. For a moment she forgot what was scaring her.

The smile, it contained a sense of familiarity. He knew her, her quirks all too well. She could not remember meeting him before, yet felt welcome, felt familiar.

Before she could say a word, she began to tremble in fear. All this while, she was running in fear. She could not feel the full extent of fear then. Now with him beside her, the fear threatened to consume her. She clung to him in fear.

The warmth of his touch made her cry. So many questions, so much anger made her speechless.

He sat down there on dust, took her head on his lap and began to caress her forehead. The tears from her nose was making his cloth dirty. Slowly she fell asleep.

In the morning, she woke up in his lap. His hands were swollen with insect bites. Yet no insect had touched her. She looked at him with moist eyes, as if wanting to ask "Why did you tolerate so much?"

He looked straight at her eyes. His mesmerizing eyes were mesmerized. He began playing with a strand of her hair and whispered "Because you matter to me.".

At midnight

The moonlight falls on her face

Like dews.

Her heart emits

From its depth

The venom of life.

Her roots

Are deep in the earth,

Yet the silent dark midnight sky

Looks for love

At her lips.

Irony

What is this place?

This is so beautiful.

Look at the ground!

As far as I can see,

There are white flowers.

I will sleep here, okay?

Look at the tree,

Its branches, so many flowers!

The flowers have fallen on my hair

Like ornaments.

This light yellow saree with red border

That I am wearing....

Oh Dear!!

I want to say,

"Thank you!".

But as you know,

I am ungrateful.

In this life

I will never say,

"Thank you!".

Instead, let me irritate you.

Wait, I will tickle your feet.

This place is beautiful,

But one thing is missing.

I want to splash

Some mud on your face

But I can't find mud here.

"Don't irritate me.

If I splash mud on your face

You won't be able to tolerate it."

Yes, I will scream in pain,

You will try your best to soothe me,

I will cry,

I will become numb.

I will hurt you violently.

Blood from your wounds

Will redden this

Almost white saree.

Then I will look like,

Look like.....

Have you seen a street dog

Killed by a vehicle?

"Calm down dear,

Calm down,

You are with me."

Dearest,

Why don't thoughts of violence

Leave me

Even when

I am in your arms?!

******************************

As I say this,

Tears trickle down

From your eyes

On my hair.

Weed

The weed that has no right to live

Still wants to live.

The weed deserves to die.

For that very reason

It continues to live,

While the flowering plants wither.

I agree vyapti

All living creatures are made by nature be it flowering plant or non flowering one .

We call it a weed because it's undesired by us humans ... but it also has microscopic flowers which bees and other creatures must be visiting that's why iys thriving n multiplying despite humans trying to weed it out .

It's a creation n deserves its place in nature ... whether humans want it or not makes little difference to mother nature .

Agree, every living organism, not just human beings, has a destiny which it must fulfill, well- said and adore the short poem too!👏. Man in his arrogance decides to make or break an organism's destiny but each speck not just organism will run its pre-ordained course!!

All these poems are real gems, Vyapti.❤️🤗❤️

A true quiver from an aching heart, which define the real meaning of pain.

Great way of expression.⭐️

When I wrote it, I was thinking about the people who face social ridicule because of being 'different'. That is what made me write this.

Your reply made me think in a different way. 💚💚💚
