It always go like that.Bharat Bhaiya and Mandavi Di will always be each other's eternal support, unsaid, unexpressed.
And Ma will always know when her children'll be needing her.
"Janu, come" her mother smiled at her. Janani followed her warily. She had learned to be wary of that sweet nature of her mother. Her heart sank. She saw her father's friend Srivatsan and his family seated there.
"Hello, Janani" said Srivatsan Uncle, smiling.
"Hello Uncle. How are you?" They exchanged brief pleasantries, before Preethi Aunty spoke
"Child, I know, that it isn't easy for you, but, Siddhanth realizes he made a mistake and wants to know your answer this time around."
Janani tried to calm the fire in her as she prepared her answer. But before she could retort, her mother had said her bit.
"Of course, Preethi Manni," she said. "There is no question of saying no. Sid is a wonderful boy, and would be perfect with Janani."
"Am.." The word of protest died on her lips. She stood there, shocked, as the others spoke. A shudder ran through, the thought of belonging to someone who wasn't her Arya Bharat wrecking her on the inside. She felt a pulse of irritation and wave of possessiveness wash over her, and knew he wasn't happy with it either.
She felt his presence with her the entire day that day. Her Arya was with her, watching, and protecting her. As was her Pa. She didn't talk much, even to Sapna and Vikram and went about her stuff quietly. She had spoken to her uncle and he didn't want it, but what could he do?
"Janani! Are you ready or not? They will be here soon!" shouted her mother from the living room.
"Coming Amma! I am just changing." She sighed as she got into something more appropriate' her mother had picked for her.
She sighed as she checked the messages on her phone. Dharani, Saransh Bhaiyya. Wait, what? Bhaiyya never- oh, it was the group. She opened the chat. This place, this small 4 inch screen felt more like home than anything else. She loved chatting on the computer with her friends, or even on her phone.
She didn't have the time to reply then. Hurriedly closing the chat, she got up and got ready. She hated this. Hated being shown off to him as a trophy, an award. Something that was on display. She went out into the living room.
Siddhanth and his parents were seated. She was about to talk to them on her mother's glare, when the phone rang. It was Vikram.
"Hi, Jan."
"Vik," she said, thanking her lucky stars.
"Did you get back okay?"
"I did, Vik. Vik, keep talking," she added, in a low voice, hoping he'd get it. Thankfully, he didn't ask why. She was hoping her best friend would get her out of this. She prayed to her Pa, Rudra Bhaiya, Bhabhi Ma, her Ma, all of them, that this thing fizzled out soon. She hung up with Vikram, but almost immediately the phone rang again.
It was Ankit. She felt the rage bubble up in her Arya. She felt his hand slipping through hers, squeezing her own reassuringly. She didn't want to talk to Ankit, but her mother had answered it and knew who it was, so there was no escaping this.
