He walked the road to his house in pitch dark. Being called for work at odd times had become a habit for him and his wife. But this time the work was unexpected.

"Brother he is an old acquaintance.", Embre informed Kerim.
" But I can't work late night. Try to understand. No one is at home. They have gone for some work at our place. I can't leave fatmagul alone. Try to understand. ", Kerim tried to convince his friend.
"I have already given a word to them. They must be waiting for you."
"In that case you should have asked me. Am not refusing the work. Instead am unhappy with the timings"
"I totally understand brother. But they have a party this weekend and they decided this on the last moment. Plus I know nobody better for the furniture carpentry than you. I saw the dining table at your house. Apa told me how much hard you worked for it. I must say your hands know magic. Please don't deny the offer. The money is also good. If you have any doubts let me ask Fatmagul. I know she wouldn't mind."
Before Kerim could stop him, they heard fatmagul's voice as Embre switched on the speaker mode.
"I have no issues. Its totally fine. Don't worry about me"
The call got disconnected.
"See I told you. There won't be any problem."
"But this is the last time Embre."
"You say this every time Kerim. And you go my way always", Embre grinned.
" Am serious this time", Kerim patted him on his shoulder.
He proceeded to his work leaving behind a confused soul.

His car was at the garage with major issues. Kerim had no option than walk the whole distance with doubts, fears and anxiety in his mind.
"What must be she doing? Is she fine? Should I call her? How long will I take to reach? Will she be waiting for me?", Kerim's mind was flooded with such thoughts.
" Hello. Didn't you sleep?", Kerim asked Fatmagul.
After failed attempts, the call connected when he dialled third time.
"No. Am waiting for you", she replied.
" Are you scared?"
"Yes. A bit."
"I'll be there in 15 minutes"
"Its too late"
"Am almost there. Lock the doors carefully. I have a bunch of keys, so you needn't worry. Switch off the lights. I don't want unwanted visitors. You may never know."
His words were followed by an eerie silence. Both recalled what shouldn't have been. Both felt what they longed to forget.
The call ended and Kerim walked putting his hands in the pockets of his jeans. The memories made him shiver.
As he reached the junction and waited for the signal, he heard a noise, rather a woman's scream.
He looked around to find the source but was greeted by failure.
He resumed his walk when he again heard a scream. He moved in circles searching for the voice.
The noise guided him towards a garden. Four men were behind a girl who supposedly ran for her life. One of the well built person held her tight and pushed her on the ground while the other grabbed her and stuffed his kerchief in her mouth. Her voice choked in the throat. Kerim witnessed the horrifying scene with naked eyes. Too shocked to move, his lips quivered, his eyes brimming with tears, he tried to stop them by pulling his hand out and yelled
"Stop!!! Leave her"
But Alas!! He couldn't hear his own voice. He felt his voice choking and hand shivering.
He opened his eyes to find himself surrounded with familiar faces.
He felt dizzy. His head was spinning. He inched up a little to take a look at his surroundings.
"How are you?", he heard her voice and she stood beside his bed with their little one in her arms.
"Where am I?", he was perplexed.
" Hospital"
"But why? What happened?", he was scared.
" Kerim a couple found you in the garden as you laid unconscious.", Maryam told him.
"But I was all fine till that..."
"Till what?", Muqaddas quipped.
" Let him rest", Fatmagul eyed her scornfully.
"What did I do? I asked a general question.", Muqaddas stomped off shaking her boobs.
"Is this the place to dance?", Maryam taunted her..
"Is this the place to taunt?", Muqaddas gave her a mean look.
" Hopeless ", Maryam shook her head in disbelief.
" I'll go and see her", Rehmi walked out to his wife.
"Its good that Kerim is back to his senses", the doctor entered...
After some general enquiries the doctor asked Maryam to accompany him for the details of medicines.
Embre followed them.
" Will you tell me now, what happened?", Fatmagul caressed his hair.
"How's Hayat? She must have slept the time I called you yesterday", Kerim smiled as he rubbed the toddler's feet.
" Yeah she slept peacefully. That's the reason she's so fresh after meeting you.", Fatmagul smiled.
"Excuse me. I have to check his blood pressure", the nurse signalled Fatmagul for space.
Fatmagul stepped aside with her baby as the younger one pulled her hair for fun.
" Ouch!!!!", Fatmagul shrieked in pain, tears rolling down her cheeks.
"Your Bp is normal sir"
"But what had happened to me?"
"Nothing Sir. It was just a high blood pressure case. But as you were found unconscious in the garden, you'll have to undergo alcohol test. Though we have sent your blood test details with an appropriate certificate to the police station, they may come for general enquiry."
"But test reports are enough aren't they?", Fatmagul interrupted.
" Yeah usually they are, but we can't say anything about them. Don't worry mam things are normal."
"So nothing happened last night?", Kerim asked curiously.
" What didn't happen? Were you expecting anything to happen?", Fatmagul confused with his talks counter questioned him.
