Walking past the lush green gardens of the NUL, she was feeling every single cell of her body being cleared off from clogging. It was beautiful weather ' after a long period of mist and fog, today finally it was a sunny day.
Bright sunshine spread out , illuminating every single particle within her reach of sight. She walked inside with pride and confidence, rushing up the stairs; she reached the wooden door with the reading
Zeeshan Ali
Coordinator research program ' English Literature.
Ignoring the slight rush of blood she knocked the door, she was amazed at how powerful an impact did his name had.
Slowly sliding the door, she found Zeeshan in the similar position she found him last time, hidden behind a journal.
"may I come in ..", she wanted to add "SIR", but couldn't ' why? .. well .. ummm .
"Maheen!! ", his voice was vibrant and it automatically lead the facial muscles of maheen to curve , which in normal language lead to a smile. "please come in!", he stood from his seat , as maheen walked in,
'good morning .. " .. she again couldn't add sir!.
"good morning, please have a seat", he gestured her to sit down, and as she did, he took his seat.
"thank you", she said, being amazed at the softness of her own voice.
"so how are you this morning?", he asked placing his journal away, "very fine, thank you",
"so two weeks!!, long time hun?", he asked leaning a bit on the table and maheen felt as if he entered her soul through those eyes. 'long time?, two weeks isn't a long time!", she replied against her conscious.
"hmmm, ",he skeptically observed her expressions, relaxing back on his seat, "I was talking that weren't two weeks a long time for you to complete your reading?'
Tables turned! ' his remark was followed by a smile and maheen felt defeated, "I don't understand this twisted talk, I have done my work", she immediately took out her books from her bag and smacked on the table, while zeeshan was smiling at her fury, "I have highlighted all the quotations I felt were important and I have also skimmed through his biography and made notes", she said placing a pile of some printed papers on the desk, "what do I have to do next?', she said exhaling air.
"how did u find D.H Lawernce", his question was no where near to what she asked, getting confused for a moment, she answered, "very vivid"
'in spite of the fact that all his characters are confused!"
"yes!, there confusion is what is written vividly, It feels as visual experience."
"good!, how did u find Paul Morel ' the protagonist of Sons and Lovers?, he asked taking out a notepad and maheen re-collected some thoughts in her mid.
"unfortunate", she said normally and zeeshan raised his eyes from the paper.
"you think Paul was unfortunate?, having so many chances for love he was unfortunate?", he sounded amazed.
"but none of that love was for him, it was all forbidden , the forbidden love, all three women in his life were never able to give him what he wanted."
"Is love about just looking for what you want?', he asked, now closing his pen and looking at maheen intently.
"I don't know, but unless you don't feel that you are happy with the person, how can you love the person?', she asked, with confusion pouring out from her eyes.
"Paul was happy with three of them , he was happy with his mother, he was happy with marim, he was happy with Clara, he was! right?",., zeeshan countered her argument and maheen again went back to the lines in the book,
"yes he was, but .. but there was something that kept him bound, he tried to complete himself in all the three women and
"and ended up being failed, because he never wanted to be complete", he completed her sentence and maheen was startled,
"yes, bcz if he would have wanted to then he wouldn't have refused maruim, he would have..
"exactly, he would have moved on!, but he never tried"
"but you can't fall in love with trying , it has to come natural"
"it comes natural, then you close your minds and then you refuse to accept every natural instinct", He ended his statement with a sweet smile,
"but it wasn't Paul's fault., he had seen a horrendous marriage of his parents, how could someone accept him to be normal in issues of love', maheen added her inner most feeling , and there zeeshan noticed a twinkling pearl in her eyes and at the moment realized what his her problem.
"I agree, but he got enough chances,"
'maybe, but in the end he decided to stay alone, maybe that was his best companion, living alone, shattered people like them can never built a relationship, bcz a relationship demands sharing of love, and a person hungry of love cannot share love, he just demands love, and demanding kills a relation.", she opened her eyes wide to give enough space to dwelling tears so they don't roll down on her cheeks.
"but what if a person hungry of love founds a fountain of love?"
"hunger of love is destructive, the fountain will get drained!", she replied with a defeated expression and Zeeshaan got up from his seat and came and sat on the seat right opposite her,
"maheen you need to understand that why couldn't Paul move on, bcz both the girls, - mirium and Clara had their own drawbacks, they weren't fountains of love", he said looking in her eyes and maheen was waiting him to elaborate, " Miruim was too spiritual to give all his love to Paul, while Clara had a past, her husband, both those girls were themselves incomplete, Paul wanted a complete person, without any holes,", zeeshan said, capturing her eyes with his'
"so the ending is optimistic?, the fact that he left those girls and decided to stay alone?", she questioned further.
"yes!, it is!!, atleast he realized that both those girls will never be able to keep him happy, he moved away from them, he will be alone, but he will be away from all the mental trauma, he realized the difference maheen ' the difference that he didn't LOVE any of them", and again he smiled looking in her eyes which lead the tear flow down her cheek .
"can this realization come after 15 years of a relation?", she asked innocently and for a moment zeeshan was taken a back, but that innocence in her eyes made his heart melt, "it can, It can strike at any moment, maheen companionship is a very delusional emotion, sometimes we think lust and infatuation as love, and sometimes love as just attraction, it is complicated, very complicated"
"then how do we find real love?", she asked, still her eyes entangled within his', and this time zeeshan couldn't help placing his hand over her delicate hand , which was resting on the table,
"you don't need to find love , it'll find you.."
