Abhimanyu was rather killed in a one to one combat(after ofcourse having been disarmed by a group attack) with a character whose name is never mentioned

He was killed by Dusshasan's son

I didn't understand this story though so if Karna left then why would the war stop? Baaki log nhi ladenge

@b: exactly, till Bhishm was alive Karna didnt participated in war anyway.

So Karna had broken his friendship with Duryodhan after what he did to Draupadi after DyutSabha. Post that he was just Duryodhana's henchman(from his side Duryodhana still called him Mitra)

As Kusum said in other post, he used to foil every plan of Duryodhana to save Pandavas (Even Duryodhana knew that Karna isn't supporting him but he still told everything to Karna because he felt that he lost his friend by hiding his DS and VH plan so he can't do that again) so Karna calls Duryodhana as Yuvaraj and Duryodhana calls Karna as Mitra

Khair so then marriage of Lakshmana and Samb happens. Duryodhana blesses the girl and leaves (he doesn't want to bow to Krishna like normally the bride's father does to groom's Father). Instead Karna goes to Krishna bows to Him saying that Lakshmana is like his own daughter so please care for her etc. Lakshmana then comes to him before parting and both of them cry. Then Lakshmana says "Kakashree main ja rahi hoon, mujhe bhent nhi doge(kya faltu ka fake daanveer tha SPK waala Karna yaar like uski beti type ladki ki shaadi thi and he didn't even think of getting a gift by himself)"

Karna says he can give his everything to Lakshmana since she is very dear to him (to Bhai khud se gift le aata). Lakshmana says "main jaanti hoon mere jaane k baad pitashree nirasha me chale jaayenge, unko aapki avashyakta hai(haan beta badi fikra hai Pita ki, 2 din pehle apni shaadi ke announcement baad ghar se bhag rahi thi, kitna naam hota usse pita ka) aap unhe mere liye kshama kar dein." Karna agrees to her and assures her.

Meanwhile Shakuni wanted Duryodhana to go to Krishna and ask for his support in war since now they are relatives, Duryodhana however was denying. Both him and Dusshasan were repeatedly requesting him but of no avail. Tab Karna aata hai and they ask him to convince Duryodhana. He says that he has seen Arjun having left for Dwarika and if he reaches first, they will get Dwarika's support, so Duryodhana should immediately leave, but again Duryodhana denies seeking any help from Krishna. All start pestering him, while doing that Karna says Srikrishna ki humein avashyakta hai, meri baat maaniye mitra"

And Duryodhana immediately caught the word. He said "tumne mujhe Mitra kaha, aaj itne varshon baad tumne mujhe Mitra kaha. Ab main tumhaari kisi baat ko nhi taalonga. Main avashya jaunga Krishna ki sahayta maangne...."

So Duryodhana didn't go to ask for support for winning the war, but because Karna had called him Mitra and in such a happy day , he couldn't have denied any request made to him.
