Good morning everyone. 😃
I wanted to write this short note after reading posts here. The Poongodi-Karthik-Saravanan topic has attracted lots of controversy and heated arguments but I dont want to bring it up again. However I do feel that too much focus has been given to this plot to the extent that other plots have been forgotten or downgraded. I feel that this is not just unfair to the VR team but to the actors who play other roles (leaving Radhikaa out of this). Views were expressed that the serial is deteriorating or becoming another of Sun TV serials which I dont agree with.
There are other plots that are interesting. Unfortunately these plots have been overwhelmed by the PKS saga. Right now for example one of the stories is how Surya and Gowtham, with the guidance of Swamy, are helping to bring their father's business back to the top. A few months ago, viewers were raising the concern why young people in VR were vetti pasanga (other than Rajesh and Selvi), especially Surya and Gaitham. The plot also focuses on an increasingly dominant role for Swamy, which I welcome. I think Prithivee along with Venu Arvind are strong pillars of VR and I look forward to more screen time for them.
Gowtham - Pooja-Kathir : again this is also another plot which has potential. Pooja's character is not universally approved but then again very rarely this happens. Some friends suggested that Vani Bhojan be a partner for Gowtham but I for one dont like Vani Bhojan. So you cant please all the people all the time. I believe Pooja's character needs warming up to and like all characters in Vani Rani, she too has a purpose. I for one want to see where this goes.
Rajesh-Selvi-Shiva. A serial wont be a serial without sensational topics/plots. Shiva is a psycho. We are not supposed to like him. Do people like exist in real life? Yes, they do. and before I forget...Nilambari in Padayappa, anyone?
Finally, Vani Rani is not the same as other serials. The dialogues for one. Pa Raghavan has gems for every single episode - whether to make us laugh or make us think or make us cry. Do you know what a relief it is for me to watch a serial that does not have "Nee nasama pove?" "Nee mannoda pove" "Vaiyire erinju solluren nee urupada matte/nalla irukku matte!!"? I am thinking of doing a collection of quotes, that is how much I appreciate the dialogues. Which is why I dont forward any segment, because there is always something special/unique being said. Yesterday, in 424 for example, in the segment between Rajesh, Selvi and Shiva, at 13.20 Rajesh says something interesting - ahem - - about a certain member of this fanpage.
The commitment shown by director ON Rathnam and his team. Not only characters are introduced, but a lot of thought and care has gone into the shaping of those characters. Their likes, dislikes, positives, negatives...everything that gives life to fictitious characters. No kandravi or kevalam stories - eg everyone thought there will be a miscarriage for Selvi like every other serial but no it was indeed different - that makes our stomachs curdle. No sexual harassment, attempted rape, molestation, degrading of women, making men crass, crude, sexist morons - except Arumugam who bashed Malathi in one episode and has been bashed by the whole world and their wives since. LOL.
Acting. I dare anyone of you to find fault in the acting of the cast. Radhikaa, Venu, Prithiviraj. Junior artistes such as Maha Lakshmi, Rajkumar Manoharan - absolute revelation with the way they expressed themselves.. Rajkumar in the past few episodes has excelled. Guhan Shanmugam - the easy come easy go but don't overstep the limit type of guy, Vicky Krish - the angry bird in pink. 😆.Arun Kumar Rajan, Murali Krish to provide the laughs, which can be difficult since they are not comedians in the strictest sense.
And then there is Radhikaa...lately she has not been in the episodes for longer than a couple of minutes but the minute she comes on she just stands out. She lights up the screen. Seriously this lady is going from strength to strength. All the disappointment, frustration and indifference I felt post-Chitty era has been eradicated by her performances in VR. How many times we must have searched for one twin when the other twin is on the screen, completely forgetting that it is the same person? How many times tears welled up in our eyes when we watched either one of them (or both) suffering? Or we laugh at their reactions? Or we share their anxieties, their fears, their sadness? See, I am talking about them as if they are two different people...and indeed Radhikaa has portrayed them such a way. The way they smile, talk, cry...even when she is Rani pretending to be Vani, we all know that it is Rani...
When the Rs were rocking it in cine world - Radha, Radhikaa, Revathy, Rohini - Revathy was my absolute favourite.
No longer.
So let us enjoy the serial and go with the flow.
