Uma Toshniwal had been brought up in a small tribe, one that taught you one main rule of life and that was to love, love with all your heart. They were taught that you should always be wary, always be on the look out for the one your heart calls out for.

Uma was 30 years old, most people he lived with had found their love between the ages of 20-25, yet here he was, 30 years old and lonely. His Maasa would always say to keep hope and remain resilient because in time she would come, but Uma had enough of waiting, he was going to look for her, there was only so much you could leave up to fate.

Kanak stretched her arms and yawned, yet another day of college, standing up she walked to the window, she looked outside at the busy town and couldnt help but feel unlucky, if she had it her way she would live in a remote place, near mountains, the only sounds available would be nature, but she was greatful for all she had, one day, she would leave this busy town

Kanak arrived at college about an hour later, she drowned out the head teachers speech about the visit from the aryuvedic doctor, that wasnt her interest and she never could understand how that was a profession anyone would ever wish to do, she shuddered at the thought of blood and turned to her friend

"We are looking for a house for the ayurvedic doctor Uma to stay at" Kanak crossed her fingers, she hoped her brother would not offer their home
"Sir, I offer my own house" shouted Ved
Kanak looked down in embarassment, Ved always the goody two shoes of the family had to invite the stranger to stay at her home

Uma stepped foot in the busy town, narrowly missing a car he jumped to the side and the beep of the horn made his head spin, he was struggling to understand why anyone would want to live in such a busy place

"Mr Toshniwal"
Uma turned to see a man about 20 years older than him, waving, he put his hand out and Uma just stared at it strangely and put his hands together
Mr Gupta copied him and smiled

"Let me take you to the Rathi house where you will be staying"
Uma allowed him to lead the way and followed

Santosh ran around trying to ensure the house was clean for their new guest, "Kanak, dont sit on that sofa, ive just fluffed those pillows"
Kanak jumped up and mock saluted "Bhaboo, I didnt know the King was visiting"
Santosh's glare shut Kanak up as the doorbell rung

After welcoming Uma in, Kanak smiled, her friends were right, Uma was very good looking, she waved at him and he smiled back, walking over to him she took the time to properly take him in, "Since you are a new teacher at my college, do I have to call you sir" she winked

Uma inhaled, what was that smell? It was calming to the senses and made him feel at home. He raised his brow "No, you can call me Uma, do you have something in your eye"
Kanak huffed, clearly he was not interested in her, "My name is Kanak, its nice to meet you"

Santosh ran over "Can I get you something to drink, maybe some tea"
He lowered himself, taking her blessings "I dont drink tea, its bad for the health" he smiled, Kanak's eyes widened, what kind of man was he, not drinking tea? She had no idea how he survived

Kanak didnt realise she had spoken out loud, when Uma turned to her and raised his brow again. "Kanak take Uma to his room"
Kanak turned and began to walk upstairs, Uma followed behind, it seemed the scent was coming from Kanak, it was a huge assault to his senses, but in the good way, intoxicating him further as he neared her

"So, this is your room, my room is next door, so if you need anything please dont hesitate to ask"
"Wait, I dont know whats around here, I would love it if you could show me around"
Kanak smiled uneasily "Well of course, its just a busy city, im personally not a fan of it, I mean, its beautiful in its own way, but I enjoy the quiet life"

"Me to" he whispered as she walked away

Kanak was sat on the roof, basking in the light from the stars and moon and sipping on her tea, she enjoyed being alone, a good book in her hand and her tea and she was gone to the world, she enjoyed being in her own space, dreaming of the future she always hoped one day she would have the chance to have

"Mind if I join" Uma asked
Kanak opened her eyes and nodded, sliding over so Uma could sit down
"Do you enjoy being alone"
"Very much so, what about you"
Uma shook his head "Ive spent 30 years alone, I wish to find someone to spend my life with"

"Is that why you have come here"
"Thats the main reason, but I also wish to teach people about how good aryuvedic medicine can be"
"In a big city like this, do you really think you will find the woman you want"
Uma smiled, he wouldnt say anything yet, but in his eyes, he already had, he just had to make sure

"Ill take my chances, so you read books"
Kanak nodded, her eyes lit with glee "Yes, I do, do you"
Uma smiled "Not usually, but I think it could be something I enjoy"
Kanak passed him her book "Here, take it as a welcoming present"

Standing up she bid him a goodnight and walked away
Uma looked at the book in his hand and smiled
