Tussauds comes to Mumbai

Ashwini Deshmukh and Kunal M Shah

Indians need not worry about going all the way to London to watch their favourite personalities carved in a wax figure. James Bradbury, director of Madam Tussauds in London, the eponymous wax museum that attracts hordes of tourists, has decided to create yet another wax museum in India.

The museum in India is brought in association with Bobby Khan under 'Bobby Khan Holdings'. Confirms Khan, "The wax figures of popular Hollywood and Indian personalities will be created in London by the Madam Tussauds' team and installed here for public consumption. The original team will work on the figures, which will be carved out of wax and fibre. These figures will then be carried to India and placed in the museums."

The Indian entrepreneur has also acquired exclusive rights to franchise museums in Mumbai, Delhi and Hyderabad and Pakistan, which are to be inaugurated by 2009, 2010 and 2011 respectively.

SRK, who is presently in London to unveil his own wax figure is delighted about this development. "I am very excited but somehow feel a bit sad, at the same time. You know how big honours make you feel a sense of emptiness. But I am very happy by this development."

See your waxen image in town, SRK.

SRK's fitness mania

There are few actors who take their roles utter seriously, one among them is Shah Rukh Khan. It's reported that the actor is working out tremendously to get a chiseled look that is demanded for this character in his home production Om Shanti Om directed by Farah Khan. The actor is so serious about his looks in the movie that to trim himself and get a debonier look the actor has exclusively purchased world's latest and most expensive fitness machine called Power Plate. It's also reported that the machine is worth two to three lakhs! What's more surprising is that the machine is yet to be launched officially in India but when the authorities came to know that Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan has ordered the device, the authorities took it as a special case and within no time the actor was dispatched the machine…

According to Prashant, the fitness trainer of Shah Rukh, "SRK is very energetic. Looking at his zeal I get myself inspires". Prashant further informs, "Power plate is a hot favorite among celebrities around the globe, famous Hollywood popstar Madonna is one among them.

King Khan steals the show

April 03, 2007

IT doesn't take much for Shah Rukh Khan to steal the show from the rest of the Bollywood glitterati.

All he had to do is show up at last night's Zee Cine Awards at the Arena Of Stars in the Genting Highlands.

Shah Rukh, 40, showed yet again why he's known as Bollywood's Badshah (King of Bollywood) when he made an appearance at the awards ceremony, which was organised by the Hindi cable station Zee TV to mark the event's 10th anniversary.

The moment he walked into the Arena Of Stars, the audience screamed so loudly they nearly drowned out the commentary of the event's host, director Karan Johar, 35, who said archly: 'It is never for me.'

Shah Rukh had the audience screaming even louder when he opened his segment with a miniature Petronas Towers on stage, recreating a scene from Don, a film shot in Malaysia.

The father of two was then wheeled in on a platform and, with the backing of five showgirls, performed three numbers from his two nominated films, Don and Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna (KANK, or Never Say Goodbye).

His performance was so hot it even outdid the sexy dance medley by Bollywood starlets like Kim Sharma and Hrishita Bhatt, who danced a tribute to the past 10 years of Bollywood hit songs.

A distant second to Shah Rukh's entertaining ways was Abhishek Bachchan, 31, who did not disappoint the crowd as he dragged his soon-to-be wife, Aishwarya Rai, onto stage to dance to the soundtrack of Dhoom.

It's summer time for SRK

It's summer time, folks - that time of the year when the schools gates close, and kids are excited about their two-month long vacation. Parents start planning their yearly break too. Our star parents, are no exception. We know that Shah Rukh plans his schedules for the year only after taking a long look at his kids' school 'diary of holidays'. This year , too, he's looking forward to this break more than ever before, and has been working round-the-clock. Wonder where he's going to take his kids this time round. Any recommendations?

Shah Rukh Khan joins Tussauds' India gallery

IANS

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan became the latest Indian to be featured in the Madame Tussauds museum when his life-size wax statue was unveiled here Tuesday morning.

Shah Rukh is the third Indian actor to figure in the popular tourist attraction -the other two are Amitabh Bachchan and Aishwarya Rai. The actor was present with his family when his statue was unveiled.

The decision to have a wax model of King Khan was based on feedback received from thousands of visitors and tourists who visit the museum featuring prominent personalities every year.

A spokesman of the museum said that Shah Rukh's statue reflected the growing popularity of Indian films in Britain, which are now watched not only by British Asians but others too.

Guests will be allowed to stand next to Shah Rukh's duplicate and take pictures. The backdrop of the statue could be changed - to one from the star's latest hit "Don", the spokesman added.

Other Indians featuring in the museum include former Prime Ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi.
