Though I dont agree with being very attach to a person, what people consider lucky and what not cannot be understood.. Just recently we had a topic about love, romance being dead, and lucky is someone who at least have the basic respect.. Some married woman will say "i am lucky, no matter how my husband is, at least he doesnt beat me.. " Anyway the standard is falling like bollywood standard of acting

Saira bano had suffered miscarriage..no idea about leukemia. I don't believe she had leukemia because medical treatment was not at par in those days n she would not have gotten saved.

But success chose to play hide and seek with Saira through much of her career. The late 1960s saw the industry being flooded with rumours of Saira being seriously affected by a serious blood disease (it was actually a severe case of colitis.

She had to take a break and lost out on many films including Chhoti Bahu with reigning superstar Rajesh Khanna.

The silver lining to the dark clouds was provided by Manoj Kumar. Ignoring all advice, he decided to play the waiting game for Saira to recover. He cast her as the smoking, drinking, miniskirt flaunting Indian girl in Purab Aur Paschim. The film's success accentuated Saira's Westernised image.

P.S. Saira gave some of her biggest hits after marriage..Shagird,Padosan etc.She was 2 decades younger than Dilip..Yet in 60s-70s she did so many hot roles. By todays standards-they would still raise eyebrows.

Dilip Kumar👍🏼

I will never understand women falling for men way older than them or male chauvinists and philanderer or misogynist types.

Saira was too besotted with DK and too loyal to him.

She could have had any man of her pick given her looks and stardom but settled for this guy.

I guess enamoured by his stardom, power in industry and political connections?

Different women want different things in life and from their husband. Some may want a husband who support her n her career n her family some may just want a rich husband to spend her future comfortably.

Dilip kumar was Saira's childhood crush and she never overcame it. Dilip kumar was lucky but same can't be said about Saira

Saira and DK case has NOTHING to do with career or housewife. I am sure Saira could have found a rich man closer to her age whose wealth she could live off as a trophy wife? Why someone as old as DK? 20 plus years gap in age is too much and also knowing DK's past history of flings, clashes with Madhubala's dad and putting her in tough spot asking her to choose between him and her father or his second marriage or affairs otherwise, why she still chose DK is beyond my comprehension.

DK was ageing when she married him and had no looks.

I can only conclude it was the fame, power and influence he wielded in industry that made Saira choose him. DK was very well connected and close to top politicians both in India and Pak. I do not think only childhood crush was reason to marry DK for someone as young as Saira.
