Marjaavaan movie review: A crowd pleasing action masala MARJAAVAAN movie poster

MARJAAVAAN movie poster

Vishal Verma | 15 Nov 2019 07:53:39 IST

MARJAAVAAN movie review is here. The romantic action film stars Riteish Deshmukh, Sidharth Malhotra,Tara Sutaria and Rakul Preet Singh. Directed by Milap Zaveri, the movie has released today – November 15, 209. Is worth?, let’s find out in the movie review of MARJAAVAAN

Immediate reaction when the end credits roll
MARJAAVAAN makes it loud and clear that some movies are entirely for the masses and not for critics. MARJAAVAAN is a reason why a true blue fan of Bollywood’s action-packed masala escapisms will never forget Shri Amitabh Bachchan’s MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR and Sunny Deol’s JEET etc.

The Story of MARJAAVAAN
An orphan Raghu (Sidharth Malhotra) sheltered by Narayan Anna (Nassar) a water tank mafia, grows up to be Anna’s most trusted favorite. Anna’s son Vishnu (Riteish Deshmukh) a three-foot-tall midget couldn’t stand this camaraderie between his father and Raghu. The complex ridden Vishnu is desperately searching for an opportunity to outplay Raghu and gain proximity with his father. Zoya (Tara Sutaria), a cute Kashmiri girl who loves music walks into the life of Raghu and things take a violent romantic turn.

MARJAAVAAN movie review
Made by a person born and brought up by Bollywood masala entertainers for the ones who are the diehard followers of this community, MARJAAVAAN by Milap Zaveri has all the ingredients that the doctors of Bollywood action masala right from 70’s to 90’s have asked for. Fistfights where bodies are juggled in the air, dialougebaazi, maramari, one dreadful villain, a loyal friend, item number, pious love. All are there. Some work while some don,t.

Tribute to iconic blockbusters like TRISHUL, MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR, JEET is felt. Lines like “Main maroonga marr jayega, dobara janam lene se darr jayega.”, will make the target audience blow whistles.

Boosting of some fine acts lead by Vishnu, played by Riteish Deshmukh who gains some considerable heights as an actor in his weird by menacing portrayal as a villain.

Sidharth Malhotra as the rough and tough Raghu with a golden heart is sincere throughout.

Tara Sutaria is elegant and makes a good impact. Rakul Preet Singh looks gorgeous and does well as a bar dancer Aarzoo having a soft corner for Raghu – ala Zorabai from MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR. Nassar and Ravi Kishen shine in their cameos.

Special mention for Shaad Randhawa as the staunch Muslim friend of Raghu is a must. Godaan Kumar too makes an impact.

Music by Tanishk Bagchi, Meet Bros, and Payal Dev is a plus. "Tum Hi Aana" and "Thodi Jagah" are soulful while the remix of "Ek Toh Kum Zindagani","Haiya Ho, and "Kinna Sona" are good.

Flaws
Zero novelty, obsession with the clichés of Bollywood masalas since 70’s, lack of establishment, graph of key characters like Raghu and Vishnu both are almost one dimension, relying entirely on the nostalgia and the crowd pleasing loud, over the top format of a Bollywood masala action dhamaka, MARJAAVAAN ends up just as an overenthusiastic reminder of the greatness of TRISHUL, MUQADDAR KA SIKANDAR, JEET.

Final Words
MARJAAVAAN has nothing to die for in its plotline and attitude to pay tribute to the escapist action packed masala’s since 70’s. but, it has certainly something to go for the diehard follower of Bollywood escapist action masala lovers who just love such happenings on screen and cannot live without it. An extra for the flashy reminder of Mr. Bachchan as Sikander and Sunny Paaji as Karan from JEET.

Rating 3/5

All the best to Sid. That man definitely needs the luck to maintain any traction in Bollywood. Kill it! 💪

Anyways seems like the Samosa cartoons liked the movie.
