Marjaawaan Does Well - Bala Sustains Well

Marjaawaan did well on day one as it collected around 6.50-7 crore nett as per early estimates. The film scored well in Maharashtra, Gujarat, CP Berar, Nizam, UP and Bihar though collections in the metros were low. The bigger multiplex chains have not been able to collect but smaller multiplexes and single screens have done well especially in mass circuits.

Its a good number for this film though big growth will be hard as a huge ratio of collections are coming from mass centres which dont grow on Saturday. Still the film could be strong on Sunday when these places tend to do well. The film has fetched 15 crore minimum guarantee across India and even with a flat weekend there will be a 10 crore share in the first three days only which means the distributor is certain to be in the black. The big metros multiplexes are low and there is huge potential for these to grow on Saturday but potential does not mean they will grow as the content does seem more for outside metros.

Bala has held well on its second Friday with collections of 3.75 crore nett. The drop is around 20-25% from Thursday and it is looking a good second weekend. The collections of the film so far are around 73 crore nett and the film should cross the 100 crore nett mark.

Still quite good considering his last hit was in 2016 + mixed reviews + the trailer was trolled...

Marjaavaan First Day Business

Saturday 16 November 2019 12.30 IST Box Office India Trade Network

Marjaawaan had pretty well on day one as it collected 6.75-7 crore nett with good collections in mass pockets. The bigger multiplexes were not too strong but the film also did not have a huge number of screens at multiplexes also with the regular multiplex giving it one screen. Despite the business being over 2 crore nett less than Bala the footfalls of this film are similar to that film as it has a huge ratio of business coming from single screens and lower priced multiplexes.

The first day number is a good number for this film as the film does not have to cover much ground theatrically to be in the plus. This sort of opening ensures safety but whether the film can actually succeed will depend on Monday. The growth will be limited if any on Saturday as its the high end multiplexes which normally grow on Saturday and this film is not collecting there but Sunday will have to push and then it will be the crucial Monday which will tell if the film can sustain.

The film did very well in UP and Bihar with the latter collecting almost 40 lakhs nett while very good numbers UP took the Delhi / UP circuit total to 1.80 crore nett and this is with low numbers in Delhi and Noida. The other circuits to do well were CP Berar and Nizam with both collecting 45 lakhs each.

The other releases did not fare well with Motichoor Chaknachoor being the best of the lot with 30 lakhs nett while the Hollywood release Ford And Ferrari collected around 75-80 lakhs nett. The other Hollywood release Charlies Angels was poor with around 50-55 lakhs nett on day one.

Marjaawaan Decent Second Day - Bala Strong Growth

Marjaawaan had a decent second day as it grossed in the same range as the first day with collections of 6.50-7 crore nett. The film was always going to find it hard to grow as the bulk of the business came from mass centres and single screens which dont show improvement on Saturday.

There has not been much growth at the metro multiplexes but crucially the mass centres which had good collections on day one have also not dropped much which gives it a chance for good growth on Sunday. Overall its a decent hold for this type of film and gives it a chance to do well post the weekend. If the film had dropped 10-15% then it would have been an uphill task.

The two day collections of the film will be around 13.50 crore nett and it the weeeknd will easily go above 20 crore nett which will be a decent result for the film and then it will be the acid test on the weekdays.

What's the budget?

I hope it works for Sid, he's been going through a rough patch lately :(

Don’t know the budget but on a few occasions they mentioned that they were able to do the whole Ritesh as a little person thing with a very controlled budget. What was the budget of Zero? I think Milap or the producer said they did this with a quarter budget of Zero but I’m not sure if they meant the whole movie or just the VFX part.

Trade analysts seem happy with the numbers so I’m guessing it was sold to the distributors at a lower price too. Even Box Office India seems positive so far. Producers definitely seem very pleased.

chalo i'm happy that atleast it's not gonna flop as single screens have accepted it anyhow, it will sail past safely, its only competition is Bala as Charlie's Angels has bombed and Ford vs Ferrari doing little better, no chances for moti chakna choor so ppl shouldn't be worrying abt the weekdays, it shall definitely get an average status max. good for sid though, he really needed this badly. i'm still not gonna watching this in theater, not my cup of tea, but good for Sid. if it benefits someone, it's gonna be him
