The footfalls of PK will stay below 3 Idiots though have gone past Dhoom 3 in the fourth weekend. 3 idiots had footfalls of 2.8 crore plus in 2009 while Dhoom 3 was 2.55 crore plus last year. PK will finish somewhere in the middle of the two.

It seems that having more than 3 crore ticket sold is a tough ask while 4 crore looks an impossible task. PK had a huge average ticket rate in the first week of 207 at multiplexes in the first week while second week came down to 181 and third week is down to the normal 155. The footfalls in two weeks were around 2.2 crore and in three weeks it has similar footfalls to Dhoom 3.

In two weeks PK had recorded the same number of footfalls achieved by Ek Tha Tiger but that had nett business of 186 crore while PK in two weeks grossed 277 crore nett. A difference of 90 crore nett in collections but same amount of tickets sold. There will be a huge difference in the average multiplex ticket with Ek Tha Tiger being at 150 and PK heading for 195. The ratio of single screen business is also less for PK. The festive period and the content working meant ticket rates could be kept at higher levels for longer. It was on the third Monday that they were at regular rates. The gap in business between the festive event films and other major releases will get wider as ticket rates can be pushed higher for the festive releases be it for three days, a week or even longer when content is there like PK.

Still put into perspective, a Hum Aapke Hain Kaun would be grossing 650 crore nett on the ticket rates at P.K. Just like North America where the biggest recent hits like Avatar or The Avengers compare badly with the biggest hits ever like Gone With The Wind and Star Wars, its a similar story in India.

Note - The 650 crore nett of Hum Aapke Hain Kaun is not the adjusted nett gross of the film. It is the adjusted figure on the ticket rates of P.K. The average ticket rate for 2014 will be much lower than the rate of P.K.

In-case you didn't notice/know;

2.83 is higher and bigger than 2.80. Their is not much difference b/w the two which means PK sold almost the same number of tickets as 3I. Why don't you give me a Salman movie that sold as many tickets in recent years if it was oh so easy.

As for tickets rates, it is bound to happen. With time the rates, prices will go up. There is a thing called inflation which is the natural order of the world. Happens everywhere. And it makes it even more impressive that PK managed to sell as many tickets as 3I despite such high price. Means people wanted to see the movie no matter what.


As for HAKHK doing 650 crores... 😆😆

It doesn't work like that. PK/3I would have done humongous business and recorded record footfalls perhaps even bigger if it came back in 1990's/80's. I can make that argument as well.

This is the problem with comparing across eras. There are are way too many factors involved to arrive at a suitable conclusion. Fan-boys like to come up with such ridiculous comparisons to suit their agendas..

Inflation, Piracy, poverty, Internet, DVDs, TV etc. There are just way too many variables going against getting people in the theaters in such numbers. The economics and ground realities are different that what they used to be.

Adjust the gross for all such factors and then come up with a figure. If you can do so, then we will talk about the merits of the said movie doing 650 crores.

Dhoom 3 - 2.5 Cr = 260 Cr

Now you can easily see as Actual no. of ppl watching PK/D3 were way less than 3I, but collections were way higher especially PK with almost 135 Cr more, this is what i was talking TICKET RAISE.

Rahi baat Salman ki, Kick was having 2.02 Cr Footfalls & HAHK was having 3rd Highest ever after Sholay & Gadar around 3.5 Cr (BOI).

Salman gave 3.5 Cr footfalls for HAHK way back in 1994 woh bhi SINGLE SCREENS pe, Aamir Khan couldn't break that record then & na hi ab with Multiplex + Single Screen Audience 😆 Forget Aamir, no other star can break HAHK records made in 1994. It was 1st Hindi film to gross 100 Cr WorldWide.

Ek tha Tiger achieved same number of footfalls as PK in its first two weeks yet there was 90cr difference between them. Tingu is a fraud and will be exposed once Dangal comes out.

It is 2.80.

One BOI report said 2.80 and another 2.79. Take your pick. At best it is a difference of 0.4.

And as I said ticket raise is bound to happen. It has with PK and will do so with other movies in the future. It is a natural order.
