Hi everyone

Can I confess upfront, this is the first time I have written anything and the very thought of putting it up here petrifies me...no really I have the same heebi-jeebies that you get when you go for your first job interview at this very moment. But here I am. 😳😳

This idea came to me after a discussion I had with my boss about the importance of mentors, and I began to imagine what might happen if ASR (imagine ASR before he fell in love) was ever put in a situation where he had to mentor someone...

I would love your feedback, so please be generous and share your bouquets and brickbats equally with me.

UPDATE: wow, thank you for showing me so much love. I am truly humbled, and all the encouraging pm's are wonderful. Please PLEASE share your feedback so I know what you like and what you hate.

I present:

Master Class.

Arnav sat down and grumpily logged into his laptop. He had no idea how he had managed to get swayed into this project but that cunning minx at the business association had managed to pull it off and snare the great Arnav Singh Raizada. Now here he was, preparing to give up two hours of his time. Personally, the thought of sticking pins into his eyeballs appealed to him more than teaching some green-behind-the-ears nervous nelly about business. Either you have it, or you don't he thought with his trademark smirk appearing on his face.

No point complaining about it, he thought, the deal is done and time to deliver the goods.

The 'deal' was a two hour one on one mentoring session. His job was to teach, coach, mentor and answer whatever business related questions whichever poor soul got given to him asked. Arnav wasn't religious, but nevertheless, he sent up a prayer to the Patron Saint of Business Tycoons saying 'do what you need to do, but please don't send me an emotional, excitable, irrational...' at that very instant, the image of THAT Khushi Kumari Gupta instantly popped into his head. Now there was a blue print of what not to send he thought.  A ping of the online chat environment broke his reverie and brought him back to the present.

Hai Devi Maiya, please let me learn all that I can, so that I can start Jalebi Junction and make it into the best halwai ki dukaan in Lakshmi Naagar. Heaven only knows that I need all the help I can get to make this a success, she thought as her work PC booted up.  Khushi's life was challenging to say the least. She spent her days working for that draconian ASR (who she secretly referred to as Rakshas Raizada) and spent her evenings caring for her ailing father. Khushi firmly believed that the Rakshas's one hobby, other than making millions in his business, was thinking up ways of torturing her. To date his torment inventory included letting her fall from his office (her bum still hurt from that one), direct traffic in the rain all night (Devi Maiya, he could have mentioned it to me beforehand and I wouldn't have worn that short sleeved kurta and frozen to death) and finally, go into an abandoned construction site only to have it fall down in a heap around her, oh and this is where he broke her favourite bangles. Yes, yes, I could have died had that Rakshas not saved me, but what's the point of being alive and not having one's favourite bangles thought Khushi.  Actually that Khadoos would probably deduct electricity usage from my pay if he knew I was here after hours she thought. She had taken this job in the hope that she'd learn about business from him, but alas unless she was intending to start up an intimidation business, specialising in employee torture whilst maintaining a stone cold glance, Khushi knew full well that the Rakshas was never going to teach her a thing.

The computer finally booted up and Khushi clapped her hands in glee!! She logged into the business development portal and waited for the chat environment to appear. Khushi never thought she'd win when she put in her entry for this master class and had been overjoyed when she found out that she had won. In fact she had even made 1.5kg of piping hot jalebis and offered them at Devi Maiya's Mandir on the very night she heard the news right before that Rakshas made her a traffic attendant in the rain.

Ten minutes late. Ten whole minutes. In his business, his ten minutes were worth ten million. Not a good start Newbie. Arnav already knew what his first lesson was going to be about. A little icon appeared in the virtual boardroom they were using for this meeting and a strong of text followed:

Guest Student: Hello Sir.. or Madam ' actually I don't know ki app sir ho ki Madam?

Master: Its Sir and you are late. Do you understand what that means?!

Guest Student: I'm sorry Sir. It's just that my boss is a bit...well he's a bit of a Rakshas and he would have never allowed me to use the work computer for this session and I don't have a computer and in Lakshmi Naagar a computer would drain all the electricity and cause a power failu...

ASR couldn't believe what he was reading. I'm telling this fool that they're late and they're spinning some cock and bull story about some Rakshas person!!

Master: Stop! I have no interest in hearing about your issues with power ' take that up with the Electricity Board! Now hurry up and tell me what you want ' I don't have time to waste and you've done a brilliant job of wasting 10 of those minutes.

Guest Student: But Sir, I'm supposed to have two hours with you??

Master:  Yeah, well thats tough. You have 10 minutes. Start talking.

Khushi was astounded. Were all business people born with some sort of mean gene code embedded into their DNA??

Guest Student: Ok ok. I want to start up my own business but I have to work during the day to save money to start and my boss isn't the most understanding person on this planet

Master: Huh... why should your boss be understanding? You are hired to work for him. I demand the utmost loyalty from each of my employees and expect them to put in 120% when they are at work. I certainly don't expect them to be planning how to start their own business. Anyway, what business do you want to start?

They all do come with the mean gene, thought Khushi.

Guest Student: umm ok. I want to start a shop called Jalebi Junction to sell my sweets in.

WHAT THE F...! A jalebi shop?? I can't believe I'm sitting here discussing a sweet shop. Arnav made a mental note to have a serious chat with the lady from the business development bureau and tell her that he thought she was sending him a REAL business student to have a chat with. This one must be like that Khushi Kumari Gupta ' she came up with 'winning' ideas like this daily. Arnav took a deep breath and started typing.

Master: Look I don't specialise in small insignificant operations like this. I'm a serious businessman and I own a multibillion dollar empire.

Guest Student: Sir with all due respect, a business is a business at the end of a day regardless of how small it might be. As long as you can provide a service which people want to purchase and you can generate a profit, it's all relevant. Besides my dad was the best mithai maker in all of Lucknow. Sir, I will have you know that I am the daughter of a master mithai maker and Personal Assistant to the biggest business tycoon in Delhi.

"There put that in your pipe and smoke it hotshot" thought Khushi.

I am the BIGGEST Business Tycoon in Delhi!!  How dare she, thought Arnav. Then it struck him. Laxmi Nagar. Jalebi. Biggest Tycoon in Delhi.  There was only one person on this planet that was connected to all these things.

Khushi. Kumari. Gupta.

At that second, the devil in Arnav roused and he decided to have some fun with Miss 'Business Woman' Kumari Gupta...
