Shes only improving...there is only progress and no decline...which is awsome! go kat!

I agree! I think we should give her a chance! She was good in Rajneeti actually! Have u seen the movie? I was really suprised! I was like wow, didn't expect this from Kat! I said it before and I say it again, she needs good directors like Madhur and Vishal, and am sure she will deliver a decent performance! But if she keeps making films with Akki, no one is gonna take her seriously as an actress! She needs another Rajneeti!

^^precicely....its directors like vishal, imtiaz, mani ratnam etc who bring out the best in their actors (with the exception of AB in raavan)...kat never got to work with such ppl till now coz she was never offered such films...she did whtever she was offered..coz the girls got to feed herself!! but i strongly believe she would be totally awsome in a movie with a capable director.

the thing with ash and kat is that they r soo amazingly beautiful, ppl always have had this ice-maiden tag attached to them coz they look unreal to be that beautiful. Hence, their emotions also seem unreal....dunno... but i think both of them are good actors.

well, nothing is impossible... even the word, impossible, spells i m possible...! 😛😛
as for the question... only time will tell...!!
she's average (on my scale)... and well, if arjun rampal can get a National Award for his performance in Rock On (whom i would rate around the same as Kat), then surely, even Katrina can... besides, most of the good actors/actresses have already been awarded (barring a few)....!!
what i like about Kat, is that she does not overestimate herself... she's taking it slow... she knows her own capabilities and limitations... which is always a good virtue in any celeb... it'll only do her good.... and besides, considering the amount of lash back she gets, she can only go up....!! 😛😛

Well, it's taken her about 7 years to improve to this level so i don't know if I'd be getting hyper about her taking things to the next level just yet. Katrina has a very very very long way to go as an actress and while she is improving, her groW*H has been pretty slow. While, she might be capable of doing a small (read miniscule) bit in Rajneeti, I honestly don't think she can carry a film like Jab we Met or Fashion on her shoulders at this point. Yes, she did a Namastey London but that did not really require much acting since she was literally playing herself in the movie.

So, the bottom line is, if people want to wait around for another few years, I'm sure they'll see her doing something better than what she's doing now.

and even if she does not win a National Award, it really would not matter... a lot of actors and actresses have never won an award, but they had a good career... so really, that's all that matters in the end...
personally, it's good if someone wins an award for their achievements, but in the long run, everyone wants to do well....
Rani has won a lot of awards, and she is remembered as one of the best actresses of our times... but it's not doing any wonders to her career, is it...
i think Katrina is a very practical person... and mostly, it matters that she is able to sustain her career, which i think she will... looking at the competition, and the state of hindi film industry...!!

Idk, I really don't see any major improvement in her and it has been 7 years. I hope she does though, she stars in a hell lot of movies.

A minor analogy on Ash and Kat's acting: Ash, though not a great actress, still did films where she was required to act. From the very beginning of her career, Ash stuck to films that gave her scopes to act and prove herself. Ash did not use her beauty (even though many producers used Ash only for that purpose) to make a name for herself. Despite of having the looks, Ash performed in films where her role was more than just being a showpiece.

Since you brought in Priyanka, I will give you that Priyanka acted terribly in the films you mentioned. She hammed her way through them, yes, but the fact that many of those films gave Priyanka substantial roles can't be denied either. Same goes for Kat's contemporaries: Sonam's roles in Saawariya and D6 had far more meat than anything Kat had done so far. And it is for this reason that, actresses like Priyanka, Kareena, Rani, etc improved their prowess with each new films: they took risk and tried to do films with substantial roles. Based on that, I see Sonam going a long way ahead (at least when compared with someone like Kat). Same goes for Deepika; her roles aren't necessarily the greatest, but they are way better than Kat's half-baked ones.

Katrina, on the other hand, has yet to do a single movie (with the possible exception of New York) where she is required to act. In Raajneeti, all she was required to do was to wave her hands and be an arm-candy. Kat's roles usually consist of looking pretty and smiling her head off and dancing. She had barely went out of her comfort zone and tried her hands at films which rests solely on her shoulder, and which gives her the chance to show her acting prowess (if she has any, that is). And this is why I really don't see Kat going far when it comes to the acting department. Until and unless she starts doing meaty roles (like Kareena in Chameli, Rani in Saathiya, Priyanka in Aitraaz/Fashion, etc, i.e. roles that helped them prove themselves), she will remain the mediocre actress that she is.

Sorry, didn't mean to write an essay. 😆

i agree with you on some points... but i do think, that Katrina does choose her roles well... she chooses roles, where she won't butcher her character... i think she is well aware of her capabilities... and that's probably why she does not choose movies like Chameli, Saathiya, Aitraaz, Fashion, or JWM...!!
i liked her in Namaste London... and that was a role where she could perform... it helped that she could relate a lot to the character (because she also has similar background)... and she was good in New York... again, i imagine because she could relate... but let's be realistic... there are always going to be roles of commercial nature, considering the movies that actually do well at the box office... so in that regards, she really does not has too much competition... agree with you though, about deepika choosing good roles... she's choosing a variety of roles, which in the long run, will be a smart choice... i think she will go far...!
in order for Katrina's career to go downhill, things would have to drastically change in our film industry... which i don't see happening anytime soon...!!
p.s. essays are good... provide for a meaningful debate...! 😉😆😆

I think she can equal or might surpass Madhuri Dixit in terms of hits only, but how about acting and awards? Can Katrina do what it takes to win a best actress or National Award? Sure, she showed acting promise in New York and Raajneti. But, can Katrina do a role like Kareena in Jab We Met, Aish in Devdas or HDDCS, Rani in Black, or even Preity in KHNH?

Only time will tell. I hope Katrina can take it to the next level and achieve this feat before age 30! 😲

But, can Katrina do a role like Kareena in Jab We Met, Aish in Devdas or HDDCS, Rani in Black, or even Preity in KHNH? or PC in Fashion and Kaminey...
NO WAY.
Lets forget about the others since they made their debut at different times. Look at PC. she pretty much made her debut around the same time as Katrina, plus or minus one year.
Look at the tremendous amount of growt as an actress and the different genres she has had from where she started to Fashion to Kaminey to SKM now.
Katrina knows her limitations as an actress and so do the directors. In the few more years she has in the industry I pretty much doubt her growing drastically and going into the next level like the other actresses.
No doubts that she is the box office queen and the darling of the janta. Just her presence is enough to get the crowds into the theatre. Its her comfort zone and she does not want to risk getting out of it.
She is a eye candy and i have seen men at my work place drool drool drool over her. And they are men from the 20's to the 40's and 50's guys too. If i question them about her acting abilities, they say acting kisko dekhna hai??😆
Regarding awards, anyone and every one gets some award or the other. If not a Filmfare or a National award, you never know she may get the Padmashri. 😆

Anyway, a role can be both commercial and substantial. Her roles in New York and Namaste London are good examples. One doesn't have to play serious characters or work in pretentious artsy flicks to prove oneself.
