Yes it does boils down to choices, but I dislike the notion that somehow people are only watching Katrina for her looks... so they aren't watching Ash for her looks..??? Ash I would say has built her whole career around the "most beautiful woman in the world" tag.. her fans try to justify her acting abilities by naming random flicks she did here and there.. but general perception that her looks overpower her acting abilities exists.. universally and even she tries to fight it.. but she has hardly rissen above the loreal consemtic girl and the her miss world tag.. from how i perceive things.

another good point bought up by sallufanno1 is that kat is also limited looks wise. As said earlier, she cant play a gaon ki gori, rural girl (like gayatri joshi in swades), or play a punjabi girl like geet, or a middle aged indian housewife like tabu in astitva....she wouldn't suit them...her looks limit her to doing roles which belong to the more urban and supposedly "modern" parts of india and shes doing her best in whatever she gets. i think shes doing gr8.

you're right that beauty plays a more important role for not just katrina but for other actresses as well... and it's also true to quite an extent that ash has gotten a lot of roles because of her miss world title... but i disagree that she has not proven her acting capabilities... it's actually quite a shame, that her beauty tends to overshadow her acting capabilities... and i find that most people don't really give due credit to her, mostly because of this very reason... but well, perceptions are perceptions... and they would vary from person to person... even with katrina, i find that to be the case... most people are busy attributing her success because men drool over her, and i find the notion 'she can't act', to be quite hilarious... because i think she does well in her roles... she may not be a 10 on 10, but she does justice to the roles she plays...!! it's actually amusing... either you have to be a great actor as per likes of sridevi, madhuri or a rani, kajol... or you can't act...!! 😆😆 but kya karen... loogon ki apni apni sooch hai.. and we can't really change that...!!

She does not need to take it to any other level. She knows what she can offer and she sticks to it. Its been 7 years, she's already hit her saturation point and despite that she's still got the box office pull. What more can a bollywood actress want? To answer the question, no she can't. If she could, we would have seen traces of it by now.

Katrina in New York and even rajneeti was awesome , but i think its gonna take alot for her to do something like rani in black or anything like that

i do imagine her in a geet JWM role though , but not in a total serious role , she def. is hard working , im shocked to see the result of her workouts etc in TMK
