THis is my personal vendetta against a lot of so-called film crtics

I so agree that a 3 rd rate movie ought to be called 3rd rate if it is dumb but I never understood what is with these pretentious writers with their strange characteristics.

Who gives them the ability to write such JUVENILE articles about movies I have no idea! Dont ask me from where this talk cropped up! SOme of these articles go beyond what they are supposed to do-talk about the movie and delve into personalities of teh actors and actresses.

I distinctly remember one reviewer of rediff who will praise any SRK movie sky high but will find the strangest of reasons to look down on certain actors!(I AM AN SRK FAN but still the reviewer always went over the top that it bordered on ridiculousness!)

The funniest part of the articles sometimes are the factors where the writer tries to SOund BRILLIANT and starts putting down people who have so much experience in teh field they are in!

Yea and the uh-so often reference to the artifical song and dance routines! DUDE THIS IS bollywood and this is how we DO IT! If the reviewers still wanna complain about the differences and the low standards ofIndian movies to the Awesoemsauce movies of the west, they are again losing the whole point!

NEVER GO BY A CRITIC'S opinion of a movie! We have enough brains to decide whether we like it! I would prefer to read about the plot and decide for myself whether I like a movie or not than think about what another dude THINKS about it!

Let me go to my favourite dictionary on how it defines "critics"(UrbanDictionary)
"
A critic is a low-life creature that lacks any talent or ability to contribute anything, yet chooses to verbally attack and put down the works of others. Through usage of long words and general pretenciousness, they pretend to show intelligence and also to appear human like the rest of us, hiding their true parasite form. Everyone has, and is entitled to, an opinion, but a critic makes it their businness to state their opinion to everyone through the media or press, and to state their opinion as fact. If your a musician, film-maker, artist, writer etc, and you see a professional critic writing a review about you, do the right thing and kill them where they stand. If you want to know if a film or band etc is any good, don't read the reviews, ask a friend what they think.
Stephen Fry on Art Critics:- "Imagine, you get to Heaven and St Peter asks what you did with your life and you say, 'Oh I just said what other people did wrong!'"
"

that was a bad rant! sorry if loosely framed! These guys psyche me out! the self proclaimed know-it-alls!

🤣 that just made my day..the urban dictionary quote is hilarious🤣 anyways I for one dont give a damn about what the heck critics write about in movies..I know that if I like a movie's promos I will make sure to go and see it...I never go by the critics because more than 98% of the time I disagree with them

yea Ive never had a review that I totally agree with as well!!

I watch a movie if it can hold my attention fro more than 10minutes..other than that I dun care and doze in the theatre!

its just so easy to trash somebody elses work in a page and act as if they would prance or dance or act better than the ones performing

Being critical of the work is fine...if u have reasons to support it!

I LOWWE THe definition too...LOL

What a definition !!

Yup, so true dat these ppl r doing a time pass job than clear writing from the audiences POV !!! But my question is "Are thr any critics today ??'' .. U find them writing just so much .. hero was good , heroine was sexy .. they had an awesome chemistry !! On a serious note, nobody writes about camera, lighting, editing etc etc ..

YES...I agree with you..I actually took a film studies claas(for my enjoyment) in my high school and was fascinated by the technical aspect of filmmaking...I swear after that I started to hate the filed of criticism(esp in films and music) because they never focus on the technical aspect of the camera or editing or even symbolism(for deeper films)

Im not against criticism...but where are ur sensible reasons for criticizing!????

why arent the techinicians appreciated..the behind the scene guys have put in a lot of work which always goes unappreciated!

Exactly !! More than the actors .. its people behind the screen who slog . If editing isn't done well , a scene may give out its worst impression !!!! Nobody even cares for screenplay, dialogue writing .. Coming to south Indian films, dubbing for actors are so important as most of the actors donot know the language .. But nobody even cares to credit them ..

I both agree and disagree with you to an extent. Indeed, there are some film critics from all over the world who do show bias in their reviews and resort to puerile comments aimed at a specific actor/actress to garner readership. These are the more "professional" critics - Taran Adarsh is someone who comes to mind. However, there are reviewers or film critics who do provide a more accurate view of the movie, analyzing why it worked, why it didn't, whether the technical aspects ameliorated or took away from the movie, the symbolism, etc. Reviews by these critics are often found in scholarly journals of several university presses. Their readership is unfortunately limited due to the fact that there is often a long period of time between the release date of the movie and the date these articles are published.
That said, I do find this phrase of yours a bit iffy:

By this theory, people (film critics or otherwise) should not have a value judgement on any movie because even reviewers who often criticize movies usually can't act better than the one's performing. Not just movies, people who criticize the writing styles of books - especially bestsellers - should write a bestseller themselves and then, criticize someone else. If this were to apply and go both ways then, even people who praise a certain book or movie should first create the same form of art and get the accreditation to praise or criticize a movie/book, yes? If one needs certification to criticize a movie, assuredly one should also need certification to praise the same movie.
