Talia, 🤗

I will keep writing, as of now, I do not plan to stop. As I posted on my other thread - "Writing is quite addictive, it is the only world I can control"

Though there are times, when even this world spins out of control, when my characters take over the story.

Yuan - fen (A SwaSan One Shot)

This word finds a place in my list of beautiful words from other languages which cannot be translated into English. I had been dying to use it ever since I chance on it.😳

And when a couple of weeks ago, I remembered a short story by one of my favourite authors, O'Henry, I was struck by the possibility of adapting that tale for our very own SwaSan. I was hesitant, but could not resist that idea, hence this tale.

A yuan-fen that this yuan-fen got penned.😆😆

But what does this word mean, exactly? It describes a Chinese concept and is a combination of two words: Yuan meaning chance / luck / opportunity and Fen could be roughly translated to mean casualty / design / resolution. Hence Yuan-fen could be defined as the "force that ensures two people meet and the actions / decisions they take to ensure that they stay together. In certain cases, it is described as "fateful coincidence"

Yuan is a destiny over which we have no control: it was inevitable - from our knowledge - to meet with that special person; While Fen is a destiny forged from that moment on which we are already participants. One is destiny written by an alien past, probably the whole history of the universe; The other is a destiny projected towards the future, the one that is being written right now.

Yuan is the destiny that came, it is predestination; Fen, the destiny that will come, determination.

It is a very common term and is used to denote both personal (friends and lovers) and business relationships.

So this tale of mine is about a couple to who fated to meet, but are convinced that destiny would not allow them to stay together. They give up the one they were fated to fall in love with for the one they were destined to be wedded to.

But since this is an adaption of an O'Henry story, be prepared for the unexpected twist in the end. The original story by O'Henry is titled "The Unknown Romance" which is short even by O'Henry's standards and in my personal opinion, reflects the cynicism of the couple fated to marry on account of social status and money. I have tried to change the tenor of in my story to one of hope.

Interested? Do hop over to the thread to read and it would be great if you left your feedback.

And I have updated a new story for my SwaSan Spectrum Series. This is named Cinereal Streaks (The Colour - Silver) and is a fancy title for the phrase Silver Lining.

This OS deals with one of the most tragic losses an expectant couple can face, a miscarriage. A miscarriage is not a medical term of a natural termination of a pregnancy but an emotional upheaval that effects everyone. I am not sure why I picked on this topic to write, that too on my one and only OTP, whom I adore despite the serial being long over.

To tell the truth I do not know, the idea just possessed me and I had to write it out (it happens at times to me😆😆😆). I have not dealt with the medical facet of a miscarriage but have chosen to write about the emotional trauma the expectant parents and the immediate family would go through.

Another thing I tried to address through this OS is the fact that a loss, of any kind, of a baby or any relation would effect all concerned and everyone involved has a right to grieve and expect comfort. Most of us turn selective in offering our sympathy, we decide who has a greater right to grieve and try to tell the others that that person needs our sympathy and support. In cases as these, it is usually the woman who would get all the support and sympathy, which is understandable as she would physcially feel the loss, but then the husband who has also lost a chance to be a parent also deserves some support.

I have seen and been through similar situations, where one loses a parent or a sibling or a spouse the the world at large, tells you, "you have to be strong, your (other) parent, partner (of the sibling), child needs you, you cannot cry" It is at times like these, that I want to scream at them, "Do not compare the grief, each one of us is different and we grieve differently. Do not try to take away their right to grieve by telling them that they should not feel sorrow as their pain is lesser than someone else's. Do not lessen their loss, by saying that losing a parent is not as bad as losing a spouse."

I tried to explore this too in my OS and if you dear reader still dare to read after the preachy note above, thank you. And if you leave a feedback, it would be even greater.

Finally to that curious reader who might want to know why I write about such a sensitive topic when I have neither experienced the joy of motherhood nor the pain of losing a child (and I know I never will know either), my answer is, I wanted to explore my writing skills (still not sure of them) and also wanted to step out of my comfort zone (for it frightens me to do so and I want to overcome that fear). Further, I believe to be a writer, one should have imagination to write beyond what we experience; for if I only wrote what I have experienced and am an expert in, the only thing I would be able to write would be an Accounting and Auditing Manual.😆

For those brave sweethearts still willing to read the link is given below.😳

ETA - I was doing some browsing for a friend, when I stumbled on this, it is quite appropriate to this story, hence posting it below:
