Chapter 5
Sanskar stares ahead... His gaze bleak... Not seeing anything... Shaking with disbelief... His rebellious heart outraged over his choice of words... Scolding him... He body tremors slightly... Feeling cold. Standing by the half open door, Swara frowns, worried, thinking, "what must have happened... He looks like he has seen a ghost."
Walking slowly towards him, Swara calls out softly, "Sanskar. Is everything okay?" Watching her walk towards him, Sanskar rasps, "I thought you had left." Shaking her head, Swara thinks, "how could I leave when I know you need me", says, "I remembered some pending work that needed to be done."
Sanskar nods his head absentmindedly... Losing himself in his inner battle. "Sanskar," Swara calls out hesitantly, unsure of what to do. Sanskar snaps back to the present, says "yea." "What's wrong," Swara asks, "you look very upset." Trying to smile, but failing, Sanskar replies, "killer headache." Smiling, Swara walks around the desk, stopping behind his chair, running her fingers through his hair she lightly massages his head. Moments later she asks softly, "what is bothering you?"
Holding her hands in his, stopping her from massaging his head, Sanskar rests her hands on either side of his shoulders. Lifting one of her hands he places a small kiss on the back of her palm, sighing, says, "nothing... Everything." Leaning forward, her breath tickling the side of his neck Swara says, "you know you can tell me anything... Right." With a heavy heart, Sanskar nods, whispering, "yes I know." Closing his to curb his guilt, he says, "you shouldn't trust me so much... You shouldn't love me so deeply... I..." Swara bursts out laughing, says "enough teasing. Come drop me home. It is late." Shaking her head, smiling, she says, "you need to decide... You can't have it both ways... One minute you insist I should trust you completely and then the next you are warning me not too. For somebody who knows what he wants you sound terribly confused," she ends, teasing him, hoping to lighten his mood.
Drowning into eyes filled with love, trust, warmth, sanskar pulls her into his arms, missing her passionately, desperately. Surprised by his intensity... His desperation... Swara kisses him back, hoping to reassure him that she would always be here, by his side. Resting his head on the crook of her neck, Sanskar mutters as he places soft kisses along her jaw line, "I need to drop you before it is too late." Smiling, Swara pulls him for a kiss, meaning against her lips, "it it already too late." Not satisfied, still needing contact, Sanskar links his fingers through hers as they walk towards his car.
Dida looks towards the entrance anxiously, muttering, "where is she? Why is she not answering my call? It is late" Seeing Swara getting dropped off, Dida smile with relief, then watches in horror as she watches Sanskar kiss Swara lightly on her lips.
Swara walks dreamily towards her home, smiling to herself, happy. Dida stonily calls out, "Swara. Come here." Surprised, Swara smiles replying, "yes Dida." Walking into the house, Swara is surprised to see her mother sitting on the sofa, an expression of worry etched on her face. Turning to Dida, Swara is surprised further as she reads anger. Concerned she asks, "Dida, what happened?"
Dida glares at her then towards her mother then back at Swara, yelling, "what happened... She asks... What happened..." Taking a step towards her, Dida says slightly calmly, "I will tell you what will happen... You will break off whatever it is that is going on between you and Sanskar Maheshwari. You will quit your job. Do you understand," Dida ends up roaring.
Taken aback, Swara tries to explain, "Dida I love him... He loves me..." Dida interrupts furiously, fear ruling her, "understand me well Swara... I don't want you seeing that boy again." Swara turns to her mother, says, "aai, Sanskar loves me. He wants to marry me. I..." "Enough," Dida roars before Sharmista can say anything, "you will not marry Sanskar", as she recollect his promise of vengeance. "But Dida..." Swara says only to have Sharmista interrupt her, "Shona, stop. Your grandmother has spoken." Concerned and surprised Sharmista studies her mother, trying to understand why she was reacting so strongly against Sanskar.
