Kintsugi, which literally translates to golden joinery, is a Japanese art of repairing broken ceramics or pottery, where the artists use an adhesive mixed with golden dust to join the pieces or fill cracks. The novelty of this art comes from the fact that it does not disguise the brokenness of the object, nor does it make it as good as new. Instead, it fills the cracks with this gold dust, visibly incorporates and highlights the repair and thus transforms the object into something different and arguably, more beautiful than the original. The beauty lies in the philosophy behind it. Kintsugi believes that people undergo ups and downs and everybody faces unfavorable circumstances at some point of time, something signified by the cracks in the ceramics. But those circumstances are a part of life and even if broken, people can move on and build something beautiful, in whatever manner they like. It accepts that cracks have happened and endeavors to create a valuable object with the cracks. I read somewhere that the importance of Kintsugi is not in the physical appearance but the beauty that stays in the person who is looking at the ceramic.
It sounds very similar to what happened today na? The way Naina said shagun apshagun depended on perception and that joining broken things is a good sign, I was instantly reminded of Kintsugi. It is also interesting how much this philosophy holds true for Karan and Naina. They met, started to build a relationship and then the marriage fiasco happened, which shattered whatever they had. Subsequently, they picked up pieces and began again, joining the pieces, filling the cracks, little by little, with understanding, friendship and love. Their motivations changed, their feelings changed and the gaps started filling. In their relationship, one fact that will never change is that that the way they got married was far from ideal, it was based on a condition and shouldn't have happened that way. That was one crack which caused a few others as well and these cracks will always be there, they cannot be disguised or wished away. But Karan and Naina can fill these cracks with their own gold dust, their love, their care to create a beautiful, valuable relationship, just like the beautiful things Kintsugi creates. Which is what they are doing now. ❤️
Coming to the episode, Naina's love shined all through it. It was there in her every action, her every word, her every movement. All of it was only for Karan. And Karan was with her every step of the way, giving her strength, being her strength. When Naina saw that her matka was broken, she was taken aback. But as everybody debated and NK did drama, her expressions changed, and with that determined look, said that she will use the same matka and dance. And it was not simply because she left it to God or to chance. She said that she was an engineer and she can use her knowledge to fill the crack in such a way that it lasts while she dances. What an absolutely brilliant scene. She had already dismissed that apshagun angle which was another beautiful dialogue. But the best part was when she was talking about why she wanted to do this. "Main ye apne Shiv ke liye karna chahti hoon. Di, aapne dekha Karan kaise mujhe dekh rahe hain? Vo meri himmat hain. Aaj tak, meri himmat, Karan ki taakat thi. Aur aaj, Karan ki himmat, mera haunsala badhayegi." THIS. What a beautiful, beautiful thought.
And Karan really was her strength today. Remember there have been scenes earlier when Karan has derived strength simply from the way Naina looks at him? The situation was reversed today. When he saw that her matka was broken, he was worried. But then when she said that she wanted to continue with the dance, his expressions also changed. He trusted her, he had confidence in her, and believed that she could do it. His small smile, his look conveyed all this. And of course, all his love for her was also visible in his eyes. It is that look which motivated Naina to dance. She was looking at him pretty much the entire dance, her love bright in her eyes for everyone to see and he was looking back at her the same way. It was too beautiful for words! ❤️
The dance was very well done. Kudos to both the girls for carrying it off. Ankitta is such a graceful dancer! Her movements are so clear and her dance flows so smoothly, its such a pleasure to watch.
Have you noticed how everybody just keeps pointing out that Karan Naina are in love, in front of them, and they don't even bat an eyelid? It was Meghna a few days ago, it was Dadaji today and both Naina and Karan just smiled. Aur haan, aaj kal bade besharam ho gaye hain NaiRan. 😆 They were full on flirting khuallam khula that day in front of Meghna Kunal before Karan left for office. There was absolutely no awkwardness on either of their side. Abhi se ye haal hai toh aage kya hoga?😉
I also thought that Friday's phone call between NaiRan was very telling. Karan was upset, she called him, he was about to lash out like he does, but stopped. He usually lets it all out and she motivates him and helps him. But he knows that it upsets her. So this time, he actually decided to tackle it himself and not cause her any hurt. He tried to divert her mind by flirting with her again (Its seriously his favorite thing now 😆), she was not fooled but didn't press it. It was nice.
The precap ka scene looks good. Uff, the way they look at each other.
