Part 4:
Yuvraj's POV:
I had to talk to Uncle first, privately. Suhani looked surprised when I told her that I wished to speak to her dad alone. He didn't seem as surprised as her. I asked him for permission to take Suhani with me for the night.
"Yuvraj, she's your wife...you can take her anywhere you want to."
"Ok, well, there's something else that I want to tell you as well."
"Go ahead..."
"I love her. I'm just doing this to give her some time. I want to spend time with her outside my house and make her feel that she's wanted."
"I know."
"You do?"
"I do. I know you love her..." He said. I smiled. He smiled back.
"Don't tell her, though, ok? I will tell her, eventually. I want to make her feel it on her own." I said. He nodded. "Whatever you do is fine with me. I'm content. I can tell how much you love her. A parent can always tell when someone loves their child." He said.
"And Lata Auntie?"
"She gets it as well. We're all with you. But you're right; Suhani does need to be convinced this time. This is between the two of you. However you choose to approach this situation is alright with me." We finished talking and I met Suhani who was waiting outside. She had a small bag with her things for the night, and she looked very pretty in a red saree. I smiled at her.
I honestly didn't know what I was going to do or say tonight. I had no plan of action. I wanted to show her I loved her before I ever said it. I wanted her to feel it and believe it. Somewhere I knew what needed to be done, and I wanted to take that step, but I was very afraid of how she would respond. I had feelings for her now, very deep ones. Tonight was a test of sorts. How would I feel being alone with her? I thought we could watch movies together. I could take her out for dinner, at a restaurant near our farmhouse. We could talk. I could apologize for some of the things I'd said and done. Beyond that, I didn't know if I could do more without offending her or being rejected.
I knew I couldn't be nervous anymore. I couldn't afford to be. Maa told me that she would respond if I expressed myself properly. I had to try much harder tonight. There was an awkward silence in the car. It was a long drive and barely a few minutes into it, it began to rain heavily. I had no idea it would rain tonight. In all my fuss over what to do, what to say, and how to behave, I didn't bother checking the weather. Suhani seemed worried. The rain only got heavier.
"Yuvraj, maybe we should turn back." She said. That's the last thing I wanted. It took me days to gather enough courage for this night and now that it was here, I wasn't going to turn back and go back to being a coward.
"Don't worry, if it becomes too much, we'll stop somewhere..."
"Where?"
"There are some places...around..." I said. I knew there were some. It was a heavy downpour. And then, the car broke down. We ran over something or the other in the rain. I couldn't see what it was. We were in a forested area and the farmhouse wasn't much farther off but there was no way to continue driving in the rain, with a flat tire. I tried going online to find out if there was any place to stay around here, but there was such poor reception here. Suhani tried too. I had to call Sharad. I had no choice.
"Sharad, go online right now and do as I tell you...HURRY!"
"Whoa, Guru...calm down. Where are you?"
I told him where and after teasing me and pulling my leg for 5 useless minutes, he managed to find out that there were places to stay.
"There are cabins but those are in the woods. Be careful there, Guru."
"Yeah. I will..."
"Have funnn..." He added.
"Shut up. Get a life. Don't you dare open your big mouth and tell anyone."
"I love you too, Guru. Say hello to Bhabhi for me..."
"Get lost." I said. He laughed and I finished the call. It meant we needed to walk. I had an umbrella. Suhani looked worried and I tried reassuring her.
"It'll be ok. Don't worry...I'll make sure we're safe." She nodded. I gave her the umbrella, took her things out and hoped Sharad would keep his mouth shut. Well, this wasn't what I was planning, but I had to make the most of it anyway. It was windy and we both got wet even with an umbrella. Sharad's directions were spot on. There were cabins and apparently they rented out rooms to unfortunate people like me who got screwed over by the weather, or their cars.
I held her hand as she nearly slipped near the entrance of the cabin. It was in a very secluded, forested area but once we were inside, it seemed a lot bigger. There was a receptions desk and they had more than one floor, and more than one empty room.
The lady at the counter eyed us suspiciously. She was an elderly woman.
"Are you married?" She asked.
I nodded.
"You'll stay in the same room?" She asked. I nodded. She stared at Suhani for a minute. She was looking at her sindhoor.
There were a total of 4 bedrooms. Only one of them had room for two people.
"Lucky for you, that's available." She said. She showed us to our room. We entered and now we were completely alone. The rain began to slow down. It was nighttime now. My car was in no shape to be driven yet. Both of us were wet. The room was as simple as can be. There was a small bed for two in the middle of the room, huge windows with blue curtains, a bathroom, and a dressing table. I sat at the edge of the bed. She turned on the lights. I had to think hard how to keep this night from becoming a total failure.
We didn't even have anything to eat yet. Did this place have any room service? I changed into my clothes for the night and then I went to ask the lady about food. They had some kind of room service. I was grateful for anything at this point. I could manage but I didn't want my wife to starve due to my pathetic sense of planning.
I went back to our room and Suhani was sifting through her bag.
"What happened?"
"All my clothes are wet." She said. She looked frustrated. She pushed her bag away and sat on the edge of the bed. I felt bad. This was all my fault and I knew it. I handed her my clothes.
"Wear my shirt...or whatever's still dry...I'm so sorry, Suhani. I didn't think this would happen. I had something else planned." I said. "I promise you..."
She still looked upset. I hated seeing her like this. There was a knock on the door. The food was here. At least we had that much. She didn't change. She was drenched. I was afraid she'd catch a cold. It wasn't until she sat across from me that I noticed how attractive she looked with a wet saree clinging to her skin. Strands of her hair were sticking to her face. Drops of water fell down the side of her face. Before I knew it, I was mesmerized.
