Jatayu, the king of vultures comes to meet Shri Ram when they decide to stay at panchavati. My doubt is the timeline. I do not remember if this happens after 10 years or before.
Jatayu is king Dasharath's old friend and when he comes to know if the king 's death, is very sad.
He tells Shri Ram that he has become old but at any point of time if the trio needed any help in the forest, he would be there for them. He promises to watch over them during their stay in the van. Shri Ram is exceedingly happy to have met his father's friend and both he and Lakshman pay their respects to the king of birds.

It is then during the haran that we again see jatayu. After King Dasharath's death, it is jatayu s sacrifice for which Shri Ram breaks down completely.

The manner in which events are being depicted is a let down on Ramayana; agreed it is from Sita's perspective and we value that- but it should not be at the cost of turning over the story timeline. Sage Agasthya directs Rama to Panchavati and also gives divine weapons that would come in handy later. In all their visits to the ashrams of sages, Rama and Sita have intellectual conversations about life, living etcetra, which is the beauty of Ramayana. Jatayu meets them when they are on their way to Panchavati. I wonder if any of this is ever going to be shown. It was a great serial when it started, wonder why it is being rushed so much.

The timelines during their stay in the forest has been skewed quite a bit. They completely skipped Sarabhanga and sudeekshana ashrams.. the initial 10.5 years were very peaceful for the trio. Here they have already conquered quite a number of rakshas.
Sage Agastya s part was also distorted to have Shri Ram teaching the sages defence rather than Agastya do the same for Shri Ram.

The timelines of vaali -sugriv also is confusing. Sugriv is just about to marry. There is a year that he waits for vaali to come back from his fight with mayavi. Then there is the time sugriv spends running, escaping from vaali ( this is important as sugriv has to help Shri Ram search for Sita and he is an expert when it comes to places that can be searched as he has personally gone to each of these spots.. as a part of his escape from vaali)

Raavan became ruler of 3 worlds just 10 years back. Meghanand is still not indrajit. All this happened before Shri Ram's time.

The writers have taken a lot of liberties with timelines.

I like Utkarsh for the thought he puts in behind his scenes. But he surely belongs to this age of myth-writers who tend to impress the younger gen who are less exposed to epics and who tend to rely on TV shows for their knowledge. Few decades ago, there used to be ton of mythological movies and of course kids read AmarChitraKatha and much more.

When he said 'they should be afraid', I think he is taking his audience too lightly. His statement too can't be taken seriously. I mean who is afraid?

There is a movie 'Bhookailas' where Ravana is the hero. Ravana is extolled as the great Shiva-Bhakta, nava vyakarana pandita, who knew vedas etc. His role in bringing atma-linga to Gokarna is well-known. But his conduct is 'nasty' to say in one word.

If the writer thinks he is the first one and a trailblazer, he isn't. But he knows what he is doing and I think he will do justice.

The timelines are royally messed up. And characters too have been written in silos. Atleast he is bringing them together. Some scenes from yesterday's episode were good.

Except that if Guha scenes are skipped, Sharabhanga n Suteekshna are skipped and much more, there is no need to highlight Ravana's virtues.

Ravana's virtues exist and they need to be shown but the proportion depends on the intent of the show. This is about Sita n Ram's relationship. Not about Ravana. But that said, yesterday's episode was fair.

Television is a writer's medium. The plot meanders according to writer's preferences.

Totally agree. They are rushing it way too much. all the intellectual conversations in Ramayana make it a powerhouse of knowledge and dharma. Highlighting them would enlighten everyone watching the show.

By restricting themselves to modern world definitions of women empowerment and feminism, the writers have reduced the amount of things they can convey when they are depicting Ramayan.
Ramayan has something for everyone. It talks of Raj dharma, human relationships familial and otherwise , ideal society, art of war, art of conversation, artha, kama, vedas, bhakti, prem..and so much more..

The writers need to have a belief in the audience and their capacity to take in some very intense discussions.
