Same, before the snake incident she was annoying and unrealistic as per those times, but after the maha episode, her character has grown on me and I think Lakshman-Urmila are the most believable and interesting couple in the show, surpassing even Ram-Sita IMO.

Shatrughan-Shrutakirti are cute and most authentic as per those times, but Bharat-Mandavi and Ram-Sita's relationships are written too modern for me to connect with.

Watched the episode in bits and pieces today. May be coz, it wasn't worth it.
Janak - who is known to be a Rajrishi, who as per Starplus, is someone who has given equal rights and say to all his daughters, has purposely been maligned today by the CVs just so that Sita could stand up for her sisters' rights which she always does anyway.

This entire episode seemed so unbelievable to me.

In fact, I expected Lakshman to be the one miffed with this proposal. AFAIK, most Ramayan shows had highlighted this aspect. But StarLakshman seemed to be all hunky dory with the proposal. 😆

This show has maligned nearly all the characters at some point just to show women empowerment and modernization in a time period where it was not relevant.

These four couples are really hard to connect to. They do not seem like treta yuga couples at all. Instead they are like a set of four college going couples with different types of romance. Lakshman and Urmila are a bit better than the rest.

There is so little actual material on Sita and her sisters before marriage this could have been a great way to add some characterization given there is good creativity and make a believable story with the Characters. But the CVs failed magnificently in this.

It is hard to believe as to how childish and immature Maandvi has been portrayed. Be it her complaint of not having 'the choice' afforded to Sita or her rejection of Bharath or the way she reacted to his apology.. Why would Maandvi think Bharath would be ready to marry her after such display? It looks like she gets to choose bur Bharath has no such luxury! The hypocrisy of it all.

For once I agree with Chandrabhaga. Maandvi just goes around complaining and changing her mind..It is hard not to want to give her a whack!!

Why is it that all four brothers and sisters have to have a love story? Is it not ok for atleast one of these pairs to have a marriage based on the fact that it was ordained such?

BTW, in what way would have King Janak said no to Raja Dasharath if Maandvi had persisted? Shruthkeerthi and Urmila's marriage would have stopped if Maandvi was not married (She being the elder one to them). It was totally unnecessary to have this complication with Bharath and Maandvi.

The good thing was that Lakshman was extremely happy with the proposal and I do like how Ram looks out for Bharath at all times, protecting, counseling and guiding him. There was a very beautiful thread of loyalty, respect and love that all the four brothers shared and I like the fact that this is shown in subtle ways.
But will they kinda hurry up with the next ceremony instead of having a no-story turn to a drama for 2 days?

PS: The prediction of Sita's vanvaas by the fortune teller does get mentioned by Sita herself in Ramayan. She quotes this incident to explain to Shri Ram how she would not be afraid of the jungle because she had already thought about it and had decided that she would like it in a forest with its tranquility. I am hoping that this is just a lead up to later and does not cause any unnecessary drama like today.

IKR... Still we all keep watching it for the actors, the screenplay, the effects, the bg scores etc.
Ever since the swayamwar was done, I honestly did not mind Ram-Sita scenes. CVs are bound to show such scenes in order to serve the idea of "modern retelling". Yeah, the Lakshman-Urmila angle now, has caught upto everyone. Even S-S with their mild no-conversation scenes is liked by all. And thats a beauty.

As Janak was portrayed by the makers as someone who is open about gender equality, this episode was contradicting to his character. And why? Only for Sita to point out his fault? It was disappointing IMO.

P.S.: U know, since StarSita is the voice for her sisters in this show, I wonder how will she react to Urmila being denied by Lakshman from accompanying them in the vanvaas.

I wanted to ask this since long...
Being Mithila Naresh isn't Janak supposed to be dressed a little more grandly...like Dashrath
I understand Mithila was a small kingdom and the makers want to point out a difference in Mithila and Ayoydhya but still...

Why is he dressed like a Vanvaasi?😕

Yes, he is also supposed to dress up like a king only. But as u said, it is mostly done to point out a difference between both the men. While one is all about Taat-baat and shaan, the other is all about prakriti and simplicity.

Janak, in reality, was known as a RajRishi. The makers took to this get up to highlight his 'Rishi' side.

Relationship-wise, I agree. I really loved the relationship of the two who can't be named or discussed, but are in your siggy & DP 😉

Bharat and Mandavi's relationship is a bizarre joke. Accident happens, Mandavi screeches, Bharat stands there with a confused expression, just letting it sink in, and then after she leaves, he expresses how he wasn't able to say anything. For some reason it reminds me of this song (tweaked of course)

Chalte Chalte yunhi takra jaata hoon main,
Baithe baithe kahin takra jaata hoon main,
Kahte Kahte hi takar ho jaata hoon main.
Kya yahi pyar hai, kya yahi pyar hai
Haan yahi pyar hai, haan yahi pyar hai

🤣

Check my PM regarding "they who cannot be named" rofl. 😉🤣

A bizarre joke just about sums up Bharat and Mandavi's relationship. Mandavi behaves like a spoiled brat and Bharat is like a clueless mama's boy.

This show is heavily inspired by Kavita Kane's Sita's Sister. There, Mandavi is an ambitious and selfish lady who never truly married Bharat and was jealous of all the attention Ram got in Ayodhya. She openly admits that she only married Bharat for material reasons, because she thought he would one day become the King.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if SKR's Mandavi heads the same direction after marriage.
