Not only are the rituals being dragged unnecessarily, but also some of the rituals shown were non-existent in those times, so they're only meant to drag the show.

At this pace, I doubt we'll ever reach the vanvaas track! 🥱

it has been registered for 67 episodes...i doubt they will complete in same...looks like 200episodes like daily soapsg
Moreover i have a doubt ...those days if a women is won in swyamvar she is just taken home they didnt have proper marriage or else we would be celebrating their wedding day too like ram janam and ravan killing etc

We do celebrate Shri Ram and Siya wedding although it is not celebrated in the same scale as Diwali or Dasherra. It is more a day of celebration at temples when the entire wedding is recreated. There is song and recitals.

Oh please, it passed 70 episodes last week. 😆 No Ramayan till date has been completed in 67 episodes, particularly when they're 20 min episodes. In my estimation, at this pace they'll go up to 500 episodes if they're including Uttar Kand too.

And no, swayamvar was never equivalent of marriage, even in those days. Swayamvar was a betrothal, and after the betrothal, the family of the groom was invited for the wedding, and only after the wedding did the groom's side take the girl home.

Valmiki writes out a very detailed wedding for Ram-Sita. You can read that sarga here.

However, the vedic rituals done in those days were quite simple and much shorter. The wedding was not prolonged over several days and rituals like it's being shown here. In my estimation, SKR is showing many regional rituals from different parts of India simply to prolong this track.

It was beautiful before, but now it's getting rather boring. I just want to wedding to be over so that they can return to Ayodhya and the actual story can start.

I know that this serial doesn't follow the usual texts, so I try not to cite those. But Dasharath was NOT the one who requested UMS for LBS. It was Janak who voluntarily offered their hands in marriage.

I know this serial wants to be modern. But in those times, women did NOT have rights - the luckiest a princess got was if her father decided to have an usual swayamvara for her where she chose from the available kings & princes. Sita too did not have any rights here - she would have belonged to whoever could have strung that bow. If any of the rulers present could have strung that bow, Janak would have had to give her to him.

In the original story, Janak just declared that UMS would be given in marriage to LBS, and that was the end of it. While their reactions can be imagined, chances are that even if they didn't like their respective husbands - tough to imagine - they'd still have welcomed the opportunity of continuing to live in the same household as Sita. Normally, kings w/ multiple daughters would have distributed them among different kingdoms to get a number of matrimonial allies. In this case, Janak picked one family since he knew that Ayodhya was adequate to support his family, and he didn't need ALL his daughters/nieces to become queens.

In Valmiki's Ramayan, there is no swayamvar as such. When Rishi Vishwamitra brings the 2 princes to Mithila, Raja Janaki is in the midst of a yagya. He explains to Rishi Vishwamitra about the condition of stringing the dhanush and laments that none have been able to do that.
He also explains how the failed kings dared to wage war and he had to time and again protect his kingdom.. then he requests the Rishi to allow Ram to string the bow which he does. So Sita is betrothed to Shri Ram as promised. Later versions made this more romantic with the swayamvar.
There is no question of choice for the women.

As for the other 3 sisters, I think as Rama' s marriage is fixed, their marriages are suggested by Rishi Vashist and Rishi Vishwamitra to which both kings agree immediately.

^^^^ Actually, it was Janak's idea. Vishwamitra/Vashistha asking for their hands is a Tulsidas/Ramanand Sagar invention

ok, got it, so originaly, it was janak who suggested the marriege of UMS to BLS, in ramcharitamanas and rs ramayan, it was vishwamitra who suggested that, and here, the suggestion was given by dasharath with the permission of vishwamitra and vashishtha.
