Lovely post. Ram and Sita conversation was beautiful. Indepence doesn't mean to live alone. It means you bind everyone together yet do what you wish. If you love someone it doesn't mean he/she becomes your private property. You have to give him/her freedom and not bind him/her with you. Loved the way Ram spoke and this shows His respect for women. But, we can't find such men in today's world. Today's men are more like Ravan who think they can do anything to get a woman they fantasize. Loved Ravan's entry too. He too was powerful but he misused his piwers. He was arrogant, rude and proud. And, that is why he couldn't lift the Shivdhanysh even though he was a Shivbhakt. Waiting to see his pride breaking to pieces during the swayamvar.

@Arshics I knew you will take this topic and you will bring out the contrast between Ram-Sita and Ravan-Rambha beautifully and I was waiting for your post so that I could put one important point to the alreaday explained things in your post.
I have always said women stands for Knowledge Wealth and Power or in other words Dharma, arth and Kama. And Dharma, Arth, Kama, Moksha are said to be Purusharth.
Look at the way they showed Ram-Sita today. Ram was standing atop the mountain and Sita comes from behind. In her own respectable way she tests him, and in equally respectable way he answers her. I loved the way he asked her she wanted to ask something, but hesitating and without fear she could ask him and he gives his words he will not be angry. I loved the halting way Sita asks the question of multiple wives and what about him. First Ram gives a generic answer, then she asks my question. That was a beauty. Her question was specifically to him. What about him. And he says he will have only one wife. She smiles. If you look Purusharth comes behind him. I mean a woman coming for a man means purusharth is coming for him. His qualities make every woman want to follow him. And when a woman comes behind him she is bringing along with her knowledge, wealth and power.
And look at Ravan. Seeing him women run away. She goes behind woman. Abuses them and goes away. He believes he has to go after Purusharth. Take it, use it and throw it. But then just like the curse he got one day the purusharth will go out of his control because there is a limit you can control something.
So in Ram and Ravan you can see the contrast of men. One who attracts Purusharth towards him, and other who thinks he can snatch and use Purusharth. Which one will last longer is anybody's guess.
Be a man behind whom Purusharth or an eligible good woman comes, than one who controls a woman.

Shruthi I am so glad you noticed sita standing behind Rama because I was struck by that too. How she stands behind him prodding him with questions that help him to reflect and understand himself better. And how tuned he is to her feelings that he can sense the unsaid
Contrast this with ravana dragging rambha behind she is screaming yet he hears nothing feels no compassion for her.

I want to comment yesterday but couldn't quite verbalise it. Thank you

Hi dear.
I saw the episode and the discussion between Ram Sia. It was a heart to heart convo but as for me, the timing was not right. It seemed misplaced. But of course to each his/her own. Secondly I wanted to ask what is identity actually? Our identity comes from our parents as they bring us in the world and make us Ready to face the world. Ram Ji ne kaha... Janak putri.. Sia said call me Sita... Yehi naam acha lagta hai mujhe... Kyu kaha hoga aise? Can a child s identity be made only if one comes out from under their parents name or shadow... Kya unko sath rakh ke identity not be established. I would always love to be called my Dad's daughter and this is where my disconnect is. I think the makers wanted to establish that one should make their own identity without any influence but they did not portray it correctly. As far as I think, we can always be known by our parents name and it's a beautiful thing, it does not put down your individuality, we are their own and they r ours so if this love is pure then what is the need to come out of their shadow. Of course this is what I feel hence the scene did not go down well with me. I however do respect what others feel too.

@neelakshi Sita's line itself said saath, still independent. Especially in case of marriage we need to understand that yes the son of Dasrath, is that qualification enough for Sita as an individual to marry him, Janak Putri is that enough for Ram to marry her.
Dasrath was fine having 3 wives. But even when situation demanded Ram circumvented the rule to create statue of Sita instead of marrying second time. See the difference of father and son. So how can individuality be neglected
So when relation happens though the initial contact happens via the relations you hold finally it is between 2 individuals. It is not between Son of Dasrath and Daughter of Janak though it is there, it is between Ram-Sita, their personal preferences, their value system, their thoughts, their actions. Though they are influenced by parents, still there is an independence about it. And partners don't jell together just with family name, their jell together only with their individuality which is very well embedded along with other aspects.
Not only marriage, any relation to someone outside your family is individual based. If you come to Krishna and Arjuna. It is Krishna and Arjuna not the prince of Dwaraka or Vasudev's son and prince of Hastinapur or Pandu's son.
And even among 5 brothers Krishna-Arjuna is special than anything. Why?. Individuality.

U Make me understand things well Shruti. Thank u. If I disappear without replying please understand it is due to post restrictions. I get your point on maintaining individuality of a person and also that when people marry, they marry individuals and it's imp. Too... Coz a son may or may not b like father as u explained. it's just that I could not relate to the objection of being called Janak putri. This was in general sense and not particularly for Sita. I still feel we can always be in shadow of our parents yet maintain our individuality.

@neela observe the scene. Actually Sita is giving him right to call her by first name 😃. It's a right given and Ram understand it as she says even in togetherness there is independence. If you see here she maintains her independent streak giving him information indirectly what kind of a woman she is. One who wants her identity even post marriage 😃. And Ram understands her completely when he tells her to ask her unsaid question. Sita wants to rule the heart of the man she marries and she has no interest in sharing it with anyone 😃. She makes her intention clear respectfully and politely. And he replies in affirmative in the same polite and respectful manner.
