He was maryada purushottham, a man who was always in control of his senses. He would never have gone racing down the hill to catch a glimpse of a woman, even if she was his soulmate. Ram adhered to principles and ideals of those times, and it was considered improper for a man and woman to meet, or even see each other intentionally, before marriage.

So Sita freely meeting Lakshman (and wanting to meet Ram) is also wrong and against her character. She'd have sent the meals through a guard or maid, not gone herself. After her marriage he is her devar, but at the moment she is unmarried and he is a royal prince in no way related to her.

This track itself is fictional, so I don't expect it to follow propriety, but the presentation of Ram and Sita in today's episode was definitely wrong and giving people a wrong message about the customs of those times, and the characters of Ram-Sita.

I have not read ramayana or seen any version..i know very less about it..but looking at the way ram was eager to meet sita I thought then itself that this is not how lord ram would have behaved...so i think other viewers too who have less knowledge about ramayan, even they must be having a vague idea about what's wrongly shown.

Looks like cvs have forgotten that this epic belongs to treta yug.😲

Seriously 😲😲 Is it a part of the cvs attempt to "connect" with the "younger generation"? 😛

Just saw the Sita swayamvar promo, and it actually exceeded my expectations. I'm still wary about how the actual episode will executed, but as far as promos go, I actually really liked this one.

For the first time, Sita looks like the princess she's supposed to be. The richness of the costume, the sparkling jewelry, the lovely braid entwined with flowers, and the veil over her head have completely transformed Madirakshi's looks. Before, she looked too simple and dull as Sita. She was pretty though not overly attractive, but in the promo she looks absolutely stunning. I still find her costume too revealing (the short blouse which exposes her entire midriff is not to my taste), but this is Nikhil Sinha's signature costume for all his leading ladies. Sati too dressed like this in DKDM, as did Parvathi. Sita looks a LOT better than she did till now, and Madirakshi's expressions too are spot on. The way she looks at Ram with full affection and devotion are reminiscent of Sitaji. Kudos to Madirakshi, she has improved a lot!

My only criticism of the promo is Ashish. I'm not fully satisfied with his expressions as Ram. The way he holds his head up high, he looks too proud to be Ram. Even after breaking the bow, Ram was supposed to look bashful and modest. He was not supposed to look proud, and I'm sure it was not intentional on the part of Ashish, but he really needs to improve his bearing and expressions as Ram. He needs to tone down his over-confidence and look more modest. Also, I think they overdid his makeup in the promo. He looks too pale, but his costume and jewelry are nice.

Let's hope the actual swayamvar track is not filled with the usual distortions. I don't care if they show a swayamvar like Tulsidas, or if they show a simple bow breaking like Valmiki. I just want it to be executed well.

Happy New Year, everybody!

So now they are nearing the Swayamvara stage?

One thing I'm wondering - will they show Ravan there at Sita's swayamvara failing to lift the bow, as some accounts have it?

I wouldn't be surprised. This show is almost a word for word adaptation of Devdutt Patnaik's Sita, which has Sita as Ravan's daughter (another theme probably gonna be explored in this show), so they may show Ravan at Sita's swayamvar. Also, DKDM showed it so they're probably going to repeat the same track.

Raavan being present in Sita's Swayambar is not part of Valmiki's Ramayana as far as i know. What about Tulsidas's is it a part of that?

I have seen some Ramayan clips - mainly southern w/ subtitles - that have had Sita as Ravan's daughter, and some w/ Ravan @ Sita's swayamvara. That was before the 90s, when the trend of making up your own mythos started.

While Ravan @ Sita's swayamvara might be a part of some literature, it does defy logic in one big way. At Sita's swayamvara, all of her suitors got to see her - it's not like she was hidden someplace only to be revealed to the winner of the contest. In any swayamvara, the bride was the prize, and one got to see her first before participating.

So had Ravan been at that Swayamvara, he would have seen Sita and known how she looks. Her beauty wouldn't have been a surprise to him when Shurpanakha came to him w/ that suggestion. The epic - no matter whose version - clearly has it that when Ravan along w/ Mareech saw Sita, he was enchanted and decided to put his abduction plan into action. Sita's beauty totally possessed him and he did everything that he did.

But had he been at the swayamvara, he'd have seen Sita as well, and then the same reaction would have happened. He would have tried to capture her even if he failed to lift the bow. There is no logical reason why he should have exercised restraint out there: he could easily have defeated all the kings there, and he did not know about Rama's power, so there was no deterrent there, the way there was when he heard of Khar and Dushan getting killed, along w/ the entire rakshasha clan in Panchavati.

I understand different stories and different versions, and usually have no issues digesting them, although stories that look anachronistic don't play well w/ me. But even worse than anachronistic is when they defy logic. The stories about Ravan being @ Sita's swayamvara are clearly illogical, as they fail to address the above issue. That's my main problem w/ it.
