If you judge them just chronologically, Ananda Ramayan would trump Tulsidas or Kamban. The only reason people give the latter more credibility is the CONTENT, rather than the era.

That's why I've always maintained that only 2 versions of the Ramayan can be claimed to be accurate. One being Valmiki, and another being one written by Vaishistha - apparently he too wrote a version. Either of these would be authentic. I don't give credence even to the version written by Vyasa, since that too was an yuga after the original events

hmm, seems reasonable.

Today they mentioned the source from where Sita going to Viswamitra ashram is adapted. It was too quick to read.. came as a banner during the show. I think it was Bhavabhuti's work or something. Whether, it is Bhasa or Bhavabhuti or any other scholar of the ages, its still a work of fiction because they have written Ramayana from their point of view..putting across their thoughts and imagination.

Yeah.. You can't predict anything with SKR nowadays. I was just waiting to see.. if they will show Lakshman going or not. Thank god.. they stuck to the storyline.

Thank you. I read that article. Very well covered - particularly the description of Ashwamedha yagna.

My only disagreement was the article stating that vegetarianism was considered the highest ideal. That was more defined by caste - Kshatriyas were expected to be non-vegetarian.

While vegetarianism was expected and not considered wrong for kshatriyas and shudras, since they fought in wars and did hard labor that required the extra energy, it also states in the vedas and bhagawat gita that regardless of caste and creed, purely on the basis of humanity a human being should not eat meat if he/she wishes to attain moksha in life. So on a human level, yeah eating meat was not considered wrong for these two castes, but on a divine level, it was not enough to attain moksha.
