Hey guys

We know that this serial is tossing in its own interpretation of Rama-Sita's relationship, and so it won't be true to any of the original epics. However, whenever it makes needless changes to the original epic, it's worth pointing that out. Be it characterization of the original characters (like Kaikeyi's status in the family) or events (like the story of Sudhava)

Feel free to use this thread to point out any distortions in the story wrt Valmiki. One thing - please follow forum rules, and avoid comparing this serial w/ any of the past serials on Ramayan - be it Arun Govil, Gurmeet or Gagan Malik. Only do textual comparisons w/ Valmiki's Ramayan, or any of his translations, such as Griffith

This show itself is an epic distortion. It would be a lot easier to point out what's right than what's wrong, because they're so few that I can count them off on my fingers, but I'll attempt to make a list of what's been totally wrong so far.

1) The way Shanta's story has been handled - Dashrath exchanging his daughter to have sons, Kaushalya's angst, etc.

2) Sita talking back to elders, including Gautam rishi (who's not even supposed to be in the story at this point) and now Parashuram. There is a clear line between "curiosity" and "disrespect" and this Sita has long since crossed the line. At times she is downright rude and impertinent, which she never was. Also, seeing her, a mere child, interfere in the political matters of Mithila was ridiculous and humorous.

3) Lakshman, Bharat and Shatrughan being mere weaklings in comparison to Ram, and Ram constantly saving them in Gurukul as if they didn't have the capability of protecting themselves.

4) The chronology of this show is off. Ram has returned from Gurukul but it's going to be shown as if 10 years passed before he met Sita, since Ashish still hasn't come.

5) Kaikeyi's characterization - I have no problem with showing her a bit insecure, since she was, but they're going a bit extreme with her having a problem with every interaction between Dashrath and Kaushalya. Why show her sympathetic to their cold relationship in the beginning, but suddenly jealous once they start spending time? They're not consistent with her character and it seems she changed overnight, and suddenly she can't even bear the sight of Kaushalya. Now the new promo, where she asks for Bharat to be made heir before Ram-Sita are even married, is way too rushed and out of context. A lot of time was supposed to pass after the marriage of the four brothers and sisters, before Ram was made heir. Seems the writers of this show can't make up their mind about Kaikeyi. They want to showcase her as a typical TV vamp. It's Star Plus after all!

6) As per the promo, the meeting of Ram and Sita is so OTT and typical Star Plus romance. Obviously it's not accurate as per Valmiki, RCM or any other version, but it's not that that bothers me. Back in those days, princes and princesses did not meet freely before marriage, so an arrow making its way towards Sita and Ram rescuing her like a knight in shining armor is rather unbelievable and like I said, OTT. 🤪 Ram wouldn't be in the same area as Sita, because she'd be in Mithila's private family quarters which no one would have access to, but of course SP's Sita is supposedly a "free bird" so she'd be all over the place.

In general, the characterization of Sita has disappointed me a great deal. They have altered her character way too much in their attempt to pacify the "feminist" viewers, but what's the point of calling her Sita when she is nothing like Sita? She is just another Star Plus heroine.

So far, Ram's character is fine (except for the occasional macho scenes which are OTT), but I know they're going to alter him before long.

Vrish, pefect topic, liked the name.
This is just a thought.
Did we expect them to follow the exact book version of Valmiki Ramayan?
The name is 'Siya Ke Ram'. They do mention Ramayan ka ek undekha pahelu.
Its obvious to get something different.
Many more pts will be added here as the show progresses. It's better to have them in one thread for easy reference for the contributor as well as the readers.

Much needed thread.

The way show is progressing ...I think we can use this thread for daily episode discussion.. Lol..

And honestly this not Ramayana...i Don't want to call it Ramayana...its just an another daily soap... Only character names r same as epic ...apart from that there is no connection...

OK none expected makers to follow RCM or valmiki Ramayana line by line.. But no one thought there will be this much distortion as well...
Distortion is a small word its ruthless butchering of epic...we can call this star plus version of Ramayana like we had star plus MB before...🥱🥱

The way the characters are being portrayed is unbelievable. Rude children, darsharath kaushalya characterisation shown is plainly wrong...
One has just to flip the pages of the ramayana to know what a great king he was...

The CVs don't seem to have an iota of idea how family members behaved with one another in those times...
Ram n his siblings just run n hug dasharath... Very rarely we see them touching feet n taking blessings...

Such instances make us lose the feel that we are watching an epic from a bygone era...
Then there is the absence of crowns on the prince's heads... Crown offered protection espcially in a situation like this- when dealing with weapons...
Nd Why vashishtha shown with open flying hair???Brahmins never left their hair open and loose... They used to tie their hair...

skills display was most stupid sequence ever...
Bharat lakshman shatrughna.. Were shown so weak... Lacking basic archery skills...😲

These r just few bloopers I could remember...apart from few mentioned above...
Haan how can I forget the new promo lol...whole promo itself is a big distortion...

Though I haven't watched Ramayan before I did feel quite odd that Sita is at times rude and always interfering in political issues. And, after watching the latest promo of the first meeting of Ram and Sita I don't know what to say. I know for sure that they never met in this manner since I had watched Devon Ka Dev and they showed Ram's entry during Sita's swayamvar.

Agree with your entire post, but especially this part!

No one expects any adaptation to follow RCM or Valmiki word for word. Creative license is fine as long as it's done for the small, insignificant scenes, but to show a major story with creative license is totally wrong. For example, it's nice to see a family scene or two that is fictional in story, but is sweet and keeps the characterization intact, but to show an entire track (like the Shanta one) by butchering all the characters involved is crossing boundaries big time! It's just not done, and nothing can justify it.

I was discussing this show with my friend the other day, and she was saying how previous adaptations of Ramayan were 85% accurate, 15% inaccurate, while this show is 15% accurate, 85% inaccurate. I don't mean to compare, but I'm just stating a fact. Inaccuracies in a show should be so few that we should be able to count them with our fingers, but when there are so many inaccuracies that we're counting the accurate scenes with our fingers, we know the show is going a totally wrong route.

Just like Star Plus' Mahabharat was renamed Starbharat, this show should be called Star Plus ke Ram, instead of Siya Ke Ram, or even Staraayan. 😆

The show in itself is a distortion. They have referred to like 300 versions themselves and are picking / choosing what all to put in SKR. The more dramatic points find a way sooner into the show.

New promo ......Shant Ramji gone for a toss! I get it he was also a warrior but I need a reference to see where it describes his warrior acts . Madi looks pretty though as Sia, let us see how she acts.

I have nothing against Ashish and Madirkashi. I am sure they are great actors individually and Ashish was good in RR, but it's the characterization of Ram and Sita I have major problems with. The actors only act what they're given, and Ram is being portrayed as a typical warrior prince, and his divine aspect is being totally ignored. Yes, Lord Ram was a warrior prince, but he was also the embodiment of peace, tranquility and joy. He always had a pleasant smile on his face, and his gait was charming and graceful. He was not the sort of prince who would do stunts on his horse and have a typical filmy romance with Sita.

As for Sita, she is supposed to match Lord Ram in character. Both of them were known for their calm, pleasant countenances. Sita was not a doormat, but she was demure and respectful to her elders, just as Ram was. Neither of them was outspoken or overly curious. Neither of them broke the rules and regulations of that era. I do not see that in Ashish or Madirakshi, and the fault lies with the CVs.

Also, I am hating the costume of Sita, which is way too modern and revealing. It's something I can find it any store today. It doesn't have the feel of treta yuga to it. Goddess Sita was always attired in beautiful silk sarees of various bright colors, while Lord Ram was known for wearing pitambara (yellow silk). Also, Sita's hair shouldn't be loose. Women did not have loose hair back in those days, as it was considered inauspicious. Sita's hair should be braided and adorned with a veil.

But this show has been having major issues with costumes since the very beginning, so I don't expect any better.
