Thanks for all the lovely comments. Sorry for being so irregular with the updates. I am trying to finish this story as early as possible. I am updating the next chapter in the following post. This was supposed to be the last one. But it became a bit long. Therefore I had to split it. This chapter is going to be a bit serious. Hope you will like it.
Part 11
“What made you think, we will allow you here?” Devi asked indignantly.
“I have the court papers with me. The court has asked us to stay together for six months to see if we can reconsider our decision. So here I am.”
Devi looked angrily towards Shaan.
“What is all this Shaan? You two were supposed to get divorced today. You have been living apart for 25 years. There was no reason for the court to force you to live together for another six months.”
“What can I say Bhabhi, Aastha put such a condition that the court asked us to reconsider the decision. She asked for half my property as alimony.” Shaan said, faking helplessness.
“And you didn’t object to it. Couldn’t you tell the court that she left you 25 years ago?”
“I told the honourable court that Aastha was asked to leave 25 years ago because she wanted to work. The court then found Aastha’s demands reasonable. Half my property was very little price for the emotional trauma she faced. Believe me, I pleaded with the court to be a bit lenient. The court then offered this condition.”
“You should have hired a better lawyer. Tej would have given you the contacts of the best lawyer in town.”
“But I don’t have a problem with the court order. Why should I risk losing my wife and my property when I could keep them both. This was such a great opportunity that I grabbed it with both my hands.” Shaan said with an expression of satisfaction over his face.
Devi looked at Aastha with contempt and said, “Where is your self respect now? What made you so greedy for Sabharwals’ money?”
“I dumped it at the nearby pond before entering. I have learnt that if you have to live with the Sabharwals, you should keep your self before self respect. I am sure you agree with this wholeheartedly. After all this is what you have been doing all these years. Am I right, Devi Bhabhi?”
“So you are going back on your promise, Shaan?” Devi asked.
“I have broken many promises in my life. This will be the one I shall regret the least.”
“In that case, I will have to ask Tej…”
“Shhh...Shaurya is coming. Do you want him to know what conditions you put before me?” Shaan whispered in her ears.
Everyone looked towards the stairs and saw Shaurya descend.
Devi immediately ran to him and said in a complaining tone, “Look Shaurya. The thing that we were fearing the most has finally happened. That woman has come back to destroy us.”
Shaurya gave her a quizzical look, “What are you saying Badi maa? I have heard your conversation. She is just following the court orders. And what makes you think she can destroy us. Do you have more confidence in her than us?”
Devi was surprised, “So, you don’t have a problem with her living in this house. Your Bade papa is out of town. Had he been here, he would never have let her step foot inside this house.”
“In that case Dad would have to leave this house and stay with her. I think this arrangement is better. 6 months will pass by before you know it. Besides, it is always better to keep your enemies closer.” Shaurya reasoned.
Not only Devi, but Kanchan, Gayatri, Alok, even Aastha and Shaan were surprised with Shaurya being so cool with Aastha staying at Sabharwal House.
“Come Aastha Tai ji, I will take you to your room.” Kanchan offered.
“Gayatri, ask your bahu to go to the kitchen and start preparations for breakfast.” Devi ordered.
“But Tayi ji, it is just six in the morning. If I go to make breakfast now, it will be cold by the time everyone eats it.”
“It’s fine Kanchan. Do as your Taiji says. I don’t want any tension in this house because of me. I can find my room on my own.” Aastha said to Kanchan.
“You are the biggest tension,” Devi muttered to herself. Then she announced loudly, “I am not feeling well. Once the breakfast is prepared, please send it to my room. Shaurya beta, can you please help me to my room.” She put a hand over Shaurya’s shoulders and bent forward.
“Sure Badi maa. Come let’s go. How many times have I asked you to take care of your health. You should leave some of the responsibilities to Gayatri Chachi and Kanchan instead of trying to do everything on your own. They are perfectly capable of running the house. This is your time to stay inside and take rest.” Shaurya said as he helped her lie down on bed.
Devi was surprised by Shaurya’s words. It hasn’t even been an hour since Aastha entered, and Shaurya was already talking about taking away her power. Devi started seeing red. As Shaurya was about to leave, she grabbed his hands tightly and said, “Shaurya, can you sit by my side for a few moments. I wanted to say something. I won’t take much of your time.”
“Sure Badi maa. You can take as much of my time as you please.”
“Look son. Don’t think I am trying to turn you against your mother, but I am just cautioning you. She is a cunning woman. She can influence everyone with her sweet words. Look how Shaan, Gayatri, Kanchan, everyone has come under her spell. You should be careful around her. She will try to poison your mind against us. Please don’t get swayed by her words. You could yourself see how selfish and irresponsible she is. She didn’t care about our reputation and lied before the court about us just because she wanted our money. Shaan becomes totally powerless before her. Promise me you won’t do the same.”
“Why do you need a promise every time Badi maa? Don’t you have faith in me and my love for you? What makes you think I will ditch you all and support her when she is wrong. Trust me, I will never support the wrong side. Now take rest.” Shaurya almost forcibly released himself from her grip and left.
Shaurya slowly walked towards his Dad’s room. He stood by the side of the door and peeped inside. Aastha was alone in the room, arranging the things. For a moment Shaurya went 25 years back in time when she used to put the room in order the same way, and he would stand behind her holding a corner of her dupatta.
Aastha saw Shaurya standing there.
“Shaurya, please come in.”
“No, I was just passing by. I have some work to do.”
“If you have something important then I won’t stop you. But tell me one thing, were you this hesitant to enter this room when your father was living here alone?”
Shaurya didn’t answer.
“Please Shaurya, don’t create boundaries for yourself because of me. I know you have lots of questions for me. I am prepared to answer them.”
Shaurya walked inside. Then went and picked up one of the boxes kept on the shelf and said looking at it. “Dad has kept all your memories in these boxes. Your pictures, your jewelry. The last 25 years, he didn’t spend with me but with these memories. He spent hours looking at these and drinking, not caring the least about what was happening in the world outside.”
Aastha came and stood by his side, “I am sorry Shaurya. I don’t want to blame anyone else for the way things turned out for you because you were my responsibility. Would you believe it if I say that I feel tremendously guilty for putting you through such a childhood?”
Shaurya turned to look at her face. There was sincerity and genuine concern. He tried to look for the cunning woman Badi maa was talking about but couldn’t find any traces.
Shaurya felt he was breaking down from inside. He went and sat on a corner of the bed to gather himself together. Then asked, without looking at his mother, “What made you return to this house when you did not do it in 25 years? Dad could have stayed with you at the flat.”
“Even the strongest person falls weak at times, Shaurya. At that time you need some support from outside. That person does not need to take up arms on your behalf. Only be there to tell you that you are not alone. For 25 years, I did not have that support. Today your Dad..”
“So all these years Dad and you could not find a reason to sort out your differences even for the sake of your son.”
“Yes, we are guilty of that. The doors to this house were closed on me, and neither of us tried enough to get them opened. You and your Dad were left on one side of it, and I on the other.”
“Yes, you are right. I was never reason enough for you.” Shaurya said, trying hard to prevent his voice from choking.
Aastha gently took his hand and held it between hers. “You know children can be your biggest strength as well as the biggest weakness. Years ago, I could not fight enough because I fell weak thinking about you. You were so small. I thought you might get hurt in the fight between your family and me. I admit that I was wrong.” Aastha’s voice was cracking, she paused a bit to clear her throat and then said, “You wanted to know what made us sort our differences all of a sudden. The reason is you. This time you became our biggest strength. When we saw how much effort you put to stop this divorce, we could not let it all go in vain. We couldn’t let you down once again.”
“And I get no credit in all this.” A chirpy voice made both of them look towards the door. Anokhi was standing there with a smile beaming across her face.

Firstly I really liked how Aastha went all sarcastic with Devi. That woman is too vile & then Shaurya's entry in to the scene & Devi getting the next shock when he didn't disagree to have his mom at SM 😆 Finally, her tension & 'manipulation ki Devi' active mode with the 'promise me Shaurya' rant 🤪
Such a weird s*** woman. She actually asks a lot from Shaurya as promises & when she wants him to fulfill them, ends up doing a drama in the show too. I liked him saying that he won't support any wrong because that clearly meant, if Devi is wrong she'll be taken as wrong! 🥳
Shaurya walking inside Shaan's room with his mom in it felt odd ofc but that conversation was warm. There's no justification she can give for leaving him at a tender age & I like how you built up their equation slowly & the way they answered eo's quizzes.
