So somehow I've missed reading this story & glad I found this again & realised I have missed out on few chapters plus the last updates were delayed too right? Its kay, take your time & update 😊

So.. Coming to the plot, Shaurya & Anokhi are the cutest team. How adorable is their banter & then each other manao-fying with the sweetest tricks, first the see-saw (My fav scene of ShaKhi) & then gola & finally the horror movie 😆

That was so adorable, I could see Shaurya giving shocked glances & goign petrified seeing ghosts on big screen. Anokhi taking his photo was the cutest thing.. Plus their budding feelings are something else 💙

Waiting to read next parts eagerly plus I really enjoy reading about Aastha & Shaan here. Their chats are soft & interesting..

Part 10

“Shaan Sir. When did you arrive?” Anokhi asked.

“Last night. You came so late that I couldn’t meet you. And when Devi Bhabi came I was in the washroom.”

“What!” Anokhi almost choked on her pancake.

“Shaan. Why are you joking with the girl when she is eating. Look what you did.” Aastha said, as she gently massaged Anokhi’s back to stop her from coughing.

“It's okay, Mam. I am fine. I am getting late now. I have to leave.”

“Please wait a few minutes. I am also going to SIAC. I shall drop you.” Shaan said.

“I am so sorry Sir, but I have some work in the canteen. I really need to leave right away.” Saying this Anokhi got up.

“By the way, how was your date last night? Aastha told me about it.”

“It was not a date. Shaurya Sir was feeling low, so we decided to watch a movie.” Anokhi said, trying to hide her embarrassment.

“Don’t get me wrong. You don’t have to be a couple for going on a date. I dated so many girls before settling on Aastha.” Shaan looked at his wife and winked.

“Anokhi, you don’t have to stand here and listen to his nonsense. You better leave quickly or your Pammi aunty will cut a day’s salary.” Aastha said.

After Anokhi left, Aastha looked at Shaan angrily, “Why did you lie to her that you came last night?”

“I was just setting up an alibi.” Shaan said, taking another bite from his pancake.

“Whatever, I don’t want to drag Anokhi into all this.”

“I wouldn’t need to lie if you had allowed me in last night.”

“There are certain boundaries that we shouldn’t cross. Not until..”

“How much longer do I have to wait? 25 years of dry spell. Do you know how it feels?” Shaan sighed.

“You are speaking as if I had been sleeping around. You were still living in the safe shelter of your home. Do you know how I was judged every time I spoke to a man? So many labels were stuck on me without even doing anything, and none of them were exactly pleasant.” Aastha never got a chance to share these painful memories with anyone before. But today she could not stop herself.

“I am sorry. I didn’t mean to dig out your wounds.” Shaan said, apologetically.

“No, that’s fine. I am sorry that I overreacted. I will go and get your coffee.” Saying this, she went inside the kitchen.

Six days later at SIAC.

Shaurya was discussing the syllabus with a few first year students. They were standing in the corridor when someone poked him from behind. He turned around to find Miss Bhalla smiling at him. He didn’t know whether to feel happy or angry. The past few days he had been busy with work and never got a chance to meet Anokhi outside class. Today she herself came to him. But he noticed the inquisitive expression of the students seeing their senior poking their professor.

Shaurya made his tone as serious as possible and said, “What is this behaviour Miss Bhalla? Is this the way to call your professor? Have you lost your voice all of a sudden?”

The next moment he regretted his words when Anokhi opened her mouth. In a barely audible, hoarse voice she said, “I am sorry Sir, I tried to call you, but you couldn’t hear me. Therefore I had to..”

Then she extended a package towards him.

Shaurya frowned. “What is this?”

“I heard from Shaan Sir that you asked him to arrange sandals for me when they broke on my first day. Since I don’t like taking favours, I needed to return these.”

Shaurya looked at her incredulously. “It is very honourable of you to try and not take favours Miss Bhalla, but can you tell me what I am going to do with your sandals?”

Anokhi did a facepalm. Then said, “I am not stupid. Open the package and see it first. I got them for you. Wear them and see if they fit. Otherwise I will have to return them.”

“Who asked you to spend your money on shoes for me?”

“Why will anyone tell me what I have to do? And why don’t you ever appreciate what I do for you?” Anokhi said, getting upset.

“Ok fine. I am accepting this return of favour. Now come with me.”

Anokhi followed Shaurya to his chamber. He handed over a bottle of medicine to her. “Take this. Mix it with warm water and gargle.”

“Thanks, I will go to the canteen and get warm water.”

“Wait. You don’t need to go anywhere. I will ask the peon to get warm water.”

After the warm water was brought, Anokhi poured it into a glass and mixed the medicine. As soon as she took a sip of it, she spit all of it on Shaurya who was standing in front of her.

“What the hell. Are you out of your mind? Sometimes you drop sandal on me, sometimes noodles and now hot water. Do you think I am a garbage bin?” Shaurya said, trying to clean his blazer.

“I am sorry Sir, the water was too hot.” Anokhi said guiltily as she tried to wipe his blazer.

“Where is your common sense, Miss intelligent? Aren’t you supposed to go to the washroom and then experiment with the water instead of creating a mess here.” Shaurya said, getting more irritated.

“I said I am sorry. How many times do I have to apologise?”

Shaurya didn’t say anything. Just directed her to the washroom.

“Ok, I am going. Try your new shoes in the meantime.”

Shaurya took the shoes out of the package. They were of the same design that he usually wore. But his shoes were quite expensive. How could Anokhi afford them. For a moment, he was tempted to check the brand but stopped himself immediately. No matter the brand, he was going to wear them. But as soon as he wore them, he realised how uncomfortable they were.

Anokhi came out and asked, “Do they fit? I am sorry I could not get expensive ones. These are just cheap copies.”

Shaurya tried to look fine as his feet struggled in the new shoes. “They fit perfectly. Thanks for the gift. And don’t feel bad about the price. It is the intention that matters.”

“No, first you get up and take a walk wearing them. Jump around, run. That is how I check my shoes before buying.”

“Don’t you think I will look like a clown if I go out, jump around and run for no apparent reason? I am telling you they are fine. Don’t worry about them. But what was the hurry to buy shoes for me. You could have got them later when you have saved enough.”

“I forgot to inform you. I am leaving SIAC. Aastha Mam has to leave your flat by tomorrow and I have nowhere to stay.”

“What? And you are telling me now. Why does your Aastha Mam have to leave tomorrow?”

“Today is the divorce hearing. She will have to leave after the verdict.”

Shaurya dropped on his chair with disappointment. Anokhi went near him and put her hand on his shoulders. Shaurya looked up and said, “Will you also leave me?”

Anokhi looked away and said, “I have no other option. I cannot afford a PG. There is no vacancy in the hostel.”

“The hostel rooms will fall vacant once the third year students leave. That will take a few months. Till then I will pay for your PG.”

“I told you I can’t take any favours from anyone.”

“You can take favours from your Aastha Mam, but not from me.”

“Aastha Mam is different. She is like my mother.”

“Do I not mean anything to you?”

“Well, let me see. Since Aastha Mam is like my mother and you are her son. That would mean..”

“Shut up. You don’t have to mean anything. See, I am not doing any favours on you. We need such bright students like you in our college. You can return the money when you have earned enough.”

“I don’t want anyone’s debt on me. I have applied to a few other colleges. Some of them are less expensive than this. They have vacancies in their hostels as well. Tomorrow I will apply for the TC.”

“You are not going anywhere. I will not let that happen.” Then Shaurya held Anokhi’s hand and said, “Come with me.”

“But where are we going? I have a class after this.”

“When you are leaving why are you so worried about missing a class?” Shaurya said as he directed her to get into his car.

Soon they found themselves on the court premises.

“What are we doing here?”

“Shut up. Let me find your Shaan Sir and Aastha Mam.”

Shaurya soon located them coming out of the courthouse. He went to them with Anokhi following behind.

“Shaurya Anokhi, what are you doing here?” Shaan asked.

Anokhi shook her head helplessly to indicate she was as much in the dark as them.

“I brought her here. Do you know how your decision is destroying the career of this girl?”

“I cannot make any head or tail out of your words. How will our decision affect her career?” Shaan asked.

“She has no place to stay once her Mam leaves. How will she continue her studies in SIAC?”

“I cannot stay here for eternity Shaurya. I have my job and my parents in Kapurthala.” Aastha tried to reason.

“I know your job is more important than everything else for you. What if I offer you a job at SIAC? Come on, you consider Anokhi as your daughter. You could not do anything for me, but at least do this much for her.”

Seeing Shaurya’s desperation, all three broke into laughter.

After controlling herself, Aastha said, “Thank you so much for the offer Shaurya. I promise to give it serious consideration. And don’t worry, I will make sure that nothing happens to Anokhi’s career.”

“Shaurya Sir, you don’t know how much Aastha Mam has done for me. I would never want to force her to change her life’s decisions because of me.” Anokhi said.

“Don’t worry. She will not change her decisions for anyone.” Saying this, Shaurya hurriedly left from there.

Seeing him walk away, Anokhi commented, “Those shoes must be biting him real bad, I can tell from his walk.”

Aastha and Shaan looked at her, perplexed.

“What did you say to him to rile him up so much?” Aastha asked.

“Nothing, just a harmless joke.” Anokhi tried to act cool. She never expected Shaurya to get so worked up at the news of her leaving SIAC.

“You are getting naughtier by the day.” Aastha chided her gently.

Early next morning, even before the sun greeted the world with its vermillion hues, the constant ringing of the doorbell awoke everyone from their deep slumber.

Kanchan opened the door and shrieked with joy.

“Who is it, Kanchan? Why are you making such a terrible noise early in the morning?” Devi asked from behind. As she reached the door, Devi Sabharwal felt the ground shift below her feet.

Aastha greeted her with a smile, “Good morning Devi Bhabi. Look, I kept my promise. I left Shaan’s flat. From now on, I am going to stay here.”
