Just quickly wanted to point out something about today's episode while drawing parallels with my old post regards to the episode of 23rd March! If you remember, that was the episode where Saras was falsely accused by the villagers for a cardinal sin of killing a cow and Kumud had strongly voiced her opinion in front of the priest and everyone else! That episode reflected a lot about values as to how it played a role in forming one's character and personality and most importantly values instilled by their parents especially mothers. Today, it was the same situation where Kumud and Saras were being accused of something totally wrong to begin with and again the villagers failed to see the larger picture and issue at hand! And again we saw interesting portrayal of values instilled by the mothers of these characters!
A)Dukhba - Motherly figure to Kumud whose values were apparent in Kumud's act of treading along the right path! Knowing the reality of Pramad, she supported Kumud to give him another chance as a dutiful wife but not at the expense of risking her life or losing her self respect. She always told Kumud that doors of their house and their hearts are always open for her incase she was to return back to them! Very rarely we see that happening as often girls are taught to stick through thick and thin of her marriage and never return to her parents' house! But Dukhba had clearly stated that for Kumud, that should not be a deterring factor, rather she should come back to her family for support like herself and her brother (Vidyachatur) had supported her! Today, when Pramad crossed all the limits, this is when Kumud raises her voice to defend herself, to defend Saras, and most importantly her father whose values were questioned! Like Kumud rightfully mentioned, it was her father's values that she had been trying for all this time to give Pramad another chance!
B) Saras's deceased mother- It is evident that her values are very much alive and intact as Saras's actions have always upheld that notion! He would never do something that would go against her teachings and will never break promises given to her! She is that one person who deeply affects Saras despite her not being physically present! Saras had promised her mother that he would set things straight in Kumud's life and in her in-laws but not as his lover! His sole purpose to stay in Kumud's in laws was to protect Kumud and to make things smooth between her and Pramad promising that he would leave the day Kumud is safe. He stood by his promise and never we saw him eyeing Kumud in a manner that would taint their relationship or cause trouble in her married life! He was there for her every step of the way and yesterday was no exception and Kumud pointed that out brilliantly!
C) Saubhagyavatidevi- I have NO words for this woman; the one who is blinded by the wrongs of her son and failed to see the rights of her own daughter, how could one expect her to stand up for daughter-in-law! Since day 1, she has been acting like a hypocrite pendulum and today it was the same when she questioned Kumud and later asked her to not to file complaint against her son! She did not teach Pramad to be the way he his but her constant support of her son in his wrongs is not any less either! Even Pramad knows that despite his 100 wrongs, he would be able to coax his mother into believing anything as if she isn't blinded already! Despite having everything out in the open, she chose to stand with her son which makes me question her own values and morals!!! By constantly supporting Pramad, she becomes guilty by default!!!
And for so called Agni Pariksha, Kumud slammed the answer on everyone's face perfectly! If she was impure, she would have been burnt alive yesterday and if Saras had such ill intentions and it wasn't for his values, he probably would have crossed his limits while staying under the same roof as Kumud in her in-laws! And what a "perfect" punishment announced by the villagers who failed to see that Kumud had already given Agni Pariksha and for them, Pramad's imprisonment became bigger punishment than what they had in mind for Kumud only because she, being a woman, chose to exercise her rights!
** Special mention to Jenny for powerful and flawless performance in today's episode! **
