Reemz, thank you for this topic! I have always enjoyed reading your posts.
I have nothing more to add because you have already said everything I wanted to, but its really surprising to see some criticizing Jen's acting ability when she is one of the very few actresses who can pull of ANY scene. She is so good that words fall short to describe her.. Kumud is like a breath of fresh air for me. She is different and Im loving her more and more with each episode!

Reemz, I have to agree with you here! Even though, the show in general has not caught my fancy, I think Jennifer is just perfect for the role of Kumud! She is in fact the USP of the show!

And for all those who are saying that she is not bubbly (I am assuming in some other thread)...the character of Kumud is supposed to be of a very high-minded, intellectual and serious girl. That is how the author of the novel had concieved her and that is how SLB has portrayed her! (Watch the movie SaraswatiChandra and notice Nutan's character...you will understand what I am trying to say!)
Jennifer not just has the physical attributes to play the role (except for the mindless styling that I think is the creative's doing!) but has that certain graceful and dignfiied look about her which makes her a sure shot hit for the role!
Personally speaking, I am sick and tired of seeing over-enthsiastic, chirpy heroines who talk nine to the dozen and generally act like they are 7 year olds...its very refreshing to see a real woman as the heroine!

I really do try to watch each episode with an open mind without that previous bias towards Jen but I automatically end up concentrating on how she's acting and reacting. She has a very strong screen presence as well. I would have no qualms in admitting if I found someone else just as spectacular but so far Jen really has been stealing the show. I cannot imagine anyone else in this role and not just because of what I've seen in this past week but because I know that as the story progresses there will be scenes which only an actor of Jennifer's calibre can perform to.

I've only seen the songs from the movie and heard about Kumud's novel character sketch from friends who have read it. I think SLB has made some very apt changes to her too. If I'm not wrong her character in the novel is quite meek and docile?! While Kumud in the show is very headstrong.

I truly dislike the word 'bubbly'. I really don't like characters that are happy-all-the-time, OTT and just SO DAMN LOUD! ..Because they are unrealistic..and are there just for the sake of an angry young man to fall for them. I am so glad Kumud is not like that. Initially I thought she would be, but she's not, as we've seen in this past week 😊

Plus, there's a difference between being a 'bubbly' person, and being laid-back/happy-go-lucky. Zoya from QH is happy-g-lucky' & that is why I love her so much. Kumud is mature and practical..and I'm sure I'll love watching her more and more as the show progresses!

Hey Farzana! Another familiar face :))

I think I'm more convinced not from what I've already seen from her but from what I know I'll see from her.

LOL!! There have been the odd 'bubbly' characters I have enjoyed watching but even I hate that word a lot. It's such one-dimensional word to use for any character! Hence I was shocked that they used the word for a layered character like Kumud. She hasn't showed any signs of bubbliness as far as I know. She has a light side for sure but not immature...not yet anyway.

You are so right Reema .Exactly my point. Why can't people get out of their confines and see the world as it is?! Kumud has her own identity and a very strong one. She is very strong headed with high morals, pride and self respect. She is intelligent, practical and yes mature! What is wrong in being mature?! Like I don't understand. Why does she have to act like a goofball to look innocent when she can do that with just one look? Hailing from a village she is no less infact far more confident than many city bred girls. The kind of confidence that comes with wisdom. She truly is a woman of substance. And enough on her clothes already. The team of SC have worked for almost 2 years to get everything together, casting costumes etc you think they will not pay attention to the lead's clothes? She has a perfect toned body and the clothes look very good on her.She is the lead in the show and hence was given a look different from Kusum and Kumari. So?

Coming to the actress Jennifer Winget, I totally agree with Reema. She is a powerhouse of talent. She has got into the skin of the character like no one else on the show. Be it the body language, postures, expressions..she has been bang on in each and every scene of hers. Why else do you think Mr Bhansali picked her? Surely he knows more about what and who he wants for Kumud than any of us here , right? As an actress, I think Jenny is one of the prettiest faces on television. She looked fab opposite Gautam in the promos and press conference.. Just can't wait for Monday :D

This is role of a lifetime and Jenny is doing her part with so much honesty.. I hope she gets acknowledged in all the award ceremonies this year.

@Reemz, the novel is set in 18th century Gujrat...so for that time and period, the author had actually made Kumud to be a progressive woman! (I have read the English translation of the Novel...its considered to be a masterpiece in Gujrati Literature)...She is educated (which in itself is a surprise, because girls in general were not educated at that time), cultured and quite bold for that time...that is why she exchanges letters with her bethored and even meets him before marriage...now in 18th century middle-India, that would have been an unthinkable thing to do!

The only meek thing she does is marry the man whom her family choses for her...but that too happens only when SC betrays her trust. She marries in rebound, not out of helplessness!
Hence, I don't think that SLB has really changed Kumud's original character...he has simply adapted her for the 21st century!
Whatever the case...I do feel that while the overall show suffers from various problems, Jennifer is perfectly cast in the role! She is not just very pretty to look at but has an amazing range of acting! Very rare in today's daily soap leads, who seem to excel in just one type of performance! Either the long-suffering Bahu or the chirpy, OTT girl in love!
Kumud on the other hand seems quite believable and relatable till now!

Awesome post!
I could not have agreed with you more on this.
I love Jennifer's acting and undoubtedly she is the best choice for Kumud. I like the way her character is soo different from all of today's other protagonists. And I'm sure this will be a different story :)
