Now excuse me if I am demeaning anyone's IQ here but even though most of us only see TV heroines as either 'docile' or 'bubbly', Kumud is neither. Let's just get that in to our brains, Kumud is NOT bubbly. She does not phudak around, she does not talk non-stop, she does not get herself in to all sort of messes and nor does she make clumsy mistakes. She is a level-headed & practical young woman, quite proudy with her nose slightly up in the air but all in good innocence but above of all she has this serenity and almost mysterious feel to her. She talks with power in her voice, she demands respect...not for petty arguments but because she values her and her family's respect highly.

Jennifer is not just any actress on the block, she has been in the industry for many years from a very young age and if there is any one from the leading actresses on TV who understands the nuances of the character, it's her. How anyone can question her ability is beyond me because this girl acts with such an oomph. Do you not see the pierced eyes when she plays the hurt Kumud? Do you not see the spark when she's in a mischevious mood? Do you not feel WOW when she speaks with a commanding voice.

I have probably seen more layers in Kumud's character in this one week than I have seen in a protagonist of 500 episodes. Please stop insulting the sketch of the character by putting her down as a 'bubbly' character because she really is not. She has a sense of childlike mischievousness but she is a grown woman with a curious charm.

This is it. Ditto!!
I totally agree with you.
Thank you for making this post.
I do not know how people started assuming that all the leading ladies of the TV should be bubbly, chirpy, clumsy and what not.
Kumud is a mature, suave, respectful and has a very strong personality which is new to this current TV era. I guess people are having hard time to accept that. Oh well, here comes Kumud Sundari, and I am totally enjoying and loving her.
And about Jennifer Winget, if she cant act than I dont know who can. She is perfect as Kumud. Period!

BRAVO! Thank you for explaining to all what kumud is all about. Kumud is the proud, sensible educated girl. She is not all about running around and laughing like so many leading characters in shows. She is different, I mean other heroines would have had a hundred crying scenes after reading Saras's rejection, but she shed a few tears and immediately thought of her families respect and taught saras a lesson
Jenny has portrayed this character so well, when she was talking to saras, I was applauding her because this is something we haven't seen from a leading heroine before.

Reemz, I have to agree with you here! Even though, the show in general has not caught my fancy, I think Jennifer is just perfect for the role of Kumud! She is in fact the USP of the show!
And for all those who are saying that she is not bubbly (I am assuming in some other thread)...the character of Kumud is supposed to be of a very high-minded, intellectual and serious girl. That is how the author of the novel had concieved her and that is how SLB has portrayed her! (Watch the movie SaraswatiChandra and notice Nutan's character...you will understand what I am trying to say!)
Jennifer not just has the physical attributes to play the role (except for the mindless styling that I think is the creative's doing!) but has that certain graceful and dignfiied look about her which makes her a sure shot hit for the role!
Personally speaking, I am sick and tired of seeing over-enthsiastic, chirpy heroines who talk nine to the dozen and generally act like they are 7 year olds...its very refreshing to see a real woman as the heroine!

I have loved those characters myself once upon a time but Kumud cannot be termed as the typical bubbly girl who likes to fill everyones life with happiness. She is very practical but at the same time she has this alluring personality which sets her apart. Lets say she is a true SLB heroine with that special aura.

I don't understand where they got this bubbliness from? Have we all been watching the same show? Just because she likes to play a light-hearted game with her badi maa, it does not make her bubbly. Just because she has a prideful humour, it does not make her bubbly.

@Red: That sums it up :)

Though I do love everything about Jennifer as an actress, it's her dialogue delivery which impresses me the most. She was mouthing those dialogues with so much conviction in the video conference but at the same time you could sense Kumud's vulnerability which came out in her eyes.
