Now I am going into a long-winded "analytical response" to the bold comment.

Do women like Gayatri exist? Yes, they do.

Do mothers like Gayatri exist? Yes, they unfortunately do.

I have seen and interacted with women who are so focused on obtaining happiness from money and material comforts that they forget about the happiness that comes from the smaller things in life. This undoubtedly transfers over to their parenting, which often leads to their children going astray, becoming spoiled brats with criminal tendencies. Granted that I may have exaggerated things a bit to up the drama quotient for the story, but the basic bare-bones characterization of both Gayatri and Mayank is based off of real people that I have had the unfortunate experience of meeting or hearing about.

The reason I wrote the chapter the way I did was to give the full backstory behind why Gayatri and Mayank share the relationship they do, and why Kabir and Karan are so different from their older brother, despite being biologically related. I wanted there to be a convincing aspect behind the evil characters in this story and the flashback was supposed to paint a strong reason for why Mayank is the way he is. It's all about upbringing. I hope I managed to portray that aspect successfully rather than just making Gayatri and Mayank out to be total criminals and psychopaths, which they undoubtedly are (but even they have their own reasons for being this way).

I purposely ended where I did to keep everyone on their toes. 😈

She fell in love with her first child and just couldn't see past that.

Usually we consider a mother's love to be infinite, but clearly Gayatri only had a limited supply of love that she could give. After all, the love in her marriage fizzled out after the birth of her first child as well. She seems to only have the capacity to love one person at any moment in time; first it was her husband, after that it was Mayank.

Prakash too is at fault for convincing her to go through with the pregnancy that she didn't want, but it's not like she was completely opposed to the thought of a second child. She just was surprised by the news and afraid of how another child would impact her already shaky marriage.
