So true! when you look at it from a mature point of view, this is what will come to our minds.. but you know, I feel, before there were cities, there were villages. and hence, due to plain ignorance, culturally the structure of the villages remained the same. For many villagers, its their way of life, a life that they are, naturally used to! Till you have actually grew up with all the facilities or have become used to it, you will not appreciate the difference or feel the need for a change, because you are soo used to the way of life, in the villages, living as one of the villagers. You know, as Shail was saying, the people in the villages are used to such a life, they don't know what its like, or the convenience of having a proper washroom at their houses and whats its like living in electricity.. in sanitation and all those other facilities that we city people are soo used to, and often, take in for granted!

Only WHEN they themselves feel the need or requirement of such facilities only then they would revolt for change. but often times, they get subdued. You know, being the head, its the Pradhan's responsibility to ensure these available facilities are brought to them. In my opinion, the reason why it is not followed through by them is because, the money that they probably receive from the government to get these things going, they misuse it, unfortunately. Also, I think, the Pradhan's thinking also might be this way, that once the villagers are given the facilities, what if their needs increase, one by one, and money keeps going out of their pockets. See the audacity of his son! He walks around like he owns the place, does what he pleases, as he knows he wldnt get into any trouble for it.

Basically, no one knows what change feels like, till any of the villagers tried living in the city. When you have something to compare with then only you would realize the difference and feel it too. and understand the need.

The way we think, is like Gunjan. It boggles her that people there are okay with living like that, and are so comfortable with it. She wants change for them, because she knows the benefit of living with the change and is aware about its convenience! She wants people to experience it too, for many reasons. hence she is fighting for it.

The question here, isn't about why they can't have a washroom here.. but the question here should be.. how aware are the people in the villages about the convenience of having a washroom and electricity.

As humans, they may think about wanting/preferring it, but actually living with it, and then not truly would make them realize the difference. Till then.. expectation of change.. is a far out cry within our villages. :) Just a sad truth! :/

I agree. Backward thoughts pull our people down. Anyone that even tries to make a change happen is indeed a great person. Gunjan's courage is remarkable and it also sends out a message to today's youth that nothing is impossible, if you try you will sooner or later bring about a change. This track is motivating and truly inspiring though Mayank and Gunjan's romance and togetherness would make it much better!

Hehe 😆 You guys caught me! 😆 I actually am. My degree is in Public Health (Bachelor of Science). From an very young age, I wanted to become a doctor and go to our villages in India, treat them for free and teach them how to live healthy lives, and also teach them to take care of their sanitary conditions.

I moved to the US 14 years ago, in college, realized the education system tho is good for medicine, the structure did not seem so right to me. Study is too fast paced, lots to memorize (which is okay), but the thing I did not like was, the amount of time given between memorizing and taking exam is pretty short. So even if you can learn it and do well on exams, for the long run its possible for you to forget. If the base is not strong, then no tree can withstand standing for long, right?

So I understood, my interests, though was towards being in the medicine field, I was drawn more towards taking care of people, within the community, rather than one patient at a time. This is when I came across Public Health, and which also defines it too! It is designed to focus on the health needs and requirements within a community. Public Health previously was responsible for eradicating Small Pox, prevention of Chorela, TB and all those other infections foodborne and waterborne diseases.

Its a big umbrella that covers a vast sector of different branches within the program. Amongst them, the one that most attracted towards me was, Health Services and Nutrition. I really want to work on prevention of Obesity which is on the rise everywhere.

Once I get my Registered Dietitian degree, I want to work with kids (and parents) from small in schools educate them about healthy eating so that, once they reach their teens, they are well informed about the proper food choices they should make and choose the foods, accordingly.

I haven't yet, forgotten my dream to help the villagers, in the villages. But as I am older now, I understand, to bring a change within a community, the COMMUNITY has to WANT the change! For that we need proper guided support, and also corporation from everyone in the villages. This is something I shall work on, once I have enough resources to be of help to them and also learn about how can I contribute to their sanitary conditions after learning about the ecosystem and environment there. I have studied environmental health too, so I know a little.. but each place is unique to their own ground. So, research is necessary, before action can be performed! 😊

I have worked as a social worker too, previously.. but my passion I realized, lies only with Public Health. In Social work, you help people as they come to you, as they require your help, but in Public Health, you are actually working towards, either teaching, or striving to solve a health issue and then teaching them about prevention! :) Think thats faaar more rewarding. Afterall, Health is Wealth, and to survive we humans must take care of our bodies and health! :)

Sorry about the LONNGG post! I'm just really passionate about this topic 😆
